RESUMO

Auricular prostheses for defects of external ear are retained either by mechanical means or implants. All implant retained prostheses are retained by various means such as bar and clip, magnetic attachments or a combination of bar, clip and magnets. The commonest problem encountered with the bar and clip system is loosening of the clip after 3-4 months. When magnets are used as retaining component they tend to corrode over a period of time. So various alternative retention methods which possess good retentive qualities, ease of reparability and patient friendly were tried. In the present case a newly modified Hader bar design which can act as an additional retentive feature apart from the clip is employed to increase retention. The major advantages in the modified Hader bar system were that only two implants were employed, the additional loops in the Hader bar prevented micro movements and the retentive acrylic locks were easy to repair if broken. The modified Hader bar has anti-rotational slots which prevents the sliding or rotation of the prosthesis which gave new confidence to the patient who was otherwise worried of inadvertent displacement of the ear prosthesis while playing.

RESUMO

Microstomia has been defined as an abnormally small oral orifice associated with various etiopathologic factors. Management of these patients poses extreme difficulties in every procedure during prosthesis fabrication. Restricted mouth opening of the patient makes the insertion and the removal of the tray extremely difficult. So sectioning of the existing stock tray is necessary, so that the trays can be inserted and removed in sections. The main problem encountered during this procedure is the reorientation of the tray back in position. This article presents an innovative technique for the easy handling of the sectioned stock impression trays.

RESUMO

Patients presenting with severe resorption of the residual alveolar ridges are relatively common today in both private practices and teaching institutions. The severely resorbed mandibular ridge is more challenging to impress than is the maxillary ridge. Accurately capturing the denture-bearing surface in its entirety is crucial to providing the patient with a functionally successful prosthesis. This article presents a technique to overcome the difficulties encountered in impressing the severely resorbed mandibular ridge using elastomeric impression materials and a modified special custom tray.

RESUMO

Hanau spring bow has been in use since 1986. Hanau spring bow is claimed to maintain self centering property when it is positioned in the patient as well as in the articulator. However there is no documented evidence to prove that feature. Mainly it was due to the absence of a testing device. Exclusively for the present study, the testing device consisting of a platform, stops and distance measuring system was designed by the third author. This study proved that Hanau has the capability of self centering.
