RESUMO
The coexistence of subacute pericardial effusion and epicardial constriction produces a clinical state, subacute effusive constrictive epicarditis, which resembles pericardial effusion with tamponade. However, pericardiocentesis results in only partial and temporary relief, a feature which is of importance in diagnosis. This syndrome was seen in five patients all of whom benefited from early pericardiectomy.

A 24-year-old female with haemoglobin E-thalassaemia who presented with paraparesis of 18 months' duration was found to have spinal extradural extramedullary haemopoietic tissue extending from T4 to T9. Complete neurological recovery followed laminectomy. The importance of prompt diagnosis and treatment, of this unusual complication of extramedullary haemopoiesis, before the spinal cord is irreversibly damaged is stressed.

The first published occurrence of the Laurence-Moon-Biedl Syndrome in a Singhalese family is reported. Three members of a family of six with first cousin non-affected parents are described along with studies to indicate that the hypogonadism in this family can be ascribed to hypogonadotrophism. The high incidence of congenital heart disease and genito-urinary abnormalities noted by other is confirmed.

Two cases of cervico-mediastinal lymphangioma ppesenting in adults are reported. In one the lesion originated in the mediastinum and only when advanced showed extension into the neck. The other was associated with a cervical cystic hygroma. Both wwer relieved by one-stage excision. Although they are benign, the tendency of these lesions is to become progressively larger, and to infiltrate between the vital structures in the neck and mediastinum. These features, and the importance of early surgery, are illustrated by the patients we now report.

Spontaneous haemothoraxis is a very rare presenting manifestation in haemophilia, only four previous cases being recorded in the English literature. The clinical features and management of such a case by intercostal tube drainage in a previously unrecognized haemophiliac are described.
