RESUMO

Sun-drying is a traditional process for preparing dried shrimp in coastal area of South China, but its impacts on nutrition and the formation of flavor-contributory substances in dried shrimp remain largely unknown. This study aimed to examine the effects of the production process on the microbiota and metabolites in dried shrimp. 16S rDNA amplicon sequencing was employed to identify 170 operational taxonomic units (OTUs), with Vibrio, Photobacterium, and Shewanella emerging as the primary pathogenic bacteria in shrimp samples. Lactococcus lactis was identified as the principal potential beneficial microorganism to accrue during the dried shrimp production process and found to contribute significantly to the development of desirable shrimp flavors. LC-MS-based analyses of dried shrimp sample metabolomes revealed a notable increase in compounds associated with unsaturated fatty acid biosynthesis, arachidonic acid metabolism, amino acid biosynthesis, and flavonoid and flavanol biosynthesis throughout the drying process. Subsequent exploration of the relationship between metabolites and bacterial communities highlighted the predominant coexistence of Bifidobacterium, Clostridium, and Photobacterium contributing heterocyclic compounds and metabolites of organic acids and their derivatives. Conversely, Arthrobacter and Staphylococcus were found to inhibit each other, primarily in the presence of heterocyclic compounds. This comprehensive investigation provides valuable insights into the dynamic changes in the microbiota and metabolites of dried shrimps spanning different drying periods, which we expect to contribute to enhancing production techniques and safety measures for dried shrimp processing.

RESUMO

Introduction: It is essential to protect cancer patients from contracting COVID-19 through vaccination. A majority of cancer patients are recommended by international health authorities to take up the vaccines. COVID-19 vaccine refusal among cancer patients during the pandemic period is under-researched. This study investigated factors of vaccine refusal based on the Health Belief Model (HBM). Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among female breast cancer patients, male/female thyroid cancer patients, and gynecological cancer patients in Shantou, China from April to August 2022 (n = 1,115). Multinomial logistic regression analysis adjusted for socio-demographics was conducted to test factors of COVID-19. Adjusted odds ratios of the two models comparing vaccine refusal vs. "vaccine non-refusal" and vaccine refusal vs. ever-vaccination were derived and presented. Results: Of all the participants, the prevalence of vaccine refusal, "vaccine non-refusal," and ever-vaccination was 25.9, 22.2, and 51.8%, respectively. In both multinomial logistic regression models, significant factors of vaccine refusal included socio-demographics (age, education level, employment status, monthly household income, cancer type, duration since cancer diagnosis, current treatment status) and some vaccine-related HBM (perceived benefits, perceived barriers, cue to action, and self-efficacy). Perceived severity of COVID-19 was significant only in the vaccine refusal vs. ever-vaccination model. In neither model, perceived susceptibility to contract COVID-19 was statistically significant. Conclusion: About » of the participants expressed vaccine refusal. Interventions are warranted. Future longitudinal studies are needed to verify this study's findings. Pilot interventions should also be launched to test effectiveness of interventions modifying the significant HBM factors found in this study.

RESUMO

A copper-catalyzed decarbonylative alkylation-cyanation of styrene derivatives with aliphatic aldehydes and trimethylsilyl cyanide to provide chain elongated nitriles is reported. Using TBHP as an oxidant and free radical initiator, the reaction can smoothly convert abundant α-di-substituted, α-mono-substituted and linear aliphatic aldehydes into the corresponding 3°, 2° and 1° alkyl radicals to initiate the subsequent radical-type difunctionalization of various styrenes.

RESUMO

Amomum maximum Roxb. rhizome is a fork medicine mainly used in South and Southeast Asia. In present study, the hypoglycaemic effects of the ethanolic extract of A. maximum rhizome were demonstrated both on α-glucosidase assay in vitro and streptozotocin (STZ)-induced postprandial hyperglycaemia in mice. Furthermore, six labdane diterpenes, amoxanthin A (1), ottensinin (2), coronarin D (3), coronarin D methyl ether (4), isocoronarin D (5), and zerumin (6), were isolated from its ethyl acetate sub-fraction with the guidance of α-glucosidase inhibitory activity. Among these compounds, 2 and 6 exhibited significant inhibitory effect on α-glucosidase, as well as on STZ-induced high postprandial blood glucose levels in mice. Additionally, molecular docking analysis revealed that 2 and 6 could firmly bind to the active sites of α-glucosidase. These results suggest that compounds 2 and 6 are the main anti-hyperglycaemic agents present in A. maximum, which may demonstrate potential beneficial effects in diabetes management.

RESUMO

Syndrome-trellis codes (STCs) are commonly used in image steganographic schemes, which aim at minimizing the embedding distortion, but most distortion models cannot capture the mutual interaction of embedding modifications (MIEMs). In this article, a secure halftone image steganographic scheme based on a feature space and layer embedding is proposed. First, a feature space is constructed by a characterization method that is designed based on the statistics of 4 ×4 pixel blocks in halftone images. Upon the feature space, a generalized steganalyzer with good classification ability is proposed, which is used to measure the embedding distortion. As a result, a distortion model based on a hybrid feature space is constructed, which outperforms some state-of-the-art models. Then, as the distortion model is established on the statistics of local regions, a layer embedding strategy is proposed to reduce MIEM. It divides the host image into multiple layers according to their relative positions in 4 ×4 blocks, and the embedding procedure is executed layer by layer. In each layer, any two pixels are located at different 4 ×4 blocks in the original image, and the distortion model makes sure that the calculation of pixel distortions is independent. Between layers, the pixel distortions of the current layer are updated according to the previous embedding modifications, thus reducing the total embedding distortion. Comparisons with prior schemes demonstrate that the proposed steganographic scheme achieves high statistical security when resisting the state-of-the-art steganalysis.

RESUMO

Biodegradable mulch films are supposed to be a prospective substitute for poly(ethylene)-based mulch films in the field of sustainable agriculture. Among them, weeding mulch films play significant roles. However, the large-scale production of weeding mulch films through the traditional high-temperature film blowing process would often cause serious pollution due to the diffusion of herbicides in the surroundings. Herein, a green and facile coating approach is developed to produce biodegradable weeding mulch films. In our strategy, a herbicide was added into a poly(vinyl alcohol) aqueous solution with dopamine in it. After the subsequent low-temperature coating procedure on a biodegradable poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate)/poly(lactic acid) film, effective weeding mulch films were obtained. The morphology, structure, and mechanical property test results revealed the robustness and stability of the coating, and the pot experiments clearly demonstrated the effective weed suppression ability of the obtained weeding films. Evidently, this strategy to produce biodegradable weeding mulch films is green and facile, exhibiting great prospects in the large-scale production of weeding mulch films and other functional biodegradable mulch films.

RESUMO

Carbon dots (CDs) with plenty of favorable properties have been extensively investigated in diverse areas including bioimaging, biomedicine, sensor, energy storage, anti-counterfeiting, photocatalysis, and optoelectronic devices. Herein, a simple, rapid, and green sonochemical-assisted method for fabricating nitrogen-doped CDs has been developed. In this approach, the nitrogen-doped CDs can be obtained through irradiation by intensive ultrasonic waves from ultrasonic probes in 30 min. The achieved CDs exhibit excellent water dispersibility, which can be ascribed to their high functionalization. Importantly, the CDs also demonstrate remarkable fluorescent properties, high photostability, and low cytotoxicity, which can be utilized for multicolor cellular imaging and anti-counterfeiting applications. As far as we know, the sonochemical-assisted method for rapidly synthesizing nitrogen-doped CDs from gelatin has never been reported before. Significantly, the sonochemical-assisted approach to rapidly fabricate CDs is versatile for the facile construction of fluorescent CDs, and the obtained CDs can be potentially used in various areas including bioimaging and anti-counterfeiting.

RESUMO

Lignification is especially prominent in postharvest pumelo fruit, which greatly impairs their attractiveness and commercial value. This study investigated the energy metabolism and lipid peroxidation and their relationship with accumulated lignin content in juice sacs of "Hongroumiyou" (HR) during 90 d of storage at 25 °C. The results indicated that, the alterations of energy metabolism in juice of sacs of postharvest pumelos was featured by a continuous decline in energy charge and ATP/ADP; an increase in succinic dehydrogenase (SDH) activity before 30 d and increases in activities of cytochrome c oxidase (CCO) and F0F1-ATPase before 60 d; but declines in activities of Ca2+-ATPase and H+-ATPase. Additionally, enhanced contents of H2O2, O2-, and -OH scavenging rate; increased malondialdehyde (MDA) content; and transformation of unsaturated fatty acids (USFA) to saturated fatty acids (USFA) and reduced USFA/SFA (U/S) could result in lipid peroxidation and membrane integrity loss. Moreover, correlation analysis showed that lignin accumulation was in close relation to energy metabolism and lipid peroxidation in juice sacs of postharvest pumelos. These results gave evident credence for the involvement of energy metabolism and lipid peroxidation in the lignin accumulation of HR pumelo fruit during postharvest storage.

RESUMO

Pulmonary fibrosis (PF) is a lung disease with highly heterogeneous and mortality rate, but its therapeutic options are now still limited. Corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has been characterized by WHO as a pandemic, and the global number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has been more than 8.0 million. It is strongly supported for that PF should be one of the major complications in COVID-19 patients by the evidences of epidemiology, viral immunology and current clinical researches. The anti-PF properties of naturally occurring polysaccharides have attracted increasing attention in last two decades, but is still lack of a comprehensively understanding. In present review, the resources, structural features, anti-PF activities, and underlying mechanisms of these polysaccharides are summarized and analyzed, which was expected to provide a scientific evidence supporting the application of polysaccharides for preventing or treating PF in COVID-19 patients.

RESUMO

Chilling injury is especially prominent in postharvest bananas stored at low temperature below 13 °C. To elucidate better the relationship between cell membrane lipids and chilling injury, an untargeted lipidomics approach using ultra-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry was conducted. Banana fruit were stored at 6 °C for 0 (control) and 4 days and then sampled for lipid analysis. After 4 days of storage, banana peel exhibited a marked chilling injury symptom. Furthermore, 45 lipid compounds, including glycerophospholipids, saccharolipids, and glycerolipids, were identified with significant changes in peel tissues of bananas stored for 4 days compared with the control fruit. In addition, higher ratio of digalactosyldiacylglycerol (DGDG) to monogalactosyldiacylglycerol (MGDG) and higher levels of phosphatidic acid (PA) and saturated fatty acids but lower levels of phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), and unsaturated fatty acids were observed in banana fruit with chilling injury in contrast to the control fruit. Meanwhile, higher activities of phospholipase D (PLD) and lipoxygenase (LOX) were associated with significantly upregulated gene expressions of MaPLD1 and MaLOX2 and higher malondialdehyde (MDA) content in chilling injury-related bananas. In conclusion, our study indicated that membrane lipid degradation resulted from reduced PC and PE, but accumulated PA, while membrane lipid peroxidation resulted from the elevated saturation of fatty acids, resulting in membrane damage which subsequently accelerated the chilling injury occurrence of banana fruit during storage at low temperature.

RESUMO

The development of efficient electrocatalysts for overall water splitting is important for future renewable energy systems. Herein, macroporous CoO covered by Co/N-doped graphitic carbon nanosheet arrays (mac-CoO@Co/NGC NSAs) were constructed by engineering a mesoporous CoO nanowire (mes-CoO NWAs) core with highly conductive Co nanoparticles coated by a N-doped graphitic carbon (Co/NGC) shell. The in situ derived Co/NGC shell not only introduces electrocatalytic active sites for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) but also promotes the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) through the strong interaction between the CoO core and the Co/NGC shell. Moreover, the highly conductive Co/NGC shell crosslinks the isolated mesoporous CoO nanowires into a nanosheet rich in macropores, ensuring effective electron and mass transfer. Furthermore, the chemically stable N-doped graphitic carbon layer and physically stable hierarchical nanosheet arrays ensure the stability of the catalyst. Owing to the desirable interfaces and pore architecture, the as-prepared mac-CoO@Co/NGC NSAs can serve as highly effective, binder-free electrocatalysts for overall water splitting with a stable cell voltage of 1.62 V at 10 mA cm-2 for 35 h.

RESUMO

Rare earth elements (REEs) are applied in various industries. They have entered the environment through different pathways and caused serious pollutions. So far, due to the lack of calculated toxicity coefficient of rare earth elements, it is still difficult to evaluate their ecological risks. The potential ecological risk index method is commonly used in the pollution assessment of heavy metals. And rare earth elements are similar to heavy metals. Herein, we used this method to calculate the toxicity coefficient of 15 rare earth elements (La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu, and Y). The calculation was based on two principles, rare earth elements coexist with each other because of their similar chemical properties, and the elemental abundance and release effect determine their toxicity. The results are as follows: La = 1, Ce = 1, Pr = 5, Nd = 2, Sm = 5, Eu = 10, Gd = 5, Tb = 10, Dy = 5, Ho = 10, Er = 5, Tm = 10, Yb = 5, Lu = 20, Y = 2. Our results can provide a reference to the potential ecological risk assessment of rare earth elements.

RESUMO

Pyridines containing adjacent C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C bonds were utilized as ligand units and integrated into the skeleton of conjugated microporous polymers. The resultant Pd-CMP-1 was first applied as a highly efficient heterogeneous catalytic system for Pd-catalyzed allene hydrosilylation towards a wide range of allenes to produce branched allylsilanes with high regioselectivity. The ligand units of the polymer, along with the confinement effect of the porous structure, jointly regulated the regioselectivity. The parts-per-million (ppm) levels of Pd, coordinated with the recyclable heterogeneous ligand, show promise for industrial applications. This work opens a new front of using CMP as an intriguing platform for developing highly efficient catalysts to control the regioselectivities in allene hydrosilylation.

RESUMO

The work presented herein focuses on simulating the compounding process via a torque rheometer, as well as the relationship between the melt viscosity and the polymer molecular weight (MW). We aim to predict the plasticization of polylactic acid (PLA) using polypropylene glycol (PPG) with different MWs. The rheological properties of the PLA/PPG composites containing PPG with different MWs were systematically studied by capillary rheometry and torque rheometry. The initial degradation of PLA/PPG composites during melt processing was monitored in real time. The results indicate that PPG can significantly reduce the melt viscosity of PLA/PPG composites, leading to obvious pseudoplastic fluid behavior. The lower the MW of PPG, the lower the viscosity of the PLA/PPG composite. The addition of PPG was favorable for the degradation of PLA during processing, and the degradation degree of the composite materials increased as the MW of PPG was decreased.

RESUMO

Lignification, which occurs in many horticultural fruit and vegetables, brings about undesirable texture and unfavorable consumer preference. However, this problem has rarely been studied. In this work, three pumelo cultivars cvs "Hongroumiyou" (HR), "Bairoumiyou" (BR), and "Huangroumiyou" (HuR) were stored at 25 °C for 90 days, and juice sacs were sampled to explore the lignin accumulation and its relationship to sucrose and energy depletion were investigated. The results displayed that HuR contained lower sucrose content, lower ATP level, but higher lignin content compared to BR and HR during postharvest storage, indicating that the sequence according to storage resistance on the basis of lignin content is as follows: HuR < BR < HR. Furthermore, sucrose degradation attributed to enhanced activities of neutral invertase (NI), soluble acid invertase (S-AI), cell wall-bound invertase (B-AI), and energy deficit on account of declined ATP level, showed significantly negative correlation with lignin accumulation, suggesting that lignin accumulation occurrence could induce sucrose degradation and energy deficit during postharvest storage. Additionally, higher activities of phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL), polyphenol oxidase (PPO), peroxidase (POD) could accelerate lignin synthesis and resulted in lignin accumulation during postharvest pumelo storage.

RESUMO

The juice sacs of pummelo fruit is susceptible to softening during storage at 25 °C, which causes quality deterioration and flavor loss during postharvest pummelo storage. This study investigated the changes in metabolisms of antioxidant and cell wall in juice sacs of three pummelo cultivars-Hongroumiyou (HR), Bairoumiyou (BR) and Huangroumiyou (HuR)-during postharvest storage. The results revealed that, with the extension of storage, the juice sacs of three pummelo cultivars exhibited a decrease in total antioxidant capacity (TAC), DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activity; a decline in total phenols (TP) content and an increase firstly then a decrease in total ascorbic acid (TAA) content; and a decrease in lipoxygenase (LOX) activity and a rise initially, but a decline in activities of ascorbate peroxidase (APX) and glutathione peroxidase (GPX). Additionally, increased water-soluble pectin (WSP), but declined propectin, ionic-soluble pectin (ISP) and chelator-soluble pectin (CSP); as well as an increase from 0 d to 60 d then followed by a decline in activities of pectinesterase (PE), polygalacturonase (PG) and pectate lyase (PL) were observed. These results suggested that the metabolisms of antioxidant and cell wall could result in softening and senescence of pummelo fruit.

RESUMO

storage Banana fruit after harvest is susceptible to chilling injury, which is featured by peel browning during cold, and it easily loses its nutrition and economic values. This study investigated the role of fibroin treatment in delaying peel browning in association with the antioxidant capability of postharvest banana fruit during cold storage. Compared to the control fruit, fibroin-treated fruit contained higher amounts of Pro and Cys during overall storage as well as higher glutathione (GSH) during the middle of storage. Conversely, fibroin-treated fruit exhibited a lower peel browning index and reactive oxygen species (ROS) level during overall storage as well as lower contents of hexadecanoic acid and octadecanoic acid by the end of storage compared to control fruit. In addition, fibroin-treated banana fruit showed higher activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) in relation to upregulation SOD, CAT, and GR as well as peroxiredoxins (MT3 and GRX) during the middle of storage. These results highlighted the role of fibroin treatment in reducing peel browning by enhancing the antioxidant capability of harvested banana fruit during cold storage.

RESUMO

Targeted delivery of nanotheranostics to tumor site plays critical roles in the diagnosis and treatment of cancers, therefore, fabrication of targeted nanotheranostics has attracted increasing interest these years. Especially, nutrient transporters exhibit great prospect in the targeted delivery of nanotheranostics. However, small albumin nanoparticles which could even demonstrate more outstanding targeting ability via albumin-binding protein pathways than those nanoparticles modified with targeting ligands, have not been reported before. Herein, a facile strategy to construct small albumin nanoparticles of about 30 nm in one pot for better targeted fluorescence imaging and photothermal therapy of U87 tumors through albumin-binding protein pathways is presented. Compared with BSA-PhENH2-PPy-cRGD NPs those with a larger size but less BSA molecules on the surface, more BSA-PhENH2-PPy NPs could target the tumor site of mice in vivo, and BSA-PhENH2-PPy NPs could also demonstrate more outstanding performance in the photothermal therapy of tumors than BSA-PhENH2-PPy-cRGD NPs. This work provides a facile approach to construct small albumin nanoparticles in one pot for targeted fluorescence imaging and photothermal therapy, which also clearly proved the huge prospect of albumin nanoparticles for targeted tumor therapy via albumin-binding protein pathways.

RESUMO

Searching for an economical and efficient water splitting electrocatalyst is still a huge challenge for hydrogen production. This work reports one-step synthesis of hierarchical porous prism arrays (HPPAs) composed of Ni-NiO nanoparticles embedding uniformly in graphite carbon (Ni-NiO/C HPPAs), which is derived from metal-organic framework (CPO-27-Ni) prism arrays grown on nickel foam (NF). Remarkable features of the prism arrays, synergistic effect of Ni-NiO/C, porous graphite carbon, high conductive NF, and good contact between catalyst and current collector result in excellent electrocatalytic performance of Ni-NiO/C HPPAs@NF. Ni-NiO/C HPPAs@NF shows a small overpotential of ∼49.48 mV at the current density of 10 mA cm-2, low Tafel slope of 74 mV dec-1 and robust stability for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in alkaline media. Especially, the overpotential for HER of Ni-NiO/C HPPAs@NF is only ∼132 mV at the current density of 185 mA cm-2, almost the same as the value from the Pt/C. Furthermore, for oxygen evolution reaction in basic media, Ni-NiO/C HPPAs@NF shows better catalytic activity, lower Tafel slope and higher durability than precious IrO2. The above finding offers an effective strategy to design the bifunctional electrocatalysts for overall water splitting.
