RESUMO

PURPOSE: Obesity is a significant risk factor for cardiovascular disease; however, the impact of weight loss on cardiovascular health (CVH) in individuals with specific obesity patterns remains incompletely understood. The objective of our study was to investigate the relationship weight loss percentage and CVH scores across individuals with various obesity patterns. METHODS: Our study utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey conducted between 2007 and 2018, involving a total of 12,835 participants aged 16 years or older, to conduct a cross-sectional analysis. Multiple linear regression and multinomial logistic regression methods were used to assess the correlation between the weight loss percentage and the CVH scores. Additionally, restricted cubic spline analysis was employed to examine the nonlinear relationship between the two variables. RESULTS: Compared to individuals with a weight loss percentage < 0%, participants with weight loss percentages of 0-5% and 5.1-10% showed improved CVH scores, with ß values of 2.85 (95% CI 2.32-3.38) and 2.55 (95% CI 1.69-3.4), respectively. Regarding different obesity patterns, compared to participants with a weight loss percentage < 0%, participants with a weight loss percentage of 0-5% showed an increase in CVH scores in the normal weight and overweight/general obesity (OGO) groups, with ß values of 1.45 (95% CI 0.7-2.19) and 1.22 (95% CI 0.46-1.97), respectively. Restricted cubic spline analysis revealed a significant inverted U-shaped relationship between the weight loss percentage and the CVH scores (with optimal CVH scores at 3%). CONCLUSIONS: There was an inverted U-shaped relationship between weight loss percentage and CVH scores, with moderate weight loss (0-10%, optimal value of 3%) being associated with improved CVH scores, especially among individuals with OGO. Background: Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARG) plays some roles in preventing liver disease progression to hepatocellular carcinoma. However, there is limited information about the function of PPARG of in hepatocellular carcinoma. This study aimed to determine the significance of PPARG in immunological response and as a biomarker for hepatocellular carcinoma survival. Methods: We investigated the expression, prognosis, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes/Gene Ontology biological process enrichment, and immune significance of PPARG using data from three databases-The Cancer Genome Atlas, International Cancer Genome Consortium, and Gene Expression Omnibus-through bioinformatics analysis as well as experimental verification in proliferation function of PPARG in HepG2 cell. Results: High PPARG expression in hepatocellular carcinoma tissues positively correlated with TP53 mutation, and predicted poor prognosis. The results of enrichment and immune infiltration showed that PPARG negatively correlated with the complement system and macrophage infiltration, and laboratory results support that PPARG regulate proliferation of HepG2 cell. Conclusions: PPARG is upregulated in hepatocellular carcinoma and it correlates with a worse prognosis. Moreover, PPARG may play an important role in the cell proliferation, complement system and immune cell infiltration in hepatocellular carcinoma.

BACKGROUND: The rat skin flap model has been widely used in experimental flap survival studies; however, most of these have been qualitative studies. The purpose of this study was to investigate the quantitative relationship between the diameter of a cutaneous artery and the area of skin that it supplies, and also to explore the factors that influence this relationship. METHODS: Thirty rats were injected with lead oxide and gelatin and then radiographed. Computer imaging of the diameter and the area of blood supply of the cutaneous artery were made to investigate the mathematical relationship between the arterial diameter and its perfusion area. Angiograms were assembled using Adobe Photoshop and analyzed with Scion Image and SPSS software. RESULTS: The blood vessels had an average diameter of 0.53 ± 0.12 mm, perimeter of 18.74 ± 4.84 cm, vascular density of 391.31 ± 76.58 gray value/pixel cm, vascular territory of 22.32 ± 10.04 cm(2) and supplying volume of 4.88 ± 3.02 cm(3). There was a positive correlation between the diameter and the perimeter of the vascular territory, and the area and volume of the vascular territory. The linear regression equation was y = 32.44x + 1.23 [y: nutrition region perimeter (cm), x: cutaneous artery diameter (mm)], y = 72.70x-15.93 [y: supplying area (cm(2)), x: cutaneous artery diameter (mm)] and y = 20.36x-5.83 [y: supplying volume (cm(3)), x: cutaneous artery diameter (mm)], respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Based on this data, it is postulated that the size of reliable skin flaps can be calculated by the diameter and the distribution patterns of the cutaneous artery. With the same diameter, the area of the flap supplied by branch-style artery is larger than the one supplied by the axial artery.

For the first time to our knowledge, in a high-energy laser facility with an output energy of 454.37 J, by using a temporal-space-transforming pulse-shaping system with our own design of a knife-edge apparatus, we obtained a quasi-square laser pulse.
