RESUMO

A network meta-analysis (NMA) including randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was conducted to evaluate the effects of different interventions on smoking cessation. Studies were collected from online databases including PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Eligible studies were further examined in the NMA to compare the effect of 14 interventions on smoking cessation. Thirty-four studies were examined in the NMA, including a total of 14 interventions and 28 733 participants. The results showed that health education (HE; odds ratio ([OR] = 200.29, 95% CI [1.62, 24 794.61])), other interventions (OI; OR = 29.79, 95% CI [1.07, 882.17]) and multimodal interventions (MUIs; OR = 100.16, 95% CI [2.06, 4867.24]) were better than self-help material (SHM). HE (OR = 243.31, 95% CI [1.39, 42531.33]), MUI (OR = 121.67, 95% CI [1.64, 9004.86]) and financial incentive (FI; OR = 14.09, 95% CI [1.21, 164.31]) had positive effects on smoking cessation rate than smoking cessation or quitting APP (QA). Ranking results showed that HE (83.6%) and motivation interviewing (MI; 69.6%) had better short-term effects on smoking cessation. HE and MUI provided more smoking cessation benefits than SHM and QA. FI was more effective at quitting smoking than QA. Also, HE and MI were more likely to be optimal smoking cessation interventions.

Purpose: To investigate the effects of various intervention approaches on cancer-related fatigue (CRF) in patients with breast cancer. Method: Computer searches were conducted on PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), China Science and Technology Journal Database (VIP), and Wanfang databases from their establishment to June 2023. Selection was made using inclusion and exclusion criteria, and 77 articles were included to compare the effects of 12 interventions on patients with breast cancer. Results: Seventy-seven studies with 12 various interventions were examined. The network findings indicated that cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) (SMD, -1.56; 95%CI, -3.08~-0.04), Chinese traditional exercises (CTE) (SMD, -0.85; 95%CI, -1.34~-0.36), aerobic exercise (AE) (SMD, -0.77; 95%CI, -1.09~-0.45), multimodal exercise (ME) (SMD, -0.75; 95%CI, -1.26~-0.25), music interventions (MI) (SMD, -0.74; 95%CI, -1.45~-0.03), and yoga (YG) (SMD, -0.44; 95%CI, -0.83 to -0.06) can reduce CRF more than the control group (CG). For relaxation exercises (RE) (MD, -6.69; 95%CI, -9.81~-3.57), MI (MD, -5.45; 95%CI, -7.98~-2.92), AE (MD, -4.34; 95%CI, -5.90~-2.78), ME (MD, -3.47; 95%CI, -4.95~-1.99), YG (MD, -2.07; 95%CI, -3.56~-0.57), and mindfulness training (MD, -1.68; 95%CI, -2.91~-0.46), PSQI improvement was superior to CG. In addition, for CTE (MD, 11.39; 95%CI, 4.11-18.66), YG (MD, 11.28; 95%CI, 1.63-20.93), and AE (MD, 9.34; 95%CI, 0.26~18.42), Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Breast improvement was superior to CG. Conclusion: Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is the most effective measure for alleviating CRF in patients with breast cancer and Relaxation exercises (RE) is the most effective measure for improving sleep quality. In addition, Chinese traditional exercises (CTE) is the best measure for enhancing quality of life. Additional randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are expected to further investigate the efficacy and mechanisms of these interventions. Postural hypotension abruptly lowers cerebral perfusion, producing unsteadiness which worsens with aging. This study addressed the hypothesis that maintenance of cerebral perfusion weakens in the elderly due to less effective cerebrovascular autoregulation and systemic cardiovascular responses to hypotension. In healthy elderly (n = 13, 68 ± 1 years) and young (n = 13, 26 ± 1 years) adults, systemic hypotension was induced by rapid deflation of bilateral thigh cuffs after 3-min suprasystolic occlusion, while heart rate (HR), mean arterial pressure (MAP), and blood flow velocity of the middle cerebral artery (VMCA) were recorded. VMCA/MAP indexed cerebrovascular conductance (CVC). Durations and rates of recovery of MAP and VMCA from their respective postdeflation nadirs were compared between the groups. Thigh-cuff deflation elicited similar hypotension and cerebral hypoperfusion in the elderly and young adults. However, the time elapsed (TΔ) from cuff deflation to the nadirs of MAP and VMCA, and the time for full recovery (TR) from nadirs to baselines were significantly prolonged in the elderly subjects. The response rates of HR (ΔHR, i.e. cardiac factor), MAP (ΔMAP, i.e. vasomotor factor), and CVC following cuff deflation were significantly slower in the elderly. Collectively, the response rates of the cardiac, vasomotor, and CVC factors largely explained TRVMCA. However, the TRVMCA/ΔMAP slope (-3.0 ± 0.9) was steeper (P = 0.046) than the TRVMCA/ΔHR slope (-1.1 ± 0.4). The TRVMCA/ΔCVC slope (-2.4 ± 0.6) was greater (P = 0.072) than the TRVMCA/ΔHR slope, but did not differ from the TRVMCA/ΔMAP slope (P = 0.52). Both cerebrovascular autoregulatory and systemic mechanisms contributed to cerebral perfusion recovery during systemic hypotension, and the vasomotor factor was predominant over the cardiac factor. Recovery from cerebral hypoperfusion was slower in the elderly adults because of the age-diminished rates of the CVC response and cardiovascular reflex regulation. Systemic vasoconstriction predominated over increased HR for restoring cerebral perfusion after abrupt onset of systemic hypotension.

Purpose: Chronic low back pain (CLBP) is an aging and public health issue that is a leading cause of disability worldwide and has a significant economic impact on a global scale. Treatments for CLBP are varied, and there is currently no study with high-quality evidence to show which treatment works best. Exercise therapy has the characteristics of minor harm, low cost, and convenient implementation. It has become a mainstream treatment method in clinics for chronic low back pain. However, there is insufficient evidence on which specific exercise regimen is more effective for chronic non-specific low back pain. This network meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effects of different exercise therapies on chronic low back pain and provide a reference for exercise regimens in CLBP patients. Methods: We searched PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science from inception to 10 May 2022. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were used for selection. We collected information from studies to compare the effects of 20 exercise interventions on patients with chronic low back pain. Results: This study included 75 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with 5,254 participants. Network meta-analysis results showed that tai chi [standardized mean difference (SMD), -2.11; 95% CI, -3.62 to -0.61], yoga (SMD, -1.76; 95% CI -2.72 to -0.81), Pilates exercise (SMD, -1.52; 95% CI, -2.68, to -0.36), and sling exercise (SMD, -1.19; 95% CI, -2.07 to -0.30) showed a better pain improvement than conventional rehabilitation. Tai chi (SMD, -2.42; 95% CI, -3.81 to -1.03) and yoga (SMD, -2.07; 95% CI, -2.80 to -1.34) showed a better pain improvement than no intervention provided. Yoga (SMD, -1.72; 95% CI, -2.91 to -0.53) and core or stabilization exercises (SMD, -1.04; 95% CI, -1.80 to -0.28) showed a better physical function improvement than conventional rehabilitation. Yoga (SMD, -1.81; 95% CI, -2.78 to -0.83) and core or stabilization exercises (SMD, -1.13; 95% CI, -1.66 to -0.59) showed a better physical function improvement than no intervention provided. Conclusion: Compared with conventional rehabilitation and no intervention provided, tai chi, toga, Pilates exercise, sling exercise, motor control exercise, and core or stabilization exercises significantly improved CLBP in patients. Compared with conventional rehabilitation and no intervention provided, yoga and core or stabilization exercises were statistically significant in improving physical function in patients with CLBP. Due to the limitations of the quality and quantity of the included studies, it is difficult to make a definitive recommendation before more large-scale and high-quality RCTs are conducted.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of exercise on bone mineral content(BMC) in children and adolescents at different growth stages. METHODS: EMBASE, PubMed, Web of Science, CNKI, VIP database and Wanfang database were searched. The randomized controlled trials(RCTS) published in Chinese and English on the effects of exercise on BMC in children and adolescents were collected using exercise, children, adolescents and BMC as search terms. Cochrane collaboration tool was used to evaluate the quality of the included studies, and RevMan5.4 software was used for Meta-analysis. The search time limit is from the establishment of the database to July 20, 2022. RESULTS: A total of 18 articles(22 RCTS) involving 1305 children and adolescents were included. The result of the Meta-analysis showed that: Compared with the control group, (1) exercise significantly improved spinal BMC(SMD=0.28, 95%CI 0.17-0.40, P<0.01) and femoral neck BMC(SMD=0.40, 95%CI 0.20-0.61, P<0.01), but not for systemic BMC(SMD=0.08, 95%CI-0.04-0.21, P=0.19). (2) Subgroup analysis showed that exercise significantly improved spinal BMC in the following stages: prepubertal(SMD=0.48, 95%CI 0.27-0.69, P<0.01)and early pubertal(SMD=0.22, 95%CI 0.05-0.39, P=0.01). The stages in which exercise significantly improved femoral neck BMC were as follows: prepubertal(SMD=0.60, 95%CI 0.05-1.16, P=0.03), early pubertal(SMD=0.22, 95%CI 0.01-0.43, P=0.04), middle and late pubertal(SMD=0.43, 95%CI 0.13-0.72, P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Exercise significantly enhanced spinal BMC during preadolescence and early adolescence as well as femoral neck BMC throughout childhood and adolescence, especially with higher effect sizes during preadolescence.

C1q/tumor necrosis factor-related protein-6 (CTRP6) is a multifunctional protein that plays a pivotal role in diverse physiological and pathological processes. To date, whether CTRP6 has a role in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury remains unexplored. This work aimed to investigate the potential role and mechanism of CTRP6 in myocardial I/R injury through in vitro and in vivo experiments. CTRP6 expression was downregulated in hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R)-treated cardiomyocytes. The apoptosis, oxidative stress, and inflammation in the H/R-treated cardiomyocytes were markedly alleviated by CTRP6 overexpression or exacerbated by CTRP6 silencing. Notably, the overexpression of CTRP6 remarkably ameliorated the myocardial injury, infarction area, cardiac apoptosis, oxidative stress, and inflammation in mice with myocardial I/R injury in vivo. Further investigation revealed that CTRP6 overexpression enhanced the activation of Nrf2 in the H/R-treated cardiomyocytes and the myocardium tissue of mice with myocardial I/R injury. CTRP6 overexpression increased the phosphorylated level of Akt and GSK-3ß, and the inhibition of Akt abolished CTRP6-overexpression-elicited Nrf2 activation in the H/R-treated cardiomyocytes. Additionally, the inhibition of Akt or Nrf2 abolished the protective effects of CTRP6 overexpression on the H/R-treated cardiomyocytes. Altogether, CTRP6 had protective effects on myocardial I/R injury via the effects on the Akt-GSK-3ß-Nrf2 signaling cascade. Our work recommends CTRP6 as a novel cardioprotective target for the treatment of myocardial I/R injury.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effect of exercise intervention, and analyze exercise intervention strategies for adolescent depression through a meta-analysis of RCTs. Methods: Accordance to PRISMA guidelines, PubMed, Medline, EBSCO, Web of Science, SPORTDiscus, PsycINFO, ProQuest, and CNKI were searched for eligible records. Peer-reviewed studies were included if they met the following criteria: population (mean age of 10-18 years), intervention (physical activity, sport, or exercise), and outcomes (depression, adherence, ITT, dropout, adverse events, follow-up report). The protocol of this systematic review was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42022321683). Effect sizes calculations and methodological quality of exercise intervention (TESTEX scale) were carried out. The certainty of evidence was assessed by GRADE framework. Results: Thirteen randomized controlled trials were eligible for this review, which comprised a total of 433 adolescents. Compared with the control treatment, the effect of exercise on adolescent depression was moderate (SMD = -0.65, 95%CI: -1.03 to -0.27, p < 0.01). Heterogeneity was substantial (T 2 = 0.30, I 2 = 67%, p < 0.01). The moderating effect analysis showed that exercise intervention characteristics (organization form, exercise frequency, exercise intensity, exercise type, and single exercise session duration) of included studies varied greatly revealing multiple factors that may impact the antidepressant effect of exercise on adolescent depression (I 2 > 50%, p < 0.05). Three studies show that the positive effect of exercise on reducing depression in adolescents remained 40 weeks after the intervention. Moreover, owing to the included studies contained methodological limitations, the certainty of evidence was reduced to moderate level. Conclusion: This study shows that exercise intervention has a moderate and sustained positive effect on adolescent depression. Our results recommended that adolescents with depression undertake moderate to high intensity group mixed exercise for more than 12 weeks, 20 to 60 min/time, more than 3 times/week. Additionally, our study also shows that the antidepressant effects remained for a long time after the end of exercise interventions. However, following the GRADE framework, we rated the certainty of evidence the primary meta-analysis as moderate evidence due to some limitations of included studies. Therefore, rigorous studies are still needed to verify the results. In mouse models of Alzheimer's disease (AD), normobaric intermittent hypoxia training (IHT) can preserve neurobehavioral function when applied before deficits develop, but IHT's effectiveness after onset of amyloid-ß (Aß) accumulation is unclear. This study tested the hypothesis that IHT improves learning-memory behavior, diminishes Aß accumulation in cerebral cortex and hippocampus, and enhances cerebrocortical contents of the neuroprotective trophic factors erythropoietin and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in mice manifesting AD traits. Twelve-month-old female 3xTg-AD mice were assigned to untreated 3xTg-AD (n = 6), AD+IHT (n = 6), and AD+sham-IHT (n = 6) groups; 8 untreated wild-type (WT) mice also were studied. AD+IHT mice alternately breathed 10% O2 for 6 min and room air for 4 min, 10 cycles/day for 21 days; AD+sham-IHT mice breathed room air. Spatial learning-memory was assessed by Morris water maze. Cerebrocortical and hippocampal Aß40 and Aß42 contents were determined by ELISA, and cerebrocortical erythropoietin and BDNF were analyzed by immunoblotting and ELISA. The significance of time (12 vs. 12 months + 21 days) and treatment (IHT vs. sham-IHT) was evaluated by two-factor ANOVA. The change in swimming distance to find the water maze platform after 21 d IHT (-1.6 ± 1.8 m) differed from that after sham-IHT (+5.8 ± 2.6 m). Cerebrocortical and hippocampal Aß42 contents were greater in 3xTg-AD than WT mice, but neither time nor treatment significantly affected Aß40 or Aß42 contents in the 3xTg-AD mice. Cerebrocortical erythropoietin and BDNF contents increased appreciably after IHT as compared to untreated 3xTg-AD and AD+sham-IHT mice. In conclusion, moderate, normobaric IHT prevented spatial learning-memory decline and restored cerebrocortical erythropoietin and BDNF contents despite ongoing Aß accumulation in 3xTg-AD mice.

BACKGROUND: The impact of aging on cerebrovascular function and tissue oxygenation during graded hypoxemia is incompletely known. This study compared the age effect on these variables during cyclic hypoxemia-reoxygenation. METHODS: Hypoxia-induced changes in arterial (SaO2) and cerebral tissue (ScO2) O2 saturation, middle cerebral arterial flow velocity (VMCA), estimated cerebral vascular conductance (CVC), heart rate (HR) and ventilation were compared between 12 elderly (71 ± 2 yr, 7 women) and 13 young (24 ± 3 yr, 5 women) adults during the first and fifth 5-min exposures to 10% O2. RESULTS: Although pre-hypoxia SaO2 did not differ between the groups, ScO2 was lower (P < 0.05) in the elderly (68.4 ± 1.2%) than young (73.8 ± 0.9%) adults, commensurate with a lower resting VMCA (P < 0.05). SaO2 fell less sharply (P < 0.05) in the elderly subjects during the first and fifth hypoxia exposures. Moreover, the responses of ScO2, VMCA, CVC, HR and breathing frequency to hypoxia were attenuated in the elderly subjects. Systolic and diastolic arterial pressures fell by 2-6 mmHg during hypoxia in both young and elderly. Thus, hypoxemia developed more gradually in elderly than young adults during normobaric hypoxia, concordant with a reduced metabolic demand in the elderly. CONCLUSIONS: The elderly adults safely tolerated cyclic, moderate hypoxemia which lowered SaO2 by 20-25%, despite dampening of cerebrovascular and cardiac responses to hypoxemia.

This study investigated the effects of ramie (0, 3, 6, 9, or 12%) included in finishing diets on carcass traits and meat quality of Xiangcun black pigs. Results showed that ramie decreased (linear, P < .05) backfat depth while it increased (linear, P < .05) loin-eye area. A quadratic effect of shear force in longissimus thoracis (LT) was observed, and the lowest value was noted in the 6% ramie group. Protein content in LT was linearly increased by ramie (linear, P < .01). Meanwhile, dietary ramie linearly decreased lipogenic genes mRNA levels and fiber cross-sectional area, but it linearly increased total fiber number of LT. These results suggest that ramie included in the diet <9% is an effective feed crop to partly improve carcass trait and muscle chemical composition without negatively affecting growth performance, and the underlying mechanism may be due to the changed lipogenic potential and myofiber characteristics induced by ramie.

Objective: The purpose of this review was to objectively evaluate the effects of Baduanjin exercise on rehabilitative outcomes in stroke patients. Methods: Both Chinese and English electronic databases were searched for potentially relevant trials. Two review authors independently screened eligible trials against the inclusion criteria, extracted data, and assessed the methodological quality by using the revised PEDro scale. Meta-analysis was only performed for balance function. Results: In total, there were eight randomized controlled trials selected in this systematic review. The aggregated result of four trials has shown a significant benefit in favor of Baduanjin on balance function (Hedges' g = 2.39, 95% CI 2.14 to 2.65, p < 0.001, I² = 61.54). Additionally, Baduanjin exercise effectively improved sensorimotor function of lower extremities and ability of daily activities as well as reduced depressive level, leading to improved quality of life. Conclusion: Baduanjin exercise as an adjunctive and safe method may be conducive to help stroke patients achieve the best possible short-term outcome and should be integrated with mainstream rehabilitation programs. More rigorous randomized controlled trials with long-term intervention periods among a large sample size of stroke patients are needed to draw a firm conclusion regarding the rehabilitative effects for this population.

Leucine (Leu) and its metabolites α-ketoisocaproate (KIC) and ß-hydroxy-ß-methyl butyrate (HMB) are potent regulators of protein turnover. The aim of this study was to compare the inhibitory effects of Leu, KIC, and HMB on protein degradation and to investigate the mechanisms involved. The results showed that the inhibitory effect of HMB (0.38 ± 0.04) was more potent than that of Leu (0.76 ± 0.04) and KIC (0.56 ± 0.04, P < 0.01), and was significantly abolished in the presence of LY294002 (1.48 ± 0.02) and rapamycin (1.96 ± 0.02, P < 0.01). In the presence of insulin, the inhibitory effect of HMB (0.34 ± 0.03) was still more effective than that of Leu (0.60 ± 0.04) and KIC (0.57 ± 0.08, P < 0.05). Interestingly, LY294002 treatment markedly attenuated the effect of HMB, while rapamycin treatment failed to exert the same effect. Thus, HMB appears to be more potent than Leu and KIC in inhibiting protein degradation in the absence or presence of insulin, and this inhibitory effect may be dependent on PI3K/Akt signaling pathway regardless of insulin, and mTOR signaling was only involved in this effect of HMB in the absence of insulin.

AIM: Baduanjin, a Chinese traditional Qigong exercise that focuses on a mind-body integration, is considered to be an effective exercise in promoting health. Thus, we systematically and critically evaluated the emerging literature relating to the effects of Baduanjin on health outcomes. METHODS: We used seven English-language electronic databases for the literature search. At least one health-related parameter was reported in retrievable full-text Baduanjin intervention studies. RESULTS: A total of 22 eligible studies were included. The inter-rater reliability between two review authors was 94.4% for selecting eligible studies. The results of individual studies support the notion that Baduanjin may be effective as an adjunctive rehabilitation method for improving cognitive functions in addition to psychological and physiological parameters among different age groups and various clinical populations (e.g., Parkinson's disease, chronic neck pain, chronic fatigue syndrome-like illness, psychological illness). CONCLUSION: Before we draw a definitive conclusion relating to Baduanjin for health benefits, more methodologically rigorous studies with a long-term follow-up assessment should be further conducted to examine the effects of Baduanjin on health-related parameters and disease-specific measures in different health conditions. This review lends insight for future studies on Baduanjin and its potential application in preventive medicine and rehabilitation science.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of practicing Taichi on attenuating bone mineral density (BMD) loss. Methods: Both electronic and manual searches were performed for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) examining Taichi for bone health. Two review authors independently performed study selection and data extraction according to inclusion criteria. A third party (Lin Luo) emerged to discuss with the two review authors and resolve a disagreement. Results: Twenty RCTs were found to meet the inclusion criteria and used for meta-analysis with a total effective sample of 1604. The aggregated results from this systematic review have shown significant benefits in favour of Taichi on BMD at lumbar spine (Standard Mean Difference, SMD) = 0.29; 95% CI 0.15 to 0.43; p < 0.0001), femur neck (SMD = 0.56; 95% CI 0.38 to 0.75; p < 0.00001), femur trochanter (SMD = 0.04; 95% CI 0.01 to 0.07; p = 0.007), total hip BMD (SMD = 0.46; 95% CI 0.16 to 0.76; p = 0.003). Conclusions: The aggregated results from this systematic review suggests that Taichi is effective on attenuating BMD loss at the regions of lumbar spine and proximal femur neck in special populations (e.g., older adults, perimenopausal and postmenopausal women, people with osteoarthritis, and cancer survivors). Researchers should further examine the effect of Taichi on the proximal femur trochanter and total hip so that a more definitive claim can be made regarding the beneficial effects for attenuating BMD loss in these musculoskeletal regions.

A 60-days feeding trial was conducted to determine the effect of dietary supplementation of Lonicera macranthoides leaf (LML) on growth performance, meat quality, and free amino acid profiles in growing-finishing pigs. L. macranthoides leaves were harvested, air-dried and milled to powder. A total of 288 crossbred barrows (Large White × Landrace) with an average initial BW of 54.0 ± 3.4 kg were randomly allocated to 3 treatment groups and fed either a basal diet or a diet supplemented with 0.5% or 1.0% LML powder. Results showed that diet supplemented with LML powder did not affect average daily feed intake (ADFI) and feed: gain ratio (P > 0.05) in growing-finishing pigs. Moreover, diet supplemented with LML powder showed no significant effects on carcass traits (P > 0.05) including dressing percentage, backfat thickness and loin muscle area, and meat quality traits (P > 0.05) including meat color, intramuscular fat and cooking loss. However, diet supplemented with LML powder significantly improved free amino acid profiles in serum and longissimus thoracis muscle in growing-finishing pigs. Most importantly, dietary LML powder increased total free amino acids content (P < 0.001) and essential free amino acid content (P < 0.001) in longissimus thoracis muscle. These results indicate that LML has the potential to improve the nutritional value of meat through improving free amino acid profiles.

Correlation analysis is popular in erosion- or earth-related studies, however, few studies compare correlations on a basis of statistical testing, which should be conducted to determine the statistical significance of the observed sample difference. This study aims to statistically determine the erosivity index of single storms, which requires comparison of a large number of dependent correlations between rainfall-runoff factors and soil loss, in the Chinese Loess Plateau. Data observed at four gauging stations and five runoff experimental plots were presented. Based on the Meng's tests, which is widely used for comparing correlations between a dependent variable and a set of independent variables, two methods were proposed. The first method removes factors that are poorly correlated with soil loss from consideration in a stepwise way, while the second method performs pairwise comparisons that are adjusted using the Bonferroni correction. Among 12 rainfall factors, I30 (the maximum 30-minute rainfall intensity) has been suggested for use as the rainfall erosivity index, although I30 is equally correlated with soil loss as factors of I20, EI10 (the product of the rainfall kinetic energy, E, and I10), EI20 and EI30 are. Runoff depth (total runoff volume normalized to drainage area) is more correlated with soil loss than all other examined rainfall-runoff factors, including I30, peak discharge and many combined factors. Moreover, sediment concentrations of major sediment-producing events are independent of all examined rainfall-runoff factors. As a result, introducing additional factors adds little to the prediction accuracy of the single factor of runoff depth. Hence, runoff depth should be the best erosivity index at scales from plots to watersheds. Our findings can facilitate predictions of soil erosion in the Loess Plateau. Our methods provide a valuable tool while determining the predictor among a number of variables in terms of correlations.
