RESUMO

The recombinant strain of Methylobacillus flagellatum with the cloned synthesis gene Cry 4B of the toxic Bac. thuringiensis var. israelensis protein proved to be effective against larvae of the Anopheles stephensi, An. atroparvus, An. pulcherrimus, An. superpictus, and An. sacharovi cultured in the laboratory. The use of M. flagellatum in combination with T. pyriformis may greatly expand the scope of use of the recombinant strain to control malaria mosquito larvae. Their combined use shows a 6-fold increase in the rate of strain action and a 4-fold decrease in the concentration of the agent. The optimum effects are shown following 24-hour combined intubation of M. flagellatum and Tetrahymena pyriformis.

RESUMO

The attempt to overcome the natural resistance of white rats Wistar to Leishmania infantum infection was made by the mean of the immunodepressant Tricort-40, the corticosteroid of prolonged activity. In the series of experiments with the mercy scheme of immunosuppression the inoculation of the amastigotes L. infantum taken out of the donors, the golden hamsters Mesocricetus auratus, caused the progressive infection with intensive affection on target organs (the spleen, liver, bone marrow). The stem of L. infantum been passed through the immunosuppressed rats has preserved its pathogenicity to the golden hamsters.

RESUMO

The main purpose of the present study is the investigation of relationships of Pneumocystis carinii with the organism of white rat Wistar, which is natural carrier of this parasite. The series of experiments has shown that the immunosuppressor Tricort-40 (corticosteroid of prolonged activity) in a short time reactivates the Pneumocystis infection. The parasites have been observed in a great number in the lungs and rarely in the liver. The reactivation and dissemination of the Pneumocystis infection have been achieved constantly and with great expression by the combined immunosuppression of rats, by the medicamentous immunosuppression (injection of T-40) and biological one (infection with amastigotes Leishmania infantum). The developing mixed-infection (with pneumocysts and leishmania) could be the basis for the parasitocenological relationships.

RESUMO

The corticosteroid tricort-40 (triamcinolone acetonide) was found to induce the reactivation of endogenous pneumocystic injection caused by P. carinii in Wistar rats given 5-9 infections subcutaneously in median doses of 0.5-4.0 mg/kg at 6-22 days intervals each. Manifest P. carinii infection in the animals was characterized by early detection of its agent (starting from week 2 of immunosuppression), a progression of the infection and its transition to the generalized stage. The combined use of tricort-40 and infection of the animals with Leishmania infantum as an immunosuppressive cofactor ensured an increase in reproducibility of a manifest pneumocystosis model and its more rapid transition to the generalized stage. The experimental model of mixed infection of two AIDS-associated parasite infections--generalized pneumocystosis and visceral leishmaniasis--was first reproduced in inbred rats, which may be suitable for simultaneous screening of new antipneumocystic and antileishmanial drugs.

RESUMO

The use of Fölgen-like electron microscopy reaction has revealed particles in the cytoplasm and nucleus of the dysentery amoeba trophozoites which in their size and resistance to acidic hydrolysis and in their affinity for uranilacetate are similar to tightly packed elements of the bacterial genome. On this basis a conclusion was drawn that some fragments of genomes of phagocytic bacteria can be preserved in the amoebal cell. The community of microorganisms consisting of trophozoites of the dysentery amoeba and bacteria of the intestinal flora is supposed to be a suitable model for studying the possibility of penetration of transgenetic elements from procaryote to eucaryote.

RESUMO

Electron microscope studies of spherical intranuclear inclusions (II) of Entamoeba histolytica trophozoites of two strains, which were maintained in polyxenous culture for different periods of time, were carried out. Data on the number of II in different individuals and in different strains are given. The structure of II whose external layer consists of electron dense material and resembles morphologically peripheral chromatin of the ameba's nucleus, an analogy of nucleolus chromatin of cells of other eucariots, is considered. Inside this layer some II have annular filaments about 9 nm thick rolled up spherically around the central zone of II. Comparison of results obtained and literary data suggests that the dynamic structure of II in question reflects a number of biosynthetic processes on the basis of annular extrachromosomal DNA of exogenic origin.

RESUMO

Synaptic junctions in the rabbit amygdala were studied by electron microscopy. A definite distribution of morphologically different synapses on the neuronal surface was noticed. This distribution changed 3 days after ipsilateral lobectomy. A suggestion is made on transformation of a certain morphological form of synaptic contact into another one during the changed function.
