A bilateral case of a long flexor accessorius muscle of the foot

Anomalies of the calf muscles are rare. One suchanomalous muscle, known as the flexor accessoriuslongus muscle (also named accessorius adaccessorium, accessorius secondus, accessoryflexor digitorum longus or pronator pedis) is ofmorphological significance. When present, thisoriginates in the deep fascia those of either thetibia or fibula and inserts into the foot either intothe flexor digitorum accessorius or into the tendonsof the flexor digitorum longus.
