Infection Anxiety and Coping Strategies Among Individuals With Schizophrenia During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Mediating Effects of Protection Motivation.

The current study determined the mediating effects of protection motivation factors (PMFs) on the relationship between infection anxiety and coping strategies among individuals with schizophrenia during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Data were collected using a questionnaire administered to 139 individuals with schizophrenia between September and October 2021. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analyses based on the Baron and Kenny criteria. Problem-based coping (PBC) was positively correlated with perceived vulnerability (r = 0.385, p < 0.001) and self-efficacy (r = 0.321, p < 0.001) among the PMFs and with infection anxiety (r = 0.517, p < 0.001); perceived self-efficacy (ß = 0.23 p = 0.002) had a partial mediating effect (Z = 1.99, p = 0.047) on the relationship between infection anxiety and PBC, confirming the importance of perceived self-efficacy among individuals with schizophrenia in developing positive coping strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, developing measures that promote perceived self-efficacy and build accurate situational awareness are essential to strengthen such patients' coping strategies during a pandemic. Transformation from Marginalization to Society's Agent: A Narrative Inquiry on Experiences of Art Activity among People with Mental Illness.

Using in-depth interviews, this study identified the experiences of five people with mental illness who participated in art activities. Findings indicated that the life journey that led to the participants' art activities and the impact of these activities in their lives were different and unique. The voices of the individuals with mental illness who participated in this study provided deeper understanding of how art activities have changed their lives. In addition, it was confirmed that art activities in which people with mental illness participate, bring positive inner changes and have the potential to improve their interpersonal relationships and social interactions.

"Entry to the Society from the Schizophrenic Cave"- A Qualitative Meta-Synthesis of Job Experiences for People with Schizophrenia.

Reviews of employment among people with schizophrenia have primarily encompassed quantitative research. This study analyzes eight qualitative research studies published from 2000 to 2018 on the job experiences of people with schizophrenia to identify participants' job motivations, negative and positive experiences working with schizophrenia, and adaptations to gain social roles and values. We found that the core theme encompassing participants' experiences was the need for social support to facilitate reentry into society from the schizophrenic cave. These results could inform the development of targeted nursing interventions to provide social support and foster job adaptation for people with schizophrenia.
