RESUMO

BACKGROUND: To prevent the infection from spreading, patients who were dying from COVID-19 were treated in isolation with restricted family access, which differed from existing end-of-life care procedures. This was a significant change that affected the care provided by nurses. OBJECTIVES: This study explored nurses' end-of-life care experiences in a limited family visitation setting during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: A descriptive qualitative study was conducted. Data were collected through individual, in-depth, semistructured interviews with ten critical care nurses who provided end-of-life care to patients with COVID-19 in South Korea. The data were analysed using thematic analysis. The Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research checklist was used to assess the study's rigour. FINDINGS: Three themes were identified: 'Witnessing patients' and families' heartbreak over separation', 'The gaps between the ideals and realities of end-of-life care', and 'Efforts to provide patients with a comfortable final journey'. Nurses realise the importance of their central role in supporting interactions between patients and families during end-of-life care. CONCLUSIONS: Family participation, facilitated by nurses' interest and efforts as mediators connecting patients and families, is essential for achieving high-quality care for inpatients facing end of life. This study is significant as it emphasises that the direction of end-of-life care should be family centric, even in a pandemic situation with limited family participation. To improve interaction between patients and families, creating an environment based on family participation that builds trust and strengthens communication is essential. Additionally, hospital support, such as professional education and counselling, should be provided to strengthen nurses' end-of-life care competency.

RESUMO

Dysregulation of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is one of the most common mechanisms associated with the pathogenesis of various cancers. Mitogen-inducible gene 6 [MIG6; also known as ERBB receptor feedback inhibitor 1 (ERRFI1)], identified as a feedback inhibitor of EGFR, negatively regulates EGFR by directly inhibiting its kinase activity and facilitating its internalization, subsequently leading to degradation. Despite its proposed role as an EGFR-dependent tumor suppressor, the functional consequences and clinical relevance in cancer etiology remain incompletely understood. Here, we identify that the stoichiometric balance between MIG6 and EGFR is crucial in promoting EGFR-dependent oncogenic growth in various experimental model systems. In addition, a subset of ERRFI1 (the official gene symbol of MIG6) mutations exhibit impaired ability to suppress the enzymatic activation of EGFR at multiple levels. In summary, our data suggest that decreased or loss of MIG6 activity can lead to abnormal activation of EGFR, potentially contributing to cellular transformation. We propose that the mutation status of ERRFI1 and the expression levels of MIG6 can serve as additional biomarkers for guiding EGFR-targeted cancer therapies, including glioblastoma.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The frequency of small bowel (SB) injuries has increased due to the increased use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or aspirin. This study was a systematic review and meta-analysis to compare drugs effective for SB injuries caused by NSAIDs or aspirin use. METHODS: We searched MEDLINE, Embase, and Cochrane registries for randomized controlled trials through February 2023. The extracted data included changes in the number of erosions or ulcers in the jejunum or ileum observed through capsule endoscopy in patients taking NSAIDs or aspirin and administration of various mucoprotectants. We investigated the therapeutic or preventive efficacy of these drugs. The methodological bias was evaluated using Risk of Bias 2.0. RESULTS: Eighteen randomized controlled trials of drugs effective for NSAIDs or aspirin-induced SB injuries were included and analyzed. The agents used to treat or prevent SB injuries were rebamipide, misoprostol, geranylgeranylacetone, and probiotics. In the meta-analysis, the mucoprotectants that showed a significant effect in treating NSAID users, who developed SB injuries, were misoprostol (mean difference: -9.88; 95% CI: -13.26 to -6.50). Meanwhile, the mucoprotectant that can prevent SB injuries caused by NSAIDs or aspirin in the general population was rebamipide (mean difference: -1.85; 95% CI: -2.74 to -0.96). CONCLUSIONS: Misoprostol was effective in treating SB injuries caused by NSAIDs or aspirin (CRD42023410946).

RESUMO

ABSTRACTThe Ministry of Environment of Korea has proposed a ban on landfill disposal of municipal solid waste (MSW) from 2026. Thus, it is inferred that the amount of incineration ash will increase drastically. Against this backdrop, this study assessed the applicability of a plasma melting process to fly ash. Fly ash was collected from 14 incineration facilities to analyze its basic properties and perform melting experiments. Furthermore, scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis and economic feasibility assessment were conducted. The molten fly ash slag exhibited a pH value of 9.9, and the ignition loss of fly ash was found to range from 14.5 to 25.7 wt.%. None of seven toxic elements (arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), cyanide (CN), mercury (Hg), hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)), copper, and lead (Pb)) was detected from the molten slag. In addition, 99.3 wt.% of chloride ion (Cl-), 97.9 wt.% of fluoride ion (F-), and 98.1 wt.% of sulphate ion (SO42-) were removed. The contents in the molten slag were found to be 0.19, 7.8, 27.8, 33.1, and 38 mg/kg for Cd, Pb, zinc, nickel, and F, respectively, and none of CN, Hg, and As was detected, thereby meeting the criteria for soil pollution. All of the environmental standards were met, and SEM analysis confirmed stable quality with high density and no surface pore. In the economic feasibility assessment, a profit of approximately 152.4 $/ton was also estimated compared to landfill disposal.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Although the importance of health promotion for nurses is increasing, there is a lack of meta-analyses targeting nurses in the world. This study aimed to identify the effect sizes between the health-promoting behaviors and related variables of nurses working in Korea. METHODS: Systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted according to the PRISMA and MOOSE guidelines. The literature included in this meta-analysis was published between 1994 and 2022 in core databases such as KMbase, KISS, KoreaMed, ScienceON, DBpia, NAL, RISS, CINAHL, CENTRAL, WoS, PubMed, and hand searched. In this study, the PICO-SD framework was applied with Participants being nurses actively working in various healthcare settings across Korea, and for a more comprehensive search, intervention and comparisons were not set. The outcomes measured were nurses' health-promoting behaviors, assessed using structured tools. The study design included observational studies. The Comprehensive Meta-Analysis and the R software program were used for meta-analysis. RESULTS: In total, 50 articles were selected for the systematic review and meta-analysis. The total effect size of the 50 articles was moderate (correlation effect size [ESr] = 0.30). The individual variables presented in the 50 articles were classified into nine sub-categories according to Pender's Health Promotion Model (HPM). Among them, situational influences demonstrated the largest effect size (ESr = 0.44, number of studies [k] = 2), followed by perceived self-efficacy (ESr = 0.39, k = 10) and activity-related affect (ESr = 0.32, k = 12). CONCLUSIONS: To achieve the optimal health status of nurses through health promotion intervention programs, these effective variables - situational influences, perceived self-efficacy, and activity-related affect - should be considered when developing the intervention program for nurses. RESUMO

We aimed to characterize the genomes of monkeypox virus isolates from the Far East, providing insights into viral transmission and evolution. Genomic analysis was conducted on 8 isolates obtained from patients with monkeypox virus disease in the Republic of Korea between May 2022 and early 2023. These isolates were classified into Clade IIb. Distinct lineages, including B.1.1, A.2.1, and B.1.3, were observed in 2022 and 2023 isolates, with only the B.1.3 lineage detected in six isolates of 2023. These genetic features were specific to Far East isolates (the Republic of Korea, Japan, and Taiwan), distinguishing them from the diverse lineages found in the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Oceania. In early 2023, the prevalence of the B.1.3 lineage of monkeypox virus identified in six patients with no overseas travel history is considered as an indicator of the potential initiation of local transmission in the Republic of Korea.

RESUMO

Lipid rafts, which are dynamic nanodomains in the plasma membrane, play a crucial role in intermembrane processes by clustering together and growing in size within the plane of the membrane while also aligning with each other across different membranes. However, the physical origin of layer by layer alignment of lipid rafts remains to be elucidated. Here, by using fluorescence imaging and synchrotron X-ray reflectivity in a phase-separated multilayer system, we find that the alignment of raft-mimicking Lo domains is regulated by the distance between bilayers. Molecular dynamics simulations reveal that the aligned state is energetically preferred when the intermembrane distance is small due to its ability to minimize the volume of surface water, which has fewer water hydrogen bonds (HBs) compared to bulk water. Our results suggest that water HB-driven alignment of lipid rafts plays a role as a precursor of intermembrane processes such as cell-cell fusion, virus entry, and signaling.

RESUMO

In this study, thiol-functionalized ladder-like polysesquioxanes end-capped with methyl and phenyl groups were synthesized via a simple sol-gel method and characterized through gel permeation chromatography (GPC), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Additionally, epoxy blends of different formulations were prepared. Their structural, flame-retardant, thermal, and mechanical properties, as well as volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions, were determined using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), TGA, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), limiting oxygen index (LOI), cone calorimetry, and a VOC analyzer. Compared to epoxy blends with flame retardants containing elemental phosphorus alone, those with flame retardants containing elemental phosphorus combined with silicon and sulfur exhibited superior thermal, flame-retardant, and mechanical properties with low VOC emissions. SEM of the residual char revealed a dense and continuous morphology without holes or cracks. In particular, LOI values for the combustion of methyl and phenyl end-capped polysilsesquioxane mixtures were 32.3 and 33.7, respectively, compared to 28.4% of the LOI value for the blends containing only phosphorus compounds. The silicon-sulfur-phosphorus-containing blends displayed reduced flammability concerning the blends using a flame retardant containing only phosphorus. This reflects the cooperative effects of various flame-retardant moieties.

RESUMO

Nanoplastics, arising from the fragmentation of plastics into environmental pollutants and specialized commercial applications, such as cosmetics, have elicited concerns due to their potential toxicity. Evidence suggests that the oral ingestion of nanoplastics smaller than 100 nm may penetrate the brain and induce neurotoxicity. However, comprehensive research in this area has been hampered by technical challenges associated with the detection and synthesis of nanoplastics. This study aimed to bridge this research gap by successfully synthesizing fluorescent polystyrene nanoplastics (PSNPs, 30-50 nm) through the incorporation of IR-813 and validating them using various analytical techniques. We administered PSNPs orally (10 and 20 mg/kg/day) to mice and observed that they reached brain tissues and induced cognitive dysfunction, as measured by spatial and fear memory tests, while locomotor and social behaviors remained unaffected. In vitro studies (200 µg/mL) demonstrated a predominant uptake of PSNPs by microglia over astrocytes or neurons, leading to microglial activation, as evidenced by immunostaining of cellular markers and morphological analysis. Transcriptomic analysis indicated that PSNPs altered gene expression in microglia, highlighting neuroinflammatory responses that may contribute to cognitive deficits. To further explore the neurotoxic effects of PSNPs mediated by microglial activation, we measured endogenous neuronal activity using a multi-electrode array in cultured hippocampal neurons. The application of conditioned media from microglia exposed to PSNPs suppressed neuronal activity, which was reversed by inhibitors of microglial activation. Our findings offer detailed insights into the mechanisms by which nanoplastics damage the brain, particularly emphasizing the potential environmental risk factors that contribute to cognitive impairment in neurodegenerative diseases.

RESUMO

The axon-initial-segment (AIS) of mature neurons contains microtubule (MT) fascicles (linear bundles) implicated as retrograde diffusion barriers in the retention of MT-associated protein (MAP) tau inside axons. Tau dysfunction and leakage outside of the axon is associated with neurodegeneration. We report on the structure of steady-state MT bundles in varying concentrations of Mg2+ or Ca2+ divalent cations in mixtures containing αß-tubulin, full-length tau, and GTP at 37 °C in a physiological buffer. A concentration-time kinetic phase diagram generated by synchrotron SAXS reveals a wide-spacing MT bundle phase (Bws), a transient intermediate MT bundle phase (Bint), and a tubulin ring phase. SAXS with TEM of plastic-embedded samples provides evidence of a viscoelastic intervening network (IN) of complexes of tubulin oligomers and tau stabilizing MT bundles. In this model, αß-tubulin oligomers in the IN are crosslinked by tau's MT binding repeats, which also link αß-tubulin oligomers to αß-tubulin within the MT lattice. The model challenges whether the cross-bridging of MTs is attributed entirely to MAPs. Tubulin-tau complexes in the IN or bound to isolated MTs are potential sites for enzymatic modification of tau, promoting nucleation and growth of tau fibrils in tauopathies.

RESUMO

Following the worldwide surge in mpox (monkeypox) in 2022, cases have persisted in Asia, including South Korea, and sexual contact is presumed as the predominant mode of transmission, with a discernible surge in prevalence among immunocompromised patients. Drugs such as tecovirimat can result in drug-resistant mutations, presenting obstacles to treatment. This study aimed to ascertain the presence of tecovirimat-related resistant mutations through genomic analysis of the monkeypox virus isolated from a reported case involving prolonged viral shedding in South Korea. Here, tecovirimat-resistant mutations, previously identified in the B.1 clade, were observed in the B.1.3 clade, predominant in South Korea. These mutations exhibited diverse patterns across different samples from the same patient and reflected the varied distribution of viral subpopulations in different anatomical regions. The A290V and A288P mutant strains we isolated hold promise for elucidating these mechanisms, enabling a comprehensive analysis of viral pathogenesis, replication strategies, and host interactions. Our findings imply that acquired drug-resistant mutations, may present a challenge to individual patient treatment. Moreover, they have the potential to give rise to transmitted drug-resistant mutations, thereby imposing a burden on the public health system. Consequently, the meticulous genomic surveillance among immunocompromised patients, conducted in this research, assumes paramount importance.

RESUMO

Metal nanocrystals (NCs) produced by colloidal synthesis have a variety of structural features, such as different planes, edges, and defects. Even from the best colloidal syntheses, these characteristics are distributed differently in each NC. This inherent heterogeneity can play a significant role in the properties displayed by NCs. This manuscript reports the use of electrochemistry to synthesize Au NCs in a system evaluated to track individual NC growth trajectories as a first step toward rapid identification of NCs with different structural features. Au nanocubes were prepared colloidally and deposited onto a glassy carbon electrode using either electrospray or an airbrush, resulting in well-spaced Au nanocubes. The Au nanocubes then served as seeds as gold salt was reduced to deposit metal at constant potential. Deposition at constant potential facilitates overgrowth on the Au nanocubes to achieve new NC shapes. The effects of applied potential, deposition time, precursor concentration, and capping agents on NC shape evolution were studied. The outcomes are correlated to results from traditional colloidal syntheses, providing a bridge between the two synthetic strategies. Moreover, scanning electron microscopy was used to image the same NCs before and after deposition, linking individual seed features to differences in deposition. This ability is anticipated to enable tracking of individual growth trajectories of NCs to elucidate sources of heterogeneity in NC syntheses.

RESUMO

A fundamental question in neurodevelopmental biology is how flexibly the nervous system changes during development. To address this, we reconstructed the chemical connectome of dauer, an alternative developmental stage of nematodes with distinct behavioral characteristics, by volumetric reconstruction and automated synapse detection using deep learning. With the basic architecture of the nervous system preserved, structural changes in neurons, large or small, were closely associated with connectivity changes, which in turn evoked dauer-specific behaviors such as nictation. Graph theoretical analyses revealed significant dauer-specific rewiring of sensory neuron connectivity and increased clustering within motor neurons in the dauer connectome. We suggest that the nervous system in the nematode has evolved to respond to harsh environments by developing a quantitatively and qualitatively differentiated connectome.

RESUMO

To introduce a design strategy for improving optical properties, two silver-amino alkylpyridine nitrate complexes, AgC6H8N3O3 and Ag2C14H20N6O6, were successfully synthesized using a recrystallization method. By employing polarizable π-conjugated [NO3-] ions, two types of pyridine ligands, and silver cations with a high affinity for pyridine, we obtained a one-dimensional chain structure with 4-aminomethylpyridine (AgC6H8N3O3) and a zero-dimensional molecular compound by introducing a relatively flexible aliphatic chain with 4-(2-aminoethyl)pyridine (Ag2C14H20N6O6). The compounds crystallize in the triclinic crystal system with the centrosymmetric P-1 space group, exhibiting a change in orientation between the π-conjugated system and the silver ion. Despite similar optical band gaps (3.69 eV for AgC6H8N3O3 and 3.73 eV for Ag2C14H20N6O6), AgC6H8N3O3 shows higher absorption in the 350-600 nm range. Electronic structure calculations support the ultraviolet absorption findings, suggesting that charge transfer with π-conjugated systems influences birefringence. Ag2C14H20N6O6 exhibits experimental birefringence (0.261@546.1 nm) surpassing that of AgC6H8N3O3 (0.212@546.1 nm), placing it among the highest recorded values within metal-pyridine incorporating nitrate complexes. The nonconventional orientation of π-conjugated [NO3-] ions contributes to this phenomenon, enhancing the action of free π-conjugated orbitals. This design strategy for micromodulating the alignment of the π-conjugated system promises to be an effective approach for enhancing optical properties, such as birefringence.

RESUMO

Cell identification is an important yet difficult process in data analysis of biological images. Previously, we developed an automated cell identification method called CRF_ID and demonstrated its high performance in C. elegans whole-brain images (Chaudhary et al, 2021). However, because the method was optimized for whole-brain imaging, comparable performance could not be guaranteed for application in commonly used C. elegans multi-cell images that display a subpopulation of cells. Here, we present an advance CRF_ID 2.0 that expands the generalizability of the method to multi-cell imaging beyond whole-brain imaging. To illustrate the application of the advance, we show the characterization of CRF_ID 2.0 in multi-cell imaging and cell-specific gene expression analysis in C. elegans. This work demonstrates that high accuracy automated cell annotation in multi-cell imaging can expedite cell identification and reduce its subjectivity in C. elegans and potentially other biological images of various origins.

RESUMO

Background/Aims: : Risk scoring systems for upper gastrointestinal (UGI) bleeding have not been well validated for tumor bleeding. This study aimed to identify risk factors for mortality in patients with UGI cancer bleeding and to develop a predictive model. Methods: : Consecutive patients with UGI cancers who underwent esophagogastroduodenoscopy for suspected bleeding were retrospectively included. Patient characteristics, endoscopic findings and 30-day mortality were assessed. A predictive model was made based on risk factors for mortality using logistic regression, and the area under the curve (AUC) of this model was calculated. It was then compared with other risk scoring systems. Results: : In a total of 264 patients, 193 had tumor bleeding. Among them, 108 (56.0%), 76 (39.4%), and nine (4.7%) patients received conservative treatment, endoscopic therapy, and non-endoscopic hemostasis, respectively. Rebleeding occurred in 23 (21.3%), 26 (34.2%), and one (11.1%) patient(s), respectively. Our new model is composed of altered mental status, renal failure, rebleeding, age older than 65 years, and low serum albumin (all p<0.05). This model predicted 30-day mortality with an AUC of 0.79 (95% confidence interval, 0.72 to 0.86), which was significantly higher than AUCs of the Glasgow-Blatchford score, Rockall, and AIMS65 score (AUC=0.61, 0.64, and 0.69, respectively, all p<0.05). Conclusions: : Our new scoring system provides a better prediction of 30-day mortality than existing scoring systems in patients with UGI cancer bleeding. This new scoring system can be used to predict and prepare these patients who are known to have high mortality.

RESUMO

Background/Aims: This study investigated whether the personality traits of endoscopists are associated with the effect of interventions for the improvement of colonoscopy quality. Methods: This prospective, multicenter, single-blind study was performed with 13 endoscopists in three health screening centers over a 12-month period. Quality indicators (QIs), including adenoma detection rate (ADR), polyp detection rate (PDR), and withdrawal time, were measured every 3 months. Consecutive interventions for the improvement of colonoscopy quality were conducted every 3 months, which included the personal notification of QIs, the in-group notification of QIs, and finally a targeted "quality education" session. The personality traits of each endoscopist were evaluated for perfectionism, fear of negative evaluation, and cognitive flexibility after the last QI assessment. Results: A total of 4,095 colonoscopies were evaluated to measure the QIs of the individual endoscopists for 12 months. The mean ADR, PDR, and withdrawal time of the 13 endoscopists were 32.3%, 47.7%, and 394 seconds at baseline and increased to 39.0%, 55.1%, and 430 seconds by the end of the study (p=0.003, p=0.006, and p=0.004, respectively). Among the three interventions, only quality education significantly improved QIs: ADR, 36.0% to 39.0% (odds ratio, 1.28; 95% confidence interval, 1.01 to 1.63). The improvement of ADR and PDR by education was significantly associated with perfectionism (r=0.617, p=0.033 and r=0.635, p=0.027, respectively) and fear of negative evaluation (r=0.704, p=0.011 and r=0.761, p=0.004, respectively). Conclusions: Education can improve colonoscopy quality, and its effect size is associated with an endoscopist's personal traits such as perfectionism and fear of negative evaluation (Clinical-Trials.gov Registry NCT03796169).

RESUMO

We developed an optical signaling probe to detect Pd2+ ions in Pd-containing catalyst and drug candidate. The Pd2+ signaling probe (Res-DT) was readily prepared by reacting the versatile fluorochrome resorufin with phenyl chlorodithioformate. In a phosphate-buffered saline solution (pH 7.4) containing sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as a signal-boosting surfactant, Res-DT exhibited a pronounced colorimetric response with a chromogenic yellow to magenta shift, leading to a substantial increase in the fluorescence intensity. The Pd2+ signaling performance of Res-DT was attributed to the Pd2+-promoted hydrolysis of the dithioate moiety. The probe displayed high selectivity toward Pd2+ ions and remained unaffected by commonly encountered coexisting components. Moreover, the detection limit of Res-DT for Pd2+ ions was 10 nM, and the signaling was achieved within 7 min. Furthermore, to demonstrate the real-world applicability of Res-DT, a Pd2+ assay was performed in Pd-containing catalyst and drug candidate using an office scanner as an easily accessible measurement device. Our results highlight the prospects of Res-DT as a tool to detect Pd2+ ions in various practical samples, with potential applications in catalysis, medicine, and environmental science.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Metachronous gastric cancer (MGC) can occur after endoscopic resection for gastric cancer. Further studies on factors other than Helicobacter pylori infection are needed. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate risk factors for metachronous recurrence of endoscopically resected gastric cancer. METHODS: We searched medical literature published by February 2023 and identified patients with MGC after endoscopic resection for gastric cancer. The occurrence of MGC and the presence of intestinal metaplasia (IM), severe atrophic gastritis (AG), and H. pylori infection were quantitatively analyzed. RESULTS: We identified 2,755 patients from nine cohort studies who underwent endoscopic resection for gastric cancer by 2018. Those with severe AG or presence of IM had a significantly higher incidence of MGC than those without (RR 2.00, 95% CI 1.35-2.98, I2 = 52% for severe atrophy on antrum; RR 7.08, 95% CI 3.63-13.80, I2 = 0% for antral IM). Absolute risk difference of MGC occurrence was 7.1% in those with severe AG and 9.2% in those with IM. The difference in incidence rate per 1,000 person-years was 17.5 person-years for those with severe AG and 24.7 person-years for those with IM. However, H. pylori eradication did not significantly affect the occurrence of MGC (RR 1.18, 95% CI 0.88-1.59, I2 = 10%). CONCLUSION: Gastric cancer patients with severe AG or presence of IM had a 2.0-fold or 7.0-fold higher risk of MGC occurrence after endoscopic resection than those without, respectively. They need more stringent follow-up to monitor MGC occurrences (CRD42023410940).

Gastric cancer is the fifth most common cancer and the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Autoimmune gastritis (AIG) is characterized by antibody production against the gastric parietal cells, reducing the number of functional parietal cells. It is also associated with an increased susceptibility to gastric neuroendocrine tumors and gastric cancer. Endoscopic resection (ER) is an effective treatment for early gastric cancer; however, metachronous gastric neoplasms (MGN) can develop. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical effect of AIG on the occurrence of MGN after ER for gastric neoplasms. We retrospectively analyzed patients who underwent ER for gastric neoplasms. Patients with multiple lesions, recurrent lesions, or a history of partial gastrectomy were excluded. The presence of AIG was determined using anti-parietal cell antibody (APCA) testing. Follow-up endoscopy and metachronous tumor occurrence rates were compared between the AIG and non-AIG groups. Of the 569 patients, 282 underwent APCA testing and 20 (7.1%) were diagnosed with AIG. The incidence of MGN was significantly higher in the AIG group than in the non-AIG group (45.0% vs. 18.3%); however, the MGN occurrence pattern was similar between the two groups. Multivariate analysis revealed that AIG (HR 3.32, 95% CI 1.55-7.10, p = 0.002) and a higher body mass index (HR 1.16, 95% CI 1.06-1.27, p = 0.002) were independent factors significantly associated with the occurrence of MGN. Patients with AIG have a higher risk of metachronous lesion occurrence after ER for gastric neoplasms. Positive results of APCA testing have independent clinical implications for predicting MGN. Proper monitoring and management are essential for early detection and treatment of recurrent lesions in patients with AIG.
