RESUMO

Chronic increase in the intravesical pressure secondary to bladder outlet obstruction can lead to the formation of bladder diverticulum. Bladder diverticulum may get pulled into the hernial sac and may become a component of the hernia. Here, we report the case of an elderly male who had an unusual presentation of urinary bladder diverticulum as the content in an obstructed inguinal hernia. Upon exploration, the bladder diverticulum was released from the inguinal canal and returned to the peritoneal cavity, following which conventional hernioplasty was done. Inguinal herniation of bladder diverticulum is an uncommon condition and can be perilous during surgery if not diagnosed preoperatively.

RESUMO

Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common benign tumor affecting the major salivary glands and infrequently arises from the minor salivary glands. It involves the parotid of the major salivary glands and the palate of the minor salivary glands. This article presents a case of pleomorphic adenoma of the palatal minor salivary gland treated successfully by surgical excision.

RESUMO

Local anesthetic (LA) agents are commonly employed during surgical procedures in dentistry to control pain. There are a variety of LA agents available in the market with different concentration of adrenaline added to increase the efficacy. The systemic effects of adrenaline used as vasoconstrictors in LA solution are short lived or transient in nature; however, there are instances of associated cardiovascular problems. This study compares the efficacy and cardiovascular effects with the use of 2% lignocaine with two different concentrations of adrenaline.

RESUMO

Sialolithiasis is the formation of calcific concretions within the parenchyma or ductal system of the major or minor salivary glands, but it most commonly affects the submandibular salivary gland. Sialolithiasis usually occurs in adults aged 30 to 60 years and causes pathognomonic pain during meals. The treatment of sialolithiasis depends on the size and location of the calculi. We present two cases of sialolithiasis of the submandibular gland managed via the intraoral and extraoral approaches, depending on the position of the calculi.

RESUMO

A dentigerous cyst is an odontogenic cyst, associated with the crown of an impacted or unerupted tooth. The occurrence of bilateral dentigerous cysts is uncommon among the odontogenic cysts of the jaw, as they are usually solitary. Multiple cysts, when reported, are generally associated with syndromes such as cleidocranial dysplasia, Maroteaux-Lamy syndrome, and systemic diseases like mucopolysaccharidosis. This article presents a case of bilateral mandibular dentigerous cysts in a nonsyndromic patient, along with a review of the literature and an examination of the treatment modality.

RESUMO

This case report presents the removal of complex composite odontoma in a young patient in the right body of mandible via the unilateral sagittal splitting of the mandible. This article shows that sagittal split osteotomy of the mandible can be very useful to access various pathologies in the body, angle, and ramus of the mandible and to navigate lesions that are in proximity to the inferior alveolar nerve. This technique also helps in avoiding postoperative morbidity when compared to other conventional surgical approaches. It can be used to remove large cysts, benign non-infiltrative tumours of the mandible, odontogenic myxoma, large odontoma, and deeply impacted lower third molars.
