RESUMO

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The purpose of the current review is to analyze the current literature regarding the tools available to evaluate patient expectations and satisfaction. There have been an increasing number of tools that have been developed and validated for various orthopedic procedures. Despite the growing number of tools, there are a limited number of tools available for pediatric patients. RECENT FINDINGS: Several tools have been developed in orthopedics to evaluate patient expectations. However, there are no tools that have been validated in the pediatric population. In addition, pediatric patient expectations should be collected in conjunction with parent/caregiver expectations. Although not specifically validated for pediatric patients, there are several tools available that may pertain to pediatric patients including the HSS ACL Expectations Survey, HSS Shoulder Expectations Survey, HSS Knee Surgery Expectations Survey, HSS Foot and Ankle Surgery Expectation Survey, Sunnybrook Surgery Expectations Survey, Musculoskeletal Outcomes Data Evaluation and Management System (MODEMS) Instruments, Quick DASH, and DASH. In terms of patient satisfaction, there are even fewer tools available. Several tools have been developed to evaluate patient satisfaction and five additional tools within orthopedics. Of these tools, there are two that have been validated for pediatric patients: The Swedish Parents Satisfaction Questionnaire and the Scoliosis Research Society-22. There are a growing number of tools to evaluate patient's expectations and satisfaction in the orthopedic literature. Given most of these tools pertain to adult patients, there is a need for further development of tools specifically validated for pediatric patients and their parents/caregivers. Through the measurement of expectations and satisfaction, medical professionals can hope to improve satisfaction and outcomes.

RESUMO

To promote prosocial behaviour, in the present study, we observed the human values that may predict it within the realms of the transcendental views of life, society's shared culture and the world of personal and interpersonal affections. To do this, we started with two hypotheses: (1) prosocial behaviour differs according to gender and participation in volunteering; and (2) the variables of transcendental values, cultural development, affective development, gender and participation in volunteering predict prosocial behaviour. To do so, we conducted a quantitative study based on the cross-sectional, social analytical-empirical research method. We used a validated instrument with a large sample of 1,712 individuals living in the multicultural context of the Spanish city of Melilla, located in North Africa and one of only two land borders between Europe and Morocco. Values that could promote prosocial behaviour were grouped into four dimensions to locate relevant factors that helped identify which values are linked to specific actions, both formal and informal, through an inferential analysis focusing on regression and multivariate analysis of variance. Our findings highlighted the linkage of the transcendent dimension of the individual in relation to his or her level of prosocial behaviour and the role of women as socialising agents.

RESUMO

Background: Distal radius fractures are very frequent fractures in the world, so it is necessary to establish new rehabilitation strategies. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of tele rehabilitation versus supervised treatment in the functional recovery of patients with distal radius fracture. Method: A randomized clinical trial was conducted that included 91 patients with distal radius fractures grades AO23 A and AO23B, which were randomly assigned to a treatment group, the supervised rehabilitation group received for two weeks a program of 10 treatment sessions and the tele rehabilitation group received through the Moodle platform instructions to carry out the rehabilitation program. Outcome measures (functionality, active range of motion, hand grip strength, quality of life and pain) were measured at the time of admission to rehabilitation and at 1, 3 and 6 months. Results: In both treatment groups at 6 months, statistically significant intragroup differences in functionality were demonstrated, with no intergroup differences. Conclusions: At 6 months, both rehabilitation programs increase functionality, range of motion, quality of life and decrease pain, without statistically significant differences intergroup.

This article aimed to analyze, through a qualitative study (i.e., semi-structured interview), the opinions and knowledge of fourth-year future teachers at a Spanish public university (University of Granada) regarding training and the need for first aid (FA) at school. With a sample of 70 subjects in their last year of training, our conclusion is that although they are aware of the importance of first aid for their professional development, there is no such training in their careers, and thus they have great difficulty understanding how to react to emergency situations on the job.

RESUMO

In the search for sustainable development, in which the ecological footprint is carefully considered by consumers and companies, teachers play an important role within a social and economic framework. This role relates to aspects of social responsibility. It should involve knowledge about education for responsible consumption in order to care for the environment both individually and socially. Considering this, the aim of this study is to find out whether there are differences in the level of awareness and the habits of future teachers of Early Childhood and Primary Education regarding sustainable social responsibility. A non-probabilistic sample of 30 Early Childhood Education degree students and 22 Primary Education degree students was used. Semi-structured interviews and an inductive process were conducted to examine the importance of Sustainable Development in society, the relevance of Social Responsibility for Sustainable Development (individual versus corporate), the attitudes and habits relative to Sustainable Development and the education on Sustainable Development in schools: knowledge, attitudes, and proposals. Students agree that they consume excessively. This is everyone's individual responsibility (as regarded by all participants), although changes could be supported by institutions and companies (Early Childhood education students argue in favour of corporate responsibility). Knowledge deficits were identified in relation to production, distribution, and sale processes. They consider education to be the main factor for sustainability, while society is ranked as the least important, observing an evident disagreement in relation to environmental and economic factors (perception of collective responsibility; Early Childhood versus Primary Education students). Finally, they also outline teaching proposals (active and participatory) to foster education for sustainable development at schools.

RESUMO

A number of physical factors can adversely affect cultural heritage. Therefore, monitoring parameters involved in the deterioration process, principally temperature and relative humidity, is useful for preventive conservation. In this study, a total of 15 microclimate stations using open source hardware were developed and stationed at the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba, which is registered with UNESCO for its outstanding universal value, to assess the behavior of interior temperature and relative humidity in relation to exterior weather conditions, public hours and interior design. Long-term monitoring of these parameters is of interest in terms of preservation and reducing the costs of future conservation strategies. Results from monitoring are presented to demonstrate the usefulness of this system.

Abstract One of the most severe complications of diabetes mellitus is the diabetic foot, which is the sum of macroangiopathy, microangiopathy and neuropathy, which leads to low vascular flow, and development of lesions which rapidly progress to ulcer and may attain all tissues; the Wagner classification1 shows how a little superficial lesion may affect all tissues: tendons, muscles and even bones, to severely affect the general health and may end on death by sepsis. The conventional treatment has good results, but requires a careful program of local attention, protection from larger lesions, antibiotics, etc., and if does not have good results, may ends on foot amputation. The use of nanoparticles of metallic oxides, silicium dioxide and titanium dioxide, prepared by the sol-gel technique, may offer a viable alternative for diabetic ulcer treatment due a mechanism which allows to keep it dry and at the same time, inhibit bacterial growing through a biocatalytic effect2. To evaluate the use of these nanoparticles in diabetic foot, a research protocol was established in a group of diabetic patients who attend to the Center Specialized on Handling of the Diabetic Patient from Mexico City of Secretary of Health; this protocol was approved by the Educations and Research Direction of the Secretary of Health. 62 diabetic patient with diabetic ulcers of different degree were studied; the nanoparticles were applied every 48 hours and evaluated with photos and bacterial cultures. All patients who received the complete treatment healed their ulcers, with satisfactory healing. Conclusion: The topical application of metallic oxides nanoparticles seems to be useful in the treatment of diabetic ulcers.
