RESUMO

BACKGROUND: In 2022, the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) and an update of the Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM 5 TR) were released for implementation worldwide and now include the new Prolonged Grief Disorder (PGD). The newest definition of PGD is based on robust clinical research from the Global North yet until now has not been tested for global applicability. METHODS: The current study assesses the new PGD ICD-11 criteria in a large international sample of 1393 bereaved adults. The majority of the sample was included from the USΑ. Additionally, we conduct a sub-sample analysis to evaluate the psychometric properties, probable caseness of PGD, and differences in network structure across three regions of residency (USA, Greece-Cyprus, Turkey-Iran). RESULTS: The psychometric validity and reliability of the 33-item International Prolonged Grief Disorder Scale (IPGDS) were confirmed across the whole sample and for each regional group. Using the strict diagnostic algorithm, the probable caseness for PGD for the whole sample was 3.6 %. Probable caseness was highest for the Greece-Cyprus group (6.9 %) followed by Turkey-Iran (3.2 %) and the USA (2.8 %). Finally, the network structure of the IPGDS standard items and cultural supplement items (total of 33 items) confirmed the strong connection between central items of PGD, and revealed unique network connections within the regional groups. LIMITATIONS: Future research is encouraged to include larger sample sizes and a more systematic assessment of culture. CONCLUSION: Overall, our findings confirm the global applicability of the new ICD-11 PGD disorder definition as evaluated through the newly developed IPGDS. This scale includes culturally sensitive grief symptoms that may improve clinical precision and decision-making.

RESUMO

AIM: To analyze stress in a metal-ceramic, zirconia and lithium disilicate implant-supported unitary fixed partial prosthesis in the first lower premolar through finite element analysis at a 500 N force. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Three study models were carried out, metal-ceramic, lithium disilicate and zirconium implant-supported crowns in the first lower premolar. The dental implant was made of titanium grade 5 based on the Bolt® model of UniDentalDirect with internal grooved connection (18 grooves) and the implant had a size of 11,0 x 4,5 mm, preformed abutment and integrated screw. The three designs had vertical and oblique (45°) forces applications at 500 N. The geometric modeling was performed with the SolidWorks® 2017 program and the results were obtained through the Von mises analysis using the CosmoWorks®2017 program. RESULTS: The lowest value of maximum stress on crown level, under vertical and oblique forces, was found in the lithium disilicate crown with 21,9 MPa and 33,2 MPa, and with a minimum difference with the zirconium crown with 22,1 MPa and 35,1 MPa; on the abutment level, the zirconium crown had the lowest value of maximum stress with 18,6 MPa and 28,1 MPa; at the screw level, there were no significant differences. CONCLUSION: Metal-ceramic, lithium disilicate, and zirconia crowns proved to be materials of good compressive and tensile strength, but it was concluded that the zirconia crown design generated lower overall stress.

RESUMO

In this work, we show that under specific anomalous diffusion conditions, chemical systems can produce well-ordered self-similar concentration patterns through diffusion-driven instability. We also find spiral patterns and patterns with mixtures of rotational symmetries. The type of anomalous diffusion discussed in this work, either subdiffusion or superdiffusion, is a consequence of the medium heterogeneity, and it is modeled through a space-dependent diffusion coefficient with a power-law functional form.

RESUMO

The aim of this paper is to highlight data related to health and antioxidants. According to the literature, these substances may participate to neutralize the excess of free radicals in oxidation mechanisms. The production of free radicals, a usual biological phenomenon, is regulated by different metabolic routes, since they are the first line of defense in the human body. Even though they are important in order to maintain a healthy body, the imbalance between endogenous antioxidants and free radicals, known as oxidative stress, is associated with different diseases and human aging. This paper also presents some sources of exogenous antioxidants, focusing on fruits and other vegetables and presents data from a local exploratory study about antioxidants consumption.

A model based on the fractal continuum approach is proposed to describe tracer transport in fractal porous media. The original approach has been extended to treat tracer transport and to include systems with radial and uniform flow, which are cases of interest in geoscience. The models involve advection due to the fluid motion in the fractal continuum and dispersion whose mathematical expression is taken from percolation theory. The resulting advective-dispersive equations are numerically solved for continuous and for pulse tracer injection. The tracer profile and the tracer breakthrough curve are evaluated and analyzed in terms of the fractal parameters. It has been found in this work that anomalous transport frequently appears, and a condition on the fractal parameter values to predict when sub- or superdiffusion might be expected has been obtained. The fingerprints of fractality on the tracer breakthrough curve in the explored parameter window consist of an early tracer breakthrough and long tail curves for the spherical and uniform flow cases, and symmetric short tailed curves for the radial flow case.

RESUMO

In this paper an advective-dispersion equation with scale-dependent coefficients is proposed for describing transport through fractals. This equation is obtained by imposing scale invariance and assuming that the porosity, the dispersion coefficient, and the velocity follow fractional power laws on the scale. The model incorporates the empirically found trends in highly heterogeneous media, regarding the dependence of the dispersivity on the scale and the dispersion coefficient on the velocity. We conclude that the presence of nontrivial fractal parameters produces anomalous dispersion, as expected, and that the presence of convective processes induces a reescalation in the concentration and shifts the tracer velocity to different values with respect to the nonfractal case.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Sporotrichosis is a subcutaneous fungal infection. Lymphocutaneous and fixed sporotrichosis are the most common forms; cases of disseminated sporotrichosis are rare. There have been isolated reports and some epidemic familial outbreaks of the infection. METHODS: We studied four members of two families who contracted sporotrichosis after sleeping in an old and rust-stained camping tent. RESULTS: All cases presented with polymorphic lesions, three of them with multiple sites of inoculation. The camping tent was shown to be the source of infection. CONCLUSIONS: We report an epidemic of sporotrichosis in a family. In three cases disseminated cutaneous sporotrichosis occurred in nonimmunodeficient patients. The isolate of Sporothrix schenckii from a camping tent is extremely rare.
