En la mayoría de las ocasiones no hay consecuencias; sin embargo, en caso de que el cuerpo extraño ingerido sea una batería de botón, el efecto puede ser inclusive la muerte. Caso clínico. Los autores relatan el caso de un paciente preescolarque sufrió fístula aortoesofágica fatal por quemadura del esófago por una batería de botón ingerida. Discusión. Una vez que se instala la fístula, se manifiesta como una hemorragia gastrointestinal y colapso vascular. Conclusiones. Esta complicación es frecuentemente mortal (AU)

Indoor wounds in infants probably represent widest range of minor lesions. However, there are casualties as consequence of falls, burns and ingestion of foreign bodies. Intestinal rupture due to ingested magnetic device is a very unusual event. We report the case of a four-month old female patient with this complication is presented. During first laparotomy intestinal rupture and magnetic buttons of cellular telephone as causal agent was found. Three days after operation, she required a second look due to cecum rupture. Primary reparation was performed. In order to demonstrate a pathogenic hypothesis, the bottom was put in a porcine bowel segment surrounding for a metallic jail, resulting in bowel rupture. We concluded that the ingested magnetic devices can produce intestinal rupture.

Synthesis and absolute configuration of (S)-(-)- and (R)-(+)-2, 3-dihydro-2-(1-methylethenyl)-6-methoxybenzofuran

Resolution of racemic 2,3-dihydro-2-carboxy-6-methoxybenzofuran (2) by recrystallizations of diastereomeric salts prepared with (S)-(-)-alpha-methylbenzylamine and (R)-(+)-alpha-methylbenzylamine gave the starting materials for the four-step total syntheses of (S)-(-)-2,3-dihydro-2-(1-methylethenyl)-6-methoxybenzofuran (1a) and (R)-(+)-2,3-dihydro-2-(1-methylethenyl)-6-methoxybenzofuran (1b). Their absolute configuration was established by chemical correlation.

Isolation, total synthesis, and relative stereochemistry of a dihydrofurocoumarin from dorstenia contrajerva

The roots of Dorstenia contrajerva afforded the dihydrofurocoumarin 1b whose identity was determined from NMR spectral data of the derived acetate 7b combined with the total syntheses of 1a and 1b, which were carried out in five steps with 19% overall yield, starting from 2,3-dihydro-2-isopropenyl-6-methoxybenzofuran (2). The relative stereochemistry of 7b was determined from a single-crystal X-ray diffraction study as (2S,1'S)-2, 3-dihydro-2-(1'-hydroxy-1'-acetyloxymethylethyl)-7H-furo[3, 2g][1]benzopyran-7-one.

[Use of low-grade potatoes in the production of whole flour for the preparation of foods for popular consumption]. / Aprovechamiento de la papa de desecho en la obtención de harina integral para la elaboración de alimentos de consumo popular.

A whole flour potato obtention process was developed which could be used in semirural areas. The potato without peeling was previously washed and ground adding 100 p.p.m. of sodium bisulphite, then it was dehydrated in a cabinet tray dryer with an air flow circulation set at 70 degrees C using three different deep beds (10, 20 and 25 mm). Finally it was milled, sieved and packed in polyethylene Kraft bags and stored for 10 months at room temperature. Results showed that drying time increased less rapidly when the bed depth was increased, so that the overall dryer productivity increased when increasing bed depth. Nevertheless, a better-quality product was obtained, as well as a greater process efficiency when a 10 mm bed depth was used. The whole flour had a particle size of 80 mesh and a moisture and protein content of 7 and 6.7%, respectively. No brown color formation or mold growth occurred during storage. "Tamales de dulce" and chocolate cookies were made with the flour obtained. These were subjected to an acceptability test at community level, and the test revealed that for both products, such acceptability was higher than 90%.
