Reiki como terapia não convencional: conhecimentos dos enfermeiros / Reiki as a non conventional therapy: nurses' knowledge

Enquadramento: O interesse pelas Terapias Não Convencionais (TNC) teve um grande desenvolvimento no início deste século. O Reiki é uma terapia realizada através da colocação das mãos em pontos específicos do corpo e que utiliza a transferência de energia para proporcionar um bem-estar natural. A Enfermagem em especial a de Reabilitação, também apresenta dentro das suas intervenções específicas, uma vertente essencial baseada no toque à pessoa a quem presta cuidados, sendo por isso importante possuir conhecimentos sobre estas técnicas. Objetivos: Avaliar os conhecimentos dos enfermeiros acerca do Reiki e identificar fatores determinantes nesse conhecimento. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo transversal, descritivo e correlacional, realizado numa amostra de 49 enfermeiros a exercer funções em instituições da região centro do país, baseado num questionário de conhecimentos elaborado pelas investigadoras. Resultados: Constatamos que os conhecimentos globais dos enfermeiros sobre o Reiki eram para 59,1% razoáveis, para 38,6% altos e apenas 2,3% apresentava baixos conhecimentos. Pudemos verificar diferenças estatisticamente significativas entre o "Conhecimento Total", e as variáveis "ter iniciação em Reiki" e "ter recebido tratamento com Reiki" para o grupo de enfermeiros dos Cuidados Diferenciados (CD). Encontraram-se diferenças estatisticamente significativas, também, entre a dimensão "Conceito e História" e grupos etários, habilitações literárias, categoria profissional e tempo de serviço para os enfermeiros a exercer nos CD. Conclusão: Os conhecimentos dos enfermeiros sobre o Reiki são bastante significativos, sendo estes claramente superiores no grupo que exerce funções em CD. Por outro lado encontrámos fatores que interferem na determinação desses conhecimentos e que por isso importa controlar. P

Framing: Interest in Non-Conventional Therapies had a great development earlier this century. Reiki therapy is performed by placing the hands on specific points of the body and uses the energy transfer to provide a natural well-being. Nursing, in particular Rehabilitation also features within their specific interventions, an essential part based on touch to the person they're providing care, so it is important to have knowledge about these techniques. Objectives: Evaluate the knowledge of nurses about Reiki and identify the determinants of this knowledge. Methods: This is a cross-sectional, descriptive and correlational study, performed in a 49 nurse's sample working in institutions of the central region, based on a questionnaire prepared by the researchers. Results: We found that overall knowledge of nurses about Reiki were to 59.1% reasonable, to 38.6 % high and only 2.3 % had low knowledge. We saw statistically significant differences between the "Total Knowledge" and the variables "have initiation in Reiki" and "receiving treatment with Reiki" for the group of nurses working on Differentiated Care (DC). We found statistically significant differences, too, between the dimension "Concept and History" and age groups, qualifications, professional category and length of service for nurses working on DC. Conclusion: The knowledge of nurses about the Reiki is quite significant, which are clearly higher in the group working on DC. On the other hand we found factors that interfere in the determination of this knowledge and therefore matter to control.

BACKGROUND: As the population gets older, the rehabilitation nurse's importance gets higher. The rehabilitation nurse improves the patient's quality of life, well being, and contributes to upgrade health care worldwide. It has a fundamental role in multidisciplinary healthcare teams. In our institution's orthopedics ward, there was no rehabilitation care during the weekend and holidays, due to the absence of rehabilitation nurses during that period. AIM: Ensure rehabilitation nursing care on weekends and holidays, continuing care and helping to decrease the length of stay in inpatient surgical services. METHODS: We did a retrospective analysis of the length of stay in the orthopedics ward at our hospital, after the implementation of rehabilitation care during weekends and holidays. RESULTS: In the last three years, since rehabilitation care is maintained during the weekend and holidays, the length of stay at the ward decreased. CONCLUSIONS: The results sustain the importance of rehabilitation nurses in multidisciplinary teams, and emphasize its role in reducing the length of stay at the ward with health care gains.
