RESUMO

The authors presented data on occupational skin diseases in the Bydgoszcz Region during the years 1979-1991. They described caused of these diseases with special reference to eczema which proved to be most common. During a thirteen-year period under study, 262 occupational skin diseases were diagnosed, out of them 243 (89.3%) were the result of allergy. Changes in skin induced by chromium, nickel or cobalt were confirmed in 171 diseases. Occupational chromium allergy was diagnosed in 153 patients. The following allergens proved to be responsible in most cases for eczema: in females: chromium as well as chromium, nickel and cobalt jointly, in males: chromium as well as chromium and cobalt jointly, in both genders: chromium as well as chromium and cobalt jointly. It was found that in females incidence of occupational allergic eczema induced by nickel was almost twice that high as in males; almost five times higher when induced by nickel and cobalt jointly and almost six times higher when induced by chromium, nickel and cobalt jointly. It was indicated that in males incidence of eczema induced by chromium is one and a half times higher than in females and almost two times higher when induced by chromium and cobalt jointly.

RESUMO

The period after which skin changes appear is discussed, as well as localisation of their earliest appearance and allergens characteristic for physicians, dentists, nurses, veterinary surgeons and assistants, photographers and hair- dressers . Photographes handling coloured developers were found to be more exposed to dermatosis than those handling black and white ones. Ladies' hair- dressers suffer more frequently than gentelmen 's and nurses coming into contact with antibiotics and disinfectants are more exposed than other nurses.

RESUMO

Dermatoses characteristic for several branches of industry: metal, electrotechnical, photochemical and pharmaceutical and for laminators and galvanizers are discussed. The periods are given after which skin changes appear, their primary localisation and the allergens specific for the particular occupations. In photo-chemical industry workers, beside dermatitis. lichen planus was also noted.

RESUMO

Three groups of patients suffering from eczema, exposed to cement, have been examined. Altogether there were 293 subjects. No particularly strong sensitizing properties of the Polish cement have been found. This, however, calls for confirmation. Differences, hitherto unknown, between masons and concretors have been found at the middle stage of eczema incubation and at middle age when occupational skin lesions occur, indicating a clearly higher allergy risk in concretors. On the other hand the sensitivity to particular metals has been similar in all building workers and did not differ from that in other countries.

RESUMO

In the report new contact allergens and allergen sources detected in Warsaw in the period 1975-1977 are described. They are divided into 3 groups: industrial allergens, remaining occupational allergens and cosmetics. There are given some data concerning the substances present in industrial oils, hardeners and epoxy resin solvents, drugs sensitizing nurses, several new sources of chromium allergens, essential oils and synthetic flavours. Results obtained with various star anise oil samples are described. Essential oils and synthetic flavours. Results obtained with various star anise oil samples are described. Essential oils and synthetic flavours are discussed as the main allergens in cosmetics.
