RESUMO

In Tajikistan, the mosquitoes Anopheles superpictus (Grassi 1899) are one of the major malaria vectors. The basic habitats are the mountain and submountain landscapes of an area where this species is reckoned among the most dangerous carriers of the disease. The malaria control tactic should be determined by the species of a vector and the specific features of a protected contingent, by improving the sanitary education of people and environmental sanitation.

RESUMO

In 2005, Tajikistan joined the Move of Elimination of Tropical Malaria in 2010 and Tertian Malaria to 2015 (Tashkent Declaration, WHO European Office for European). To achieve the targets and goals, it is necessary to evaluate the efficiency of therapeutic and preventive measures in 2000-2007, i.e. in the postepidemic period preceding elimination (pre-elimination according to the WHO terminology). Investigations were conducted in the Gorno-Badakhstan Autonomous Region, Khatlon and Sogdiysk Regions, in the districts under the Republic's jurisdiction, and in the city of Dushanbe. The results of the investigations has shown that a small proportion of the population has red blood cell glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, which does not preclude mass preventive treatment with primaquine that is responsible for a 2.5-fold reduction in the number of foci (783 foci of different types). Foci should be typified for the rational use of a package of therapeutic and preventive measures in the endemic areas. Differentiated packages of therapeutic and preventive measures correspondingly to the National Malaria Strategy of the Republic of Tajikistan should be implemented depending on the type of a focus.

RESUMO

Survival of Bac. thuringiensis, producers of bacterial insecticides in plant products, was studied in the process of culinary and technological treatment (thermal treatment, preservation, etc.), depending on the extent of dissemination of plant raw material, type of the plant product and pattern of culinary treatment. A study was also made of the viability of the above species in finished products and dishes exposed to varying storage temperatures. According to the data obtained, the use of plant raw material with Bac. thuringiensis at a rate of not over 10(3)/g for vegetables (cabbage, potato, and tomatoe) and not over 10(5)/g for fruit and berries (apples, currants, gooseberry, grape) guarantees their epidermiological safety. At this dissemination level, the finished vegetable products did not show Bac. thuringiensis spores after culinary treatment, while in the processed fruit and berries the remaining small quantities of the spores (about tens or hundreds per 1 ml) did not reproduce. Moreover, their quantity rapidly decreased because of atrophy. However, to have a final judgment about the safety of the spores supplied to the body together with food in the quantities mentioned requires an additional study into potential side effects they can elicit.
