Primary MALT lymphoma of the kidney.

A primary mucosa associated lymphoid tissue tumor (MALT) of the kidney in a 50-year-old man who suffered from on therapy resistant high blood pressure over 15 years period is presented. A mass in the right kidney (6x5x3 cm) during routine check up was discovered on ultrasonography and confirmed on CT scan and NMR. The patient was submitted to nephrectomy. A mass involving kidney, pyelon and upper part of the ureter was found. Histology showed low grade non-Hodgkin B-cell lymphoma of MALT type. The neoplastic cells were positive for monoclonal antibodies CD20, CD79alpha, surface and cytoplasmic and IgM immunoglobulins and showed light chain restriction (kappa+). After histology was available, a careful staging was performed. The disease was not found anywhere else. It was concluded that the patient belonged to the stage IE of primary kidney MALT lymphoma. Gastroscopy showed signs of chronic superficial gastritis. Urease test was positive and IgG antibodies against Helicobacter pylori in titer 421 were found as well. Except for Helicobacter pylori no additional therapy was given.

Building of the System of biomedical scientific information of Yugoslavia (SBMSI YU) began, by the end of 1980, and the system became operative officially in 1986. After the political disintegration of former Yugoslavia SBMSI of Serbia was formed. SBMSI is developed according to the policy of developing of the System of scientific technologic information of Serbia (SSTI S), and with technical support of SSTI S. Reconstruction of the System is done by using former SBMSI YU as a model. Unlike the former SBMSI YU, SBMSI S owns besides the database Biomedicina Serbica, three important databases: database of doctoral dissertations promoted at University Medical School in Belgrade in the period from 1955-1993, database of Master's theses promoted at the University School of Medicine in Belgrade from 1965-1993; A database of foreign biomedical periodicals in libraries of Serbia.

[The extent of usage and the structure of users of the system for biomedical scientific information of Serbia]. / Obim i struktura korisnika sistema biomedicinskih naucnih informacija u Srbiji.

The aim of this work is to evaluate the extent of usage of the System for BMSI and the profile of users, as well as to compare the results with data from the previous period. Information were gathered from the request forms for searching databases, filled out by the users. In the 4-year period (1990-1993) 1640 searches were carried out, 870 for women and 770 for men. There were 1301 users from Belgrade and 339 from outside Belgrade. Compared with the previous period (1988-1989), the usage of biomedical databases increased remarkably (58%) and played a major role in the research of scientific workers in Serbia, especially considering serious deficit of contemporary periodicals.

This paper presents the most frequently used terms in the field of informatics and computer applications in medicine and health care. Out of over 4,000 terms that are frequently used in computer science and allied fields, we have chosen only 108. The criteria has been their usage in this Supplement and better understanding of the presented papers. Each term has its Serbian translation, original English term and short explanation. At the end of the paper is an English - Serbian register and a survey of computer's and informatic's glossaries.

[The organized teaching of biomedical scientific informatics at medical schools in Serbia]. / Organizovani oblici nastave biomedicinske naucne informatike na medicinskim fakultetima u Srbiji.

Young experts and scientific workers make contact with their profession and science by collecting and elaborating data, and by choosing and defining scientific problem. So, such men are in the process, one needs not only great knowledge, but remarkable experience. How to achieve such goals without wasting time on studing certain health problem independently? This can be done by using organised education processes and knowledge and experience of others. Considering the fact that scientific research begins relatively late (about 30 years of age), the needs are determined, on which the educational program is based, by inquiring listeners and analysing tests. The program should make the students capable of improving themselves independently in the future.
