RESUMO

Green inhibitors are an important way to decrease the corrosion rate of different industrial metals. The present work shows the corrosion behavior of the mild steel medium (MS) in hydrochloric acid 1 M by the aqueous extract of Artemisia Herba Alba (AHA), which is an green sustainable inhibitor to reduce its corrosive action by exploiting a variety of techniques and methods namely: Weight loss, electrochemical techniques [electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization (PDP], SEM-EDX, XPS and theoretical calculations for the majority molecule. Hydrodistillation is the extraction method that has been used to prepare the aqueous extracts. Otherwise, phytochemical screening characterization of different parts of the plant was applied to show the proportions of chemical compounds that exist in the plants. The highest inhibition efficiency obtained is 92% for 0.4 g/L of AHA aqueous extract in 1 M HCl at 303 K. PDP study confirmed that the AHA extract is of mixed-kind inhibitor. A CPE, Q determined by fit and graphical methods plotted by synthetic data, was utilized. To characterize the mild steel surface, scanning electron microscopy was also used; SEM/EDX allowed the investigation of the AHA effect on the surface of mild steel specimens. To comprehend the adsorption mechanism of AHA extract for MS in the 1 M HCl, XPS technique was accomplished. Theoretical approaches based on chemical quantum calculations and molecular dynamics simulation clearly explains the mode of adsorption of the majority molecule on the iron surface.

RESUMO

Primitive internal hernias are a rare cause of intestinal obstruction. They are often paraduodenal even transmesocolic, but only rarely transomental. We present a rare case of an internal abdominal hernia in a young man. The small bowel was strangulated by an intra mesenteric appendicitis. This hernia was revealed by abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. Plain X-ray of the abdomen showed dilated jejunal and ileal loops with multiple air-fluid levels. The diagnosis of appendicitis was suggested by ultrasound but the internal hernia was found only upon surgical exploration. An appendicectomy and adhesiolysis were performed. The patient recovered fully after 3 days, and had an uneventful postoperative course. The authors discuss the possible cause of this rare intestinal obstruction.

RESUMO

Internal hernias, including paraduodenal (traditionally the most common), pericecal, foramen of Winslow, and intersigmoid hernias, account for approximately 0.5-5.8% of all cases of intestinal obstruction and are associated with a high mortality rate, exceeding 50% in some series. We report an extremely rare case of an internal abdominal hernia, through the right mesocolon, in a young woman with a right colon with no peritoneal fixation. This hernia was revealing by abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. The diagnosis of internal hernia was suggested by computed tomography (CT), but the exact type of internal hernia was confirmed by surgical exploration. The postoperative course was uneventful and the patient fully recovered after 3 days. The patient is free from symptoms and from recurrence, after 12 months of follow-up.

RESUMO

Sigmoid volvulus complicating pregnancy is a rare complication with less than 80 cases reported in literature. We report the case of a young pregnant woman, admitted for sigmoid volvulus. The sigmoid volvulus was resected and Bouilly-Volkmann's colostomy was performed. According to this case and depending on the literature, the authors discuss the diagnostic and therapeutic modalities proposed for this rare entity.

RESUMO

Mucocele of the appendix secondary to appendicular carcinoid tumour is a rare entity. It occurs exceptionally during pregnancy. The interaction between carcinoid tumour or mucocele of the appendix and pregnancy is not yet elucidated. Prognosis depends on the size of the carcinoid tumour and its regional invasion. We report a case of appendicular mucocele caused by a carcinoid tumour in a 36-year-old pregnant woman who had been admitted because of acute appendicitis. Pathological examination of the appendicectomy specimen revealed a carcinoid tumour measuring 2 cm. Right hemicolectomy was performed two weeks after delivery with good evolution. According to this case and depending on the literature, the authors discuss the diagnosis and the therapeutic modalities proposed for this rare entity.

RESUMO

Leiomyosarcomas of diaphragm are exceptional. Since 1935 only eight cases have been published. We report a new case of a 18-year-old man who consulted for an abdominal mass. Ultrasonography revealed a kystic and septated mass measuring 157 mm of diameter. Tomodensitometry showed a sus-mesocolic and voluminous left tumoral mass wish was widely necrosed. The mass was displacing the stomach on the right. A widely surgical resection of tumour was performed. Diagnosis of leiomyosarcoma of diaphragm was performed by pathological study. The outcome was marked by tumour recurrence three months later. The patient died after six months. The review of literature show that prognosis of diaphragmatic leiomyosarcomas is poor.

RESUMO

The hydatid cyst of the adrenal gland is still an exceptional localization. Only eleven cases have been described in the literature. A new case of isolate suprarenal hydatidosis is reported in one 28 years old patient, that the signs consisted in pains of the right flank and vomiting. The diagnosis has been based on the imagery, particularly the computed tomography associated to the hydatid serology, confirmed during the operation and by the pathologic examination of the resected piece. The treatment consisted in a simple cystectomy with conservancy of the gland, the operative sequelae have been simple. The interest of this cases lies in the rare feature of this hydatid localization that the diagnosis is difficult. Among the various suggested surgical methods, the simple resection of the cyst is still the best treatment that permits to keep the gland.
