RESUMO

We present a gram-scale synthesis of metallodielectric Janus matchsticks, which feature a gold-coated silica sphere and a silica rod. SiO2 Janus matchsticks are synthesized in one batch by growing amine-functionalized SiO2 spheres at the end of SiO2 rods. Gold deposition on the spheres produces Au-SiO2 Janus matchsticks with an aspect ratio controlled by the rod length. The metallodielectric Janus matchsticks, produced by scalable colloidal synthesis, hold great potential as functional colloidal materials.

RESUMO

Efficient and robust electrochemiluminescence (ECL) emitters are crucial for enhancing the ECL immunosensor sensitivity. This study introduces a novel ECL emitter, CoBIM/Cys, featuring a hierarchical core-shell structure. The core of the structure is created through the swift coordination between the sulfhydryl and carboxyl groups of l-cysteine (l-Cys) and cobalt ions (Co2+), while the shell is constructed by sequentially coordinating benzimidazole (BIM) with Co2+. This design yields a greater specific surface area and a more intricate porous structure compared to CoBIM, markedly enhancing mass transfer and luminophore accessibility. Moreover, the l-Cys and Co2+ core introduces Co-S and Co-O catalytic sites, which improve the catalytic decomposition of H2O2, leading to an increased production of hydroperoxyl radicals (OOH•). This mechanism substantially amplifies the ECL performance. Leveraging the competitive interaction between isoluminol and BIM for OOH• during ECL emission, we developed a ratiometric immunosensor for cardiac troponin I (cTnI) detection. This immunosensor demonstrates a remarkably broad detection range (1 pg mL-1 to 10 ng mL-1), a low detection limit (0.4 pg mL-1), and exceptional reproducibility and specificity.

RESUMO

Precise tuning the structure of catalytic center is of great importance for the construction of enhanced electrochemiluminescence (ECL) emitters and the development of ECL amplification strategies, which is a key factor in improving the sensitivity of biosensors. In this work, we report the enhanced ECL emitters based on the porphyrin-based paddlewheel framework (PPF) with axial coordinated imidazole-like ligands (PPF/X, X = 2-methylimidazole (MeIm), imidazole (Im), benzimidazole (BIM)). In this system, the electron-donating ability of the axial ligands is positively correlated to its coordination ability to the paddlewheel units and the catalytic ability of the axially coordinated paddlewheel units. In addition, the electrochemical and ECL behavior of PPF/X (X = MeIm, Im, BIM) with different axial coordinated ligands are explored.

RESUMO

Selective and sensitive detection of nitrite has important medical and biological implications. In the present work, to obtain an enhanced electrochemiluminescence (ECL) determination of nitrite, a novel nano-ECL emitter CoBIM/cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) was prepared via a micelle-assisted, energy-saving, and ecofriendly method based on benzimidazole (BIM) and CTAB. Unlike conventional micelle assistance, the deprotonated BIM (BIM-) preferential placement was in the palisade layer of cationic CTAB-based micelles. Enriching the original CTAB micelle with BIM- disrupted its stability and resulted in the formation of considerably smaller BIM/CTAB-based micelles, providing a confined coordination environment for BIM- and Co2+. As a result, the growth of CoBIM/CTAB was also limited. Owing to the unusual nitration reaction between BIM and nitrite, the prepared CoBIM/CTAB was successfully applied as a novel ECL probe for the detection of nitrite with a wide linear range of 1-1500 µM and a low detection limit of 0.67 µM. This work also provides a promising ECL platform for ultrasensitive monitoring of nitrite and it was applied with sausages and pickled vegetables.

RESUMO

Non-targeted analysis (NTA) has great potential to screen emerging contaminants in the environment, and some studies have conducted in-depth investigation on environmental samples. Here, we used a NTA workflow to identify emerging contaminants in used tire particle (TP) leachates, followed by quantitative prediction and toxicity assessment based on hazard scores. Tire particles were obtained from four different types of automobiles, representing the most common tires during daily transportation. With the instrumental analysis of TP leachates, a total of 244 positive and 104 negative molecular features were extracted from the mass data. After filtering by a specialized emerging contaminants list and matching by spectral databases, a total of 51 molecular features were tentatively identified as contaminants, including benzothiazole, hexaethylene glycol, 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde, etc. Given that these contaminants have different mass spectral responses in the mass spectrometry, models for predicting the response of contaminants were constructed based on machine learning algorithms, in this case random forest and artificial neural networks. After five-fold cross-validation, the random forest algorithm model had better prediction performance (MAECV = 0.12, Q2 = 0.90), and thus it was chosen to predict the contaminant concentrations. The prediction results showed that the contaminant at the highest concentration was benzothiazole, with 4,875 µg/L in the winter tire sample. In addition, the joint toxicity assessment of four types of tires was conducted in this study. According to different hazard levels, hazard scores increasing by a factor 10 were developed, and hazard scores of all the contaminants identified in each TP leachate were summed to obtain the total hazard score. All four tires were calculated to have relatively high risks, with winter tires having the highest total hazard score of 40,751. This study extended the application of NTA research and led to the direction of subsequent targeting studies on highly concentrated and toxic contaminants.

RESUMO

Background: Observational studies have indicated an association between polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and chronic pain, but the potential causal link remains controversial. Here, we aimed to investigate whether a causal relationship exists between the concentration of circulating PUFAs and chronic pain as well as the direction of this association. Methods: We collected statistical data from relevant genome-wide association studies to explore the causal link between four PUFAs, along with the ratio of omega-6 fatty acids (FAs) to omega-3 FAs (omega-6:3 ratio), and chronic pain in eight specific body parts. We used the inverse-variance weighting (IVW) method for two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis and conducted supplementary analyses using four other methods (MR-Egger, weighted median, weighted mode, and simple mode). To verify the robustness of the MR study, we performed multiple sensitivity analyses. Results: The results revealed a negative correlation between omega-3 FAs [IVW, OR 95% CI: 0.952 (0.914, 0.991), p = 0.017] and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) [IVW, OR 95% CI: 0.935 (0.893, 0.978), p = 0.003] with abnormal and pelvic pain. Furthermore, a positive correlation was observed between the omega-6:3 ratio [IVW, OR 95% CI: 1.057 (1.014, 1.101), p = 0.009] with abdominal and pelvic pain. Additionally, we found a negative correlation between omega-3 FAs [IVW, OR 95% CI: 0.947 (0.902, 0.994), p = 0.028] and lower back pain or sciatica. However, no causal relationship was found between the concentration of circulating PUFAs and pain in other body parts, including the face, throat and chest, joints, limbs, lower back, and gynecological parts. The robustness of these MR results was verified through multi-validity and retention method analyses. Conclusion: Our analysis suggests that higher circulating concentrations of omega-3 FAs and DHA and a lower omega-6:3 ratio are associated with a reduced risk of abdominal and pelvic pain. Additionally, a higher concentration of circulating omega-3 FAs is linked to a reduced risk of lower back pain and/or sciatica. These findings have major implications for the targeted prevention and treatment of chronic pain using PUFAs.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Observational studies have revealed relationships between circulating vitamin D concentrations and the risk of different types of cancer, although the potential causal relationship remains controversial. This study aims to investigate the presence of a causal relationship between circulating vitamin D concentrations and the risk of different types of cancer. METHODS: Summary statistics from corresponding genome-wide association studies (GWASs) were used to investigate the causal relationship between circulating vitamin D concentrations and the risk of 14 cancers. A two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis using inverse-variance weighting (IVW) as the primary method was performed. Additionally, the results were verified using four other methods, including MR-Egger, weighted median, weighted mode, and simple mode. Multiple sensitivity analyses were conducted to ensure the robustness of our MR findings. RESULTS: The MR analysis showed no causal relationship between circulating vitamin D concentrations and most types of cancer, except for a causal relationship with melanoma skin cancer (MSC) (odds ratio [OR]IVW = 1.003, 95% confidence intervals [CI] 1.001-1.005, P = 0.004). Conversely, reverse MR revealed a causal relationship between circulating vitamin D concentration and colorectal cancer (ORIVW = 0.398, 95% CI 0.195-0.813, P = 0.01; ORweighted median = 0.352, 95% CI 0.135-0.917, P = 0.03). CONCLUSIONS: Our findings provide support for a causal relationship between circulating vitamin D concentration and risk of MSC. Additionally, we found a causal relationship between circulating vitamin D concentration and risk of colorectal cancer in reverse-MR analysis. This evidence indicate that vitamin D is of great significance in the prevention and treatment of MSC and the prognosis of colorectal cancer.

RESUMO

One ultimate goal of visual neuroscience is to understand how the brain processes visual stimuli encountered in the natural environment. Achieving this goal requires records of brain responses under massive amounts of naturalistic stimuli. Although the scientific community has put a lot of effort into collecting large-scale functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data under naturalistic stimuli, more naturalistic fMRI datasets are still urgently needed. We present here the Natural Object Dataset (NOD), a large-scale fMRI dataset containing responses to 57,120 naturalistic images from 30 participants. NOD strives for a balance between sampling variation between individuals and sampling variation between stimuli. This enables NOD to be utilized not only for determining whether an observation is generalizable across many individuals, but also for testing whether a response pattern is generalized to a variety of naturalistic stimuli. We anticipate that the NOD together with existing naturalistic neuroimaging datasets will serve as a new impetus for our understanding of the visual processing of naturalistic stimuli.

RESUMO

Human action recognition is a critical capability for our survival, allowing us to interact easily with the environment and others in everyday life. Although the neural basis of action recognition has been widely studied using a few action categories from simple contexts as stimuli, how the human brain recognizes diverse human actions in real-world environments still needs to be explored. Here, we present the Human Action Dataset (HAD), a large-scale functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) dataset for human action recognition. HAD contains fMRI responses to 21,600 video clips from 30 participants. The video clips encompass 180 human action categories and offer a comprehensive coverage of complex activities in daily life. We demonstrate that the data are reliable within and across participants and, notably, capture rich representation information of the observed human actions. This extensive dataset, with its vast number of action categories and exemplars, has the potential to deepen our understanding of human action recognition in natural environments.

RESUMO

The incorporation of plasmonic metals into semiconductors forming heterojunction photocatalysts is a promising route to enhance the photocatalytic performance in visible light. In this work, we reported the visible-light-driven one-dimensional (1D) nanostick silver/silver sulfide (Ag/Ag2S) photocatalyst combining with two-dimensional (2D) nanosheet reduced graphene oxide intersected by hollow structure (h-RGO) was prepared via a feasible approach at room temperature. The density of Ag depositing on the surface of Ag2S was easily tuned by the concentration of sodium borohydride and the silicon dioxide nanospheres were employed as templates in the preparation of h-RGO by the layer-by-layer (LBL) assembly. The ternary plasmonic Ag/Ag2S/h-RGO photocatalysts exhibited better photocatalytic performance for degradation of naphthalene (95.95%) and 1-naphthol (98.65%) under visible light than the pure Ag2S, composite Ag/Ag2S and composite Ag/Ag2S/RGO. Localized surface plasmon resonance of Ag, heterojunction formed between Ag/Ag2S and RGO and the unique characteristics of h-RGO, which included higher specific surface areas, more efficient reflections of light and more active sites than RGO for boosting separation efficiency of charge carriers, were all responsible for such enhancement. By combining the characterization results with various computations, the mechanism, potential degradation pathways and the toxicity of the generated intermediates for photodegradation were examined. In addition to offering profound insight into the expansion of effective plasmonic photocatalysts with novel structures, the current study is beneficial to ease the environmental crisis to a certain extent.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the effect of buccal fat pad transplantation in front of the aponeurosis to correct Asian upper eyelid depression. METHODS: Eighty-five individuals who were treated with buccal fat pad transplantation were recruited for this study. The upper eyelid depression data were collected before and after treatment, and the aesthetic outcomes were assessed using the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS) and the Likert scale. RESULTS: All patients obtained natural-looking eyelids, and the sunken contour deformity improved. The mean preoperative sunken depth was 6.7±1.0 mm (4-12 mm), and the mean sunken depth at the last follow-up was 4.2±0.9 mm (2-6 mm) (P <0.05). The visual analogue scale score was 2.12±1.75 (1-4) in the immediate postoperative period. The GAIS scores were satisfactory (very much improved, 89.4%; much improved, 7.1%; and improved, 3.5%). According to the Likert scale scores, all patients were satisfied with the clinical outcomes (excellent, 87.1%; very good, 9.4%; and good, 3.5%). A 'fair' or 'poor' result was not reported by any patient. CONCLUSION: Buccal fat pad transplantation corrects upper eyelid depression in a simple, safe, and effective manner and can efficiently fill the depressed portion and restore a beautiful double eyelid. RESUMO

Exploring the depolymerization strategy of liposoluble luminophores in the aqueous phase is vital for the development of electrochemiluminescence (ECL). In this work, tetraoctylammonium bromide (TOAB) with four long hydrophobic chains and short hydrophilic ends is used as a template to limit the aggregation of benzimidazole (BIM). By adjusting the loading of BIM on the hydrophobic chains of TOAB, a two-dimensional lamellar BIM/TOAB is formed, the ECL intensity of which is 6.4 times higher than that of the aggregated BIM (H2O2 as the coreactant). In terms of ECL spectroscopies, cyclic voltammetry , ECL transients, and the adjustment of the scanning potential range, the ECL mechanism is thoroughly studied. This work provides a new way to depolymerize organic luminophores and reveals a possible pathway in the annihilation ECL mechanism.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The number of patients undergoing buttock augmentation surgery has increased rapidly with time, changes in people's aesthetic perceptions, and the increased concern for their shape. The number of publications regarding buttock augmentation has also continued to increase. However, no bibliometric analysis concerning buttock augmentation has been published. This study aimed to provide a qualitative and quantitative evaluation of buttock augmentation-related publications using bibliometric analysis and information on research hotspots and trends in this field. METHODS: The buttock augmentation-related publications published between 1999 and 2021 were extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) database for analysis. The data were analysed and presented using VOSviewer and Microsoft Excel. RESULTS: There were 492 articles in the (WOSCC) database, including 442 (89.84%) original research articles, with the number of publications increasing each year. The USA (208 publications, 42.28%) is the leading contributor in this field and has a high academic reputation. The most productive and co-cited journal on this subject is "Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery" (66 publications, 13.41%, 2200 citations). Cardenas-Camarena (9 publications, 1.83%, 158 citations) was the most published and co-cited author. Research hotspots include the following three topics: experience and technology of buttock augmentation, autologous fat buttock augmentation and its safety, and buttock aesthetics study. There will be more publications in the future, and research trends will focus on silicone implants, safety, satisfaction, and autologous fat grafting. CONCLUSION: Buttock augmentation research is rapidly evolving, and this study provides a perspective view of buttock augmentation research in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE III: This journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. RESUMO

The effect of potassium ferrate (PF) and straw fiber (SF) on the strength of cement-based solidified municipal sludge, including the influence of reducing the organic matter in the sludge on the efficiency of the hydration of the cement, was studied. Single-factor tests, orthogonal tests, and linear weighted optimization methods were used to obtain suitable ratios to meet practical requirements, and then SEM and XRD analyses were used to explore the solidification mechanism. The results showed that PF and SF had significant influence on the strength, with SF having the greatest influence and the strength increasing with the amount of both admixtures, and cement had no significant influence on the strength. After linear weighting optimization, the ideal dosage was found to be 20% cement, 20% PF, and 5% SF, which produced a solidified sludge that had an strength of 126.87 kPa, far higher than the 50 kPa required to qualify for disposal in landfills. Analysis of the mineral content and microstructure showed that PF and SF could promote cement hydration and produce more hydration products, and the density of the optimized sample was much higher than that of the raw sludge and a sludge sample mixed with 20% cement alone.

RESUMO

We have developed a rapid and specific method for site-specific 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) quantification at single-base resolution. This bisulfite-free method integrates the peroxotungstate oxidization with the mismatched probe-assisted ligation to guarantee the specificity. Moreover, the high-efficiency LAMP also makes the proposed method suitable for the detection of low-content samples.

RESUMO

Naturalistic stimuli, such as movies, are being increasingly used to map brain function because of their high ecological validity. The pioneering studyforrest and other naturalistic neuroimaging projects have provided free access to multiple movie-watching functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) datasets to prompt the community for naturalistic experimental paradigms. However, sluggish blood-oxygenation-level-dependent fMRI signals are incapable of resolving neuronal activity with the temporal resolution at which it unfolds. Instead, magnetoencephalography (MEG) measures changes in the magnetic field produced by neuronal activity and is able to capture rich dynamics of the brain at the millisecond level while watching naturalistic movies. Herein, we present the first public prolonged MEG dataset collected from 11 participants while watching the 2 h long audio-visual movie "Forrest Gump". Minimally preprocessed data was also provided to facilitate the use of the dataset. As a studyforrest extension, we envision that this dataset, together with fMRI data from the studyforrest project, will serve as a foundation for exploring the neural dynamics of various cognitive functions in real-world contexts.

RESUMO

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by memory impairment and cognitive decline. The obvious pathological features of AD are still amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles. Development of disease-modifying treatments for AD has been challenging, with almost all drugs aborted. The amyloid cascade concept has been questioned due to the failures of various amyloid-targeting prospects. Despite this, targeting amyloid-ß (Aß) active immunotherapy provided some positive results to support this hypothesis and clinical trials of these candidates are ongoing. In this review, we describe the latest advance in therapeutic strategies based on amyloidogenic processing and evaluate the pros and cons of each treatment strategy. We also highlight the current status of the hottest immunotherapy and discuss the future development direction.

RESUMO

Visible light driven plasmonic Ag/Ag3PO4/g-C3N4 heterojunction nanocomposite with regular morphology was prepared via a modified facile method. The two-dimensional ultrathin g-C3N4 nanosheet is uniformly wrapped on the surface of Ag3PO4 nanopolyhedron. A charge transfer bridge was built between Ag3PO4 nanopolyhedron and g-C3N4 nanosheet due to the reduction of Ag nanoparticles. This structure can inhibit the recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs and promote the transfer of photogenerated carriers, so as to produce more active species for participating in the photocatalytic reaction. In addition, the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) of appropriate Ag nanoparticles enhanced the absorption and utilization of visible light. Compared with Ag3PO4 and Ag/Ag3PO4, Ag/Ag3PO4/g-C3N4 showed higher photocatalytic activity. Under visible light irradiation, the degradation rate of phenanthrene (PHE) was 0.01756 min-1, which was 3.14 times and 2.38 times that of Ag3PO4 and Ag/Ag3PO4, respectively. After four cycles of photocatalytic reaction, the Ag/Ag3PO4/g-C3N4 photocatalyst still maintained high photocatalytic activity. The active sites of PHE were predicted by Gaussian simulation calculation and combined with intermediate products identification of GC-MS, the possible degradation pathway of PHE was speculated. This research has reference significance for the construction of plasmonic heterojunction photocatalyst in the field of environmental pollution remediation.

RESUMO

Developing sheet-on-sheet (2D/2D) heterostructure with built-in electric field (BIEF) is effective in boosting the performance of photocatalysts for emerging contaminants degradation. Herein, the 2D/2D microtopography and (-)TiO2/(+)Bi2MoO6 BIEF were precisely integrated into hierarchical nanosheets, which can provide the basis and driving force for charge transfer both in in-plane and interface of heterojunction. The prepared photocatalyst (TiO2/Bi2MoO6) showed high-efficiency and stable performance for photocatalytic amoxicillin (AMX) degradation, which was 18.2 and 5.7 times higher than TiO2 and Bi2MoO6, respectively. More importantly, TiO2/Bi2MoO6 showed more efficient photocatalytic activity and photogenerated charge separation than TiO2@Bi2MoO6 (different morphology). Besides, four possible pathways of AMX degradation were proposed depending on Gaussian calculations and intermediates analysis by GC-MS and HPLC-TOFMS. This work sheds light on the design and construction of unique 2D/2D heterostructure photocatalysts for AMX degradation.
