RESUMO

A green and sustainable -COOH & -OH condensation solution polymerization method was hereby reported for FDCA-based polyesters to avoid discoloration and toxic solvents. First, taking poly(ethylene 2,5-furandicarboxylate) (PEF) as the representative of FDCA-based polyester, enabling good white appearance PEF with Mn=6.51×103 g mol-1 from FDCA and ethylene glycol in green solvent γ-valerolactone (GVL), catalyzed by 4-dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP) and N-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-N'-ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride (EDC). Additionally, the molecular weight of PEF was rapidly improved (Mn >2.5×104 g mol-1) via remelting polycondensation within minutes, with the dispersity still kept relatively low dispersity (D<1.40). Importantly, the -COOH & -OH condensation solution polymerization method was successfully applied for the synthesis of various FDCA-based polyesters, including diols with varying carbon chain lengths (3 to 11 carbons) and cycloalkyl diols, especially the applicability of this method to diols containing C=C double bonds, which was found to exhibit low heat resistance. Lastly, assisting with 13C labeled 1,4-succinic acid and in-situ 13C-NMR, an in-depth study of the possible catalytic mechanism was proposed, by which, EDC activated FDCA, and then DMAP catalyzed it with diol to yield macromolecular chain of polyester. Overall, the results provided a green and sustainable strategy for the synthesis of FDCA-based polyesters.

RESUMO

We have numerically and experimentally presented the diffraction characteristics of radiated tilted fiber grating (RTFG) in terms of the spectrum, bandwidth, degree of polarization, angular dispersion, and temperature crosstalk. The theoretical and experimental results have shown that the polarization property, bandwidth, and dispersion of RTFG highly depended on the tilt angle of RTFG, and the RTFG has ultra-low temperature crosstalk. We have simulated the transmission spectrum of the RTFG with different tilt angles (25°, 31°, 38°, 45°, and 54°), in which the results show that the larger tilt angle has the wider bandwidth. The RTFGs with the tilt angle of 25°, 31°, 38°, 45°, and 54° have the 3dB bandwidth of 110 nm, 144 nm, 182 nm, 242 nm, and 301 nm, respectively. Besides, the degree of polarization (DOP) of the radiated light from RTFG with the different tilt angles are 0.876, 0.944, 0.967, 0.998, and 0.970, respectively, and the RTFG has the maximum DOP at the tilt angle of 45°, which could be used as single-polarization diffraction device. The experimental results show that with further increase or decrease of the tilt angle, the DOP of radiated light of RTFG would decrease. Both the theoretical and experimental results show that the smaller tilt angle could greatly improve the diffraction angular dispersion of RTFG, in which the 25°, 31°, 38°, and 45° RTFG have the angular dispersion of 0.2288 °/nm, 0.1026 °/nm, 0.0714 °/nm, and 0.0528 °/nm, respectively. Due to the broad working bandwidth, the diffraction angles of RTFG have ultra-low temperature crosstalk, where -0.00042, -0.00054, -0.00064, and -0.00099 degree / °C at the tilt angle of 25°, 31°, 38°, and 45°. Finally, we have demonstrated a miniaturized spectrometer integrated by a 25° RTFG, which has a high spectral resolution of 0.08 nm. The proposed RTFG would be an ideal in-fiber diffraction device and widely applied in spectral analysis, space optical communication, and Lidar areas.

RESUMO

In this Letter, we have proposed an in-fiber duplex optical antenna based on a 45° radiated titled fiber grating (RTFG), in which the 45° RTFG not only radiates the light from the fiber core to the free space, but also harvests the light from the free space back into the fiber core. Using the finite difference time domain method, we have theoretically analyzed the light recoupling efficiency of the RTFG. The simulated results have shown that the RTFG-based optical antennas have a maximum coupling efficiency of 10%. The recoupling wavelength and efficiency are related to the grating period and horizontal incidence angle. Furthermore, we demonstrate a programmable spectral filtering system based on the 45° RTFG antennas, which could achieve filtering with arbitrary spectral shapes. The spectral resolution is 0.4 nm and the insertion loss is around 20 dB. The proposed programmable spectral filtering system has a compact structure compared with the traditional filter.

RESUMO

The asymmetric reduction of aromatic α-dehydroamino acid esters with water as the hydrogen source was developed by a Rh/Cu co-catalytic system. The reaction tolerates various functional groups, providing a valuable synthetic tool to access chiral α-amino acid esters readily. Moreover, the present methodology also was applied in the cost-effective and easy to handle preparation of chiral deuterated α-amino esters by using D2O.

RESUMO

An efficient method for the synthesis of N-aryl carbamates from N-Boc-protected amines has been developed. The cobalt-catalyzed in situ generation of isocyanates from N-Boc-protected amines and benzyl alcohols from benzyl formates has been achieved for the first time, which in turn furnished the corresponding benzyl carbamates in moderate to high yields. The reaction was catalyzed by CoI2 with tris-(4-dimethylaminophenyl)-phosphine as the ligand and zinc powder as the reductant. The developed reaction conditions were found to be compatible for aromatic amines with both electron-donating and -withdrawing substituents.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: On the basis of the principle of selective photothermolysis, laser therapy has been the most effective treatment strategy for Port-wine stains (PWSs) caused by the expansion of dermal capillaries. Neodymium:Yttrium Aluminum Garnet (Nd:YAG) laser at 1064 nm wavelength has great potential for deeply buried PWS, although its application is limited because of its weak absorption by blood. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of PEG-modified gold nanorods (NRs) on the blood absorption enhancement for Nd:YAG laser. MATERIALS AND METHODS: PEG-modified gold nanorods (NRs) were synthesized via the seeded growth method. Then, the effect of PEG-modified gold NRs on blood light absorbance was investigated through adding different concentration of PEG-modified gold NRs to 1 ml of blood at room temperature. Finally, the optical properties of whole mice blood with or without PEG-modified gold NRs under slow heating were investigated. RESULTS: The average length and width of PEG-modified gold NRs are 79.5 ± 10.5 and 13.5 ± 0.9 nm, respectively, with the aspect ratio of 5.89, and a strong absorption peak exists at ∼1050 nm in the near-infrared range. A linear correlation between the blood absorbance at 1064 nm and the amount of PEG-modified gold NRs was obtained. The absorbance at 1064 nm increased 17.6, 33.0, 48.3, and 65.4 times when 0.4, 0.8, 1.2, and 1.6 mg of PEG-modified gold NRs was added to 1 ml of blood at room temperature, respectively. After adding 0.8 mg of PEG-modified gold NRs to 1 ml of blood, blood absorbance at 1064 nm at different temperatures increased by an average of 24.0 times. After intravenously injecting PEG-modified gold NRs (0.87 mg/ml) into Sprague-Dawley mice, the blood absorbance at 1064 nm increased from 0.014 to 0.5. CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that PEG-modified gold NRs injection is an efficient way to enhance light absorption by blood to Nd:YAG laser. Lasers Surg.
