[Lesions of the ulnar collateral ligament of the metacarpo-phalangeal joint of the thumb: anatomic study and classification]. / Le lesioni del comparto legamentoso ulnare della metacarpo-falangea del pollice: studio anatomico e classificazione.

The collateral ulnar ligament of the first metacarpo-phalangeal joint was studies in anatomical specimens in order to evaluate the relationship between pathological anatomy of the lesion and joint laxity. The clinical and X-ray evaluation of the valgus stretched joint led to the correct indications for treatment.

The authors report 40 cases of lesions of the ulnar part of the first metacarpo-phalangeal joint. In their experience only the main collateral ligament's lesions (alone or associated) need a surgical treatment. Only a correct diagnosis and early treatment lead to a complete functional recovery.

Trans-scapho-capitate perilunar dislocation of the carpus.

Trans-scapho-capitate perilunar dislocation of the carpus is a rare variety of perilunar dislocation. The characteristic feature of this lesion is that the head of the capitate is rotated 180 degrees. The capitate fracture occurs at the neck level and when the body is displaced dorsally with the perilunar dislocation, the unsupported head cannot remain in anatomical relationship with the lunate and thus rotates on itself. The authors report a case that was treated by conservative reduction, the result of which was far from satisfactory. They therefore advise that this lesion should be treated by immediate open reduction with osteosynthesis of the scaphoid.
