RESUMO

Many methods of superimposition exist and vary according to selected reference landmarks. Basal and alveolar structures are not easily dissociable, the results of the growth and the therapeutic effects strongly overlapping. The method of superimposition the authors propose eliminates the overall effects of growth, showing only the therapeutic effects.

RESUMO

Arch wires used in orthodontic treatment must conform to the shape of the dental arches so that in their final positions teeth will be set in a pathway of neuromuscular equilibrium. However, sometimes distortions of the alveoli deform the shape of the arch. In such cases the treatment charts constructed on the actual alveolo-dental relationship will not reflect desired objectives. We believe that the transverse muco-gingival dimension Andrews called the Wala line responds better to therapeutic requirements. Moreover, molar attachments, key elements of a full-banded appliance, are in harmony with it. So the type of chart that the authors propose for use with the Straight Wire technique, one based on the Wala line, will help orthodontists place teeth at the conclusion of orthodontic treatment in the best possible relationships to patients' specific anatomic configurations.

RESUMO

At the commencement of multi-banded orthodontic treatment, clinicians are frequently confronted with the problem of incisal overbite. To deal with it, they must make a precise diagnosis of this anomaly's etiology. However, whatever therapeutic approach is employed, overbite must be reduced and the curve of Spee has to be levelled. In many circumstances, by using an incisal bite plate hooked onto the upper molar bands, practitioners can carry out and control this levelling quickly, simply, and effectively in all planes of space. This type of auxiliary can be fixed or removable, and can be used in conjunction with many different fixed techniques.

RESUMO

Laude and the Lille orthodontic department describe the trigeminal nerve as the main architect of the face. Using the points where it emerges into the cranium, the authors propose an analysis, which they base on four concepts: --the stability of the pterygoid base, --the interaction between two activities, prehensile and masticatory, of the oral cavity, --the cranio-mandibular entity, --the importance of the paired fifth cranial nerve. This study deals with vertical dimension of both alveolar and basal bone, as well as global, ramal, and maxillary growth directions, which they conceptualize as three parallel, convergent, or divergent lines. This analysis can be carried out quickly and easily because it requires only four simple measurements.

RESUMO

The cephalometric architectural analysis method, that the authors present, has primarily an orthodontic aim. As any architectural analysis, it is mainly visual and does not comprise practically any measurement. It is based on the principle that the cranio-facial pattern is built according to the trigeminal nerves axes. This analysis also answers to the concept of arch segmentation, differentiating the gripping organ from the chewing organ.
