RESUMO

AIM: The aim of our investigation was to analyse the results of treatment of patients with atherosclerotic lesions of the femoropopliteal segment by means of femoropopliteal bypass grafting or loop endarterectomy within the framework of a single-centre retrospective study. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The study included a total of 177 patients who were divided into two groups. Group One was composed of 108 patients subjected to loop endarterectomy from the arteries of the femoropopliteal segment, and Group Two comprised 69 patients who endured femoropopliteal bypass surgery using a synthetic graft. RESULTS: Thoroughly analysed were the clinical, demographic, anatomical and perioperative data, as well as intra- and perioperative complications, followed by assessment of primary and secondary patency, with no statistically significant differences in these parameters revealed. Secondary patency was somewhat better in the group of loop endarterectomy. Also determined and examined were specific complications such as insufficient extraction of the plaque, perforation of the artery with the loop, thinning of the wall, detachment of the calcified plaque. This is followed by discussing variants of correction of similar events. In the group of loop endarterectomy, there were no severe complications, such as myocardial infarction, stroke, amputation in the early postoperative period. CONCLUSION: Loop endarterectomy is an acceptable alternative to femoropopliteal bypass grafting with a synthetic prosthesis. Taking into account all specific complications, it is possible to achieve minimization of unsuccessful outcomes.

RESUMO

Presented in the article is a clinical case report regarding successful treatment of a patient with infection of a vascular graft after bifurcation aortofemoral bypass grafting by means of partial removal of the graft's branch with extra-anatomical graft-to-femur prosthetic repair through the iliac wing. The patient was admitted 6 months after bifurcation aortofemoral bypass grafting with a purulent and ligature fistula, discharge in the inguinal area. The findings of computed tomography showed no infection of the central anastomosis in the retroperitoneal space, with however periprosthetic infection in the area of the distal branch and severe comorbid background, thus not allowing complete removal of the prosthesis. A decision was made to perform operation in the scope of resection of the graft's branch, with extra-anatomical bypass grafting through a hole created in the iliac wing and debridement of the wound in the groin. In the postoperative period, no lower limb ischemia was observed, with blood circulation compensated completely. The patient was discharged in a satisfactory condition on POD 64 with no signs of either local or systemic infection.

RESUMO

The method of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to study the concentration of interleukins (OL)-6, 10, C-reactive protein (CRP) in blood serum of 61 patients presenting with atherosclerotic lesions of carotid arteries (CA). The obtained findings were compared with the morphological peculiarities of the biopsy materials of the atherosclerotic plaques (ASP) obtained while carrying out carotid endarterectomy (CEA). An increased concentration of IL-6 and CRP in blood serum of patients with unstable ASPs was revealed. It was shown that measuring cytokines and CRP in blood serum may be used as an additional method for diagnosis of unstable nature of ASP in the CAs in order to determine the indications for carotid endarterectomy.

RESUMO

For the first time there were revealed man-attacking Culex pipiens molestus breeding in the basements of residential houses with an impaired water-supply in the town of Pechora. The fact evidenced the continuing penetration of these posquitos to the north of the European part of the USSR.

RESUMO

New data on morphology and differential diagnosis of adults (variability of the pattern of mesonotum and wings, difference from all other species of the cantans group of the Palaearctic fauna by the spot of the scales on the mesepimeron reaching its lower edge, difference of its male genitalia from those of Ae. montchadskyi Dub.), biology (period of activity and predomination indices of the females attacking man, breeding places and period of occurrence of preimaginal phases in the south of the East Transbaikalia and Krasnoyarsk Region), and geographical distribution (from the Tuva ASSR and south of Krasnoyarsk Region in the west to the south of the Chita Region in the east, misidentification in East Kazakhstan, confinement of the range to the Mongolian district of the Kazakhstan-Mongolian province of the Central Asian subregion of the Holarctic that suggests that the main part of its distribution range is situated in Mongolia) are given for the recently described species of mosquitoes, Aedes sergievi Danilov, Markovich et Proskuryakova, 1978 from the south of East Siberia.

RESUMO

Two species of the subgenus Edwardsaedes, Ae. (Edw.) pingpaensis Chang and Ae. (Edw.) bekkui Mogi, are spread in the Palaearctic region, the first one being known from China only and the second one from Japan and South Primorye, USSR. The name Ae. (Edw.) antuensis Su, Wang et Li, 1965 should be considered as a synonym of Ae. (Edw.) pingpaensis Chang, 1965; the larva of Ae. (Ochlerotatus) sticticus Mg. has been erroneously described by Su et al. (1978) as larva of Ae. antuensis. The differential diagnosis of the females, male genitalia, and larvae of mosquitoes Ae. pingpaensis and Ae. bekkui, is given. The description of the fourth stage larva of Ae. bekkui from the South Primorye is presented for the first time in the home literature.

RESUMO

A description of female and male genitalia of a mosquito species new for the fauna of the USSR, Culiseta (Culicella) nipponica La Casse et Yamaguti, is given. C. nipponica formerly known from Japan and South Korea was found in the south of the Primorye region.

RESUMO

The specific composition and the nature of domination of bloodsucking mosquitoes from the Charskaya hollow were studied. The abundance dynamics of attacking females was registered by means of Berezantzev's bell. Data were obtained on the hatching sites of mosquitoes and peculiarities of seasonal adaptation of some species in connection with the availability of various landscapes with different microclimatic conditions.

RESUMO

The description of female, male and 4th stage larva of a new species of mosquito, Aedes (Stegomyia) sibiricus, from Siberia and Far East of the USSR is given. This species belonging to the albopictus subgroup of the scutellaris group of species was formerly confused with A. (S.) galloisi Yam. The geographical distribution of A. sibiricus is related to the south of the East taiga and Okhotsk districts of the Euro-Siberian province of the Circumboreal subregion of the Palearctic, while A. galloisi is spread in the Chinese-Himalayan subregion and has been recorded in the Soviet Union from the Sakhalin Island only (the geographical distribution of this species is shown on a map).

RESUMO

The description of female, male genitalia and the fourth instar larva of a new species of mosquito, A. (O.) sergievi, from the Tuva ASSR (South Siberia) is given as well as data on its breeding places. It belongs to spring and early summer species and breeds both in fresh and salt waters. Anal gills in the larvae breeding in fresh waters are significantly (P greater than 0.001) longer than those from salt waters (mean ratio between the upper anal gill length and saddle length is 2/3 and 1/2, respectively). A. sergievi is apparently related to East Asia steppe zone (Mongolian - Chinese formations) : besides Tuva, it is found in East Kazakhstan and may occur in Zabaikalye, Mongolia and North China.
