[The characteristics of aging rate among elderly people on the European North of Russia].

Social factors and the role of environment which influence to the aging process on the cohort of the elderly people on European North of Russia have been discussed. The indicators of aging of elderly people stated in the different living conditions with defining risk factors have been analyzed. The predominance of the individuals with high rates of aging in the men's cohort living in the rural areas has been considered. Consume alcohol is the aggravating factor accelerating the significant aging rate of women addicted to alcohol.

[Healthy life style as part of strategy of active longevity].

The contemporary approaches to the conception of healthy aging are discussed. The insufficient propaganda of healthy style of life of elderly population results in non-satisfaction of own health in old age; lack of information about opportunities to strengthen the health in the system of social services managing is also a problem. Weak skills and motivation of elder generation for taking care of the own health are registered. Gender and age features of health self-evaluation have been considered. Low meaning of spending spare time to use physical culture activity for strengthening health have been determinated.

[Demographic aspects of social security of elderly population in the Barents Euro-Arctic Region].

Social security of elderly people is discussed at different levels of the realization of the geronto-social policy in the Barents Euro-Arctic Region within the context of the Madrid Plan of Actions on Aging. There have been comparatively analyzed demographic indicators that show age structures of the regions which are parts of the Barents Euro-Arctic Region. There have been defined regional differences and trends of improvement of geronto-social policy for providing security of life activity of elderly people in the Russian part of the Barents Euro-Arctic Region.

[Gerontosocial work in the context of Russian culture and recommendations of Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing].

The definition of gerontosocial work adopted in the majority of the European countries in the context of the Russian culture and priority trends of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing has been discussed. In the article the interaction and differences between terms being used in social work with the elderly people in Russia have been showed; tasks and peculiarities of gerontosocial work have been defined. Peculiarities of interaction between personnel and elderly patients have been studied; the increasing requirements to the professionalism of gerontosocial workers have been proved.

[Socio-cultural model of gerontosocial work for improving quality of life of elderly people].

Scientific and theoretical approaches to gerontosocial work, perspective trends of its development in the Russian society: socio-cultural model, resource based gerontosocial work, two-level training system for specialists on gerontology, gerontological education have been discussed. The goals and levels of education in gerontology in the modern society have been considered. The introduction of the socio-cultural model into the practical work with the elderly people in accord with the Madrid Action Plan on Ageing has been proved. The perspective trends of improving quality of life of the elderly people within the framework of the gerontosocial policy have been suggested.

[Use of normobaric oxygenation for preventive and therapeutic purposes]. / Primenenie normobaricheskoi oksigenatsii s profilakticheskoi i lechebnoi tsel'iu.

Courses of normobaric oxygenation were performed in 72 healthy males (residents of the city of Arkhangelsk) and in 91 patients suffering from chronic nonspecific pulmonary diseases with respiratory insufficiency of I-II degree. Normobaric oxygenation led to the optimization of the CVS activity of northerners and an increase in their working capacity. The corrective role of oxygenation was more noticeable in persons with signs of dysadaptation. A favorable therapeutic effect of normobaric oxygenation in patients with respiratory insufficiency was not restricted to direct oxygen influence, its after-effects were lasting. Biochemical investigations indicated the absence of a toxic oxygen effect in this regimen of oxygenation.

[Lipids of blood and erythrocyte membranes in healthy persons and in patients with diffuse toxic goiter, residing in the European North of the USSR]. / Lipidy krovi i membran éritrotsitov u zdorovykh i bol'nykh s diffuznym toksicheskim zobom, zhitelei evropeiskogo severa SSSR.

A study of the blood plasma content of total cholesterol in 575 healthy persons and 675 patients with diffuse toxic goiter (DTG), and the content of total lipids and triglycerides in 52 healthy persons and 132 DTG patients showed the development of adaptation hyperlipidemia in persons living long in the North. It was preserved in DTG patients irrespective of the gravity of thyrotoxicosis, stages of its therapy and the patients' age. Basing on the analysis of the level of lipid indices of erythrocytic membrane malonic dialdehyde and their refractoriness to peroxide hemolysis in 52 healthy persons and 53 DTG patients, a conclusion was made of excessive stable activation of lipid peroxidation biomembranes which can underlie the development of visceral complications.
