RESUMO

Neurological diseases are the most common cause of disability worldwide. In addition to physical limitations, they often lead to cognitive deficits that make active participation in professional and social life difficult. Due to physical and cognitive deficits, it is often difficult for neurological patients to gain access to specialized knowledge or to receive specialized treatment and is associated with greatly increased effort. Neurological diseases account for 11.6% of global disability-adjusted life years (DALYs, a measure for quantifying disease burden) and 16.5% of deaths, and remain the leading cause of DALYs and the second leading cause of death worldwide. Neurorehabilitation encompasses the goal of reintegrating patients with neurological dysfunctions into everyday life. The ongoing situation in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic poses new challenges for the healthcare system. Social distancing and quarantine have deprived many people with neurological disorders of access to routine medical care. The corona pandemic is a catalyst for the widespread use of telemedicine in the field of neurology and neurorehabilitation. Projects such as the Brunei project of the Nordwest Krankenhaus Frankfurt as well as an MS clinic in Canada show that highly specialized medicine and neurorehabilitation can be delivered to remote areas or in the living room of patients or any doctor's office. Telemedical, telerehabilitative and teletherapeutic applications offer the opportunity to supplement and optimize existing care structures and with modern technology to make a new and contemporary interpretation of old-fashioned medical and therapeutic home visits.

RESUMO

Despite the current laboratory and instrumental approaches to the diagnosis, a patient with multiple brain lesions remains a difficult one. The reason is that these lesions can be caused by a variety of disorders, including rare ones and atypical forms. Distinguishing neoplastic lesions from non-neoplastic CNS disorders is crucial due to different treatment options. The authors report the case of a patient with multiple brain lesions, present a literature review of diseases to be differentially diagnosed with multifocal brain lesions and suggest a simple algorithm for the differential diagnosis. Timely clinical evaluation and a multidisciplinary approach are required for making a definitive diagnosis that is extremely important to start the appropriate therapy.

RESUMO

We report on the direct correlation between the structural and optical properties of single, as-grown core-multi-shell GaAs/In0.15Ga0.85As/GaAs/AlAs/GaAs nanowires. Fabricated by molecular beam epitaxy on a pre-patterned Si(111) substrate, on a row of well separated nucleation sites, it was possible to access individual nanowires in the as-grown geometry. The polytype distribution along the growth axis of the nanowires was revealed by synchrotron-based nanoprobe x-ray diffraction techniques monitoring the axial 111 Bragg reflection. For the same nanowires, the spatially-resolved emission properties were obtained by cathodoluminescence hyperspectral linescans in a scanning electron microscope. Correlating both measurements, we reveal a blueshift of the shell quantum well emission energy combined with an increased emission intensity for segments exhibiting a mixed structure of alternating wurtzite and zincblende stacking compared with the pure crystal polytypes. The presence of this mixed structure was independently confirmed by cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy.

RESUMO

We report and detail a lithography-free method to pattern Si substrates. In particular, a focused Ga ion beam is used to create regular patterns of holes which serve as a template for the growth of vertically aligned GaAs nanowires (NW)s on Si(111) substrates using self-catalyzed molecular beam epitaxy. We show that the hole diameter plays a crucial role in the growth of the NWs at the drilled holes. The critical parameters defining the width of the holes are: ion dose quantities, wet etching procedures, and high-temperature steps at the process of growth. As a result, we obtained a yield of more than 80% for vertically aligned NW. Compared to other methods of patterning our approach provides the following advantages: (i) it is a lithography-free procedure, (ii) allows for quick patterning process and hole diameter optimization within a small window of trial and error, (iii) and provides potential applicability for different material systems.

RESUMO

Novel zwitterionic phosphonium alkylsulfonate ligands are chemoselectively synthesized from N-heterocyclic phosphines and cyclic sulfones in one step in good to excellent yields. Their in situ generated palladium complexes showed high productivity in the industrial telomerization of 1,3-butadiene with methanol. Optimal results are obtained in the presence of cyclohexyl-substituted ligands under mild conditions and at metal loadings as low as 0.001 mol%.

RESUMO

The B3LYP hybrid density functional computational technique was applied to describe the sequence of phenoxy radicals coupling reactions leading to the formation of dibenzofurans. Reaction kinetic parameters were estimated for key reactions. Aromatization of bis-keto dimers of phenoxy radicals followed by intermediate dehydration or dehydroxylation was demonstrated to be a strongly stereoselective process. While the S,S-diastereomer of the ortho-C//ortho-C keto dimer forms (o,o')-dihydroxybiphenyl, a known dibenzofuran intermediate, via inter-ring hydrogen transfer reaction, the less stable R,S-stereoisomer can easily be transformed into another 5-hydroxyl-4,5-cyclohexadiene-2,3-benzofuran intermediate that provides an energetically more favorable pathway for formation of dibenzofuran. The possible channels of radical-chain processes that convert these intermediates to dibenzofuran and polychlorinated dibenzofurans are discussed.
