RESUMO
A previously healthy 5-year-old boy developed cerebral vasculopathy, presenting as two episodes of acute hemiparesis 3 and 9 months, respectively, after a primary varicella infection (chickenpox). This association has not been reported before, to our knowledge, although cerebral vasculopathy is a well-known complication of herpes zoster ophthalmicus. The diagnosis was based on the presence of oligoclonal varicella-specific IgG in the cerebrospinal fluid and angiographic findings. Clinical and angiographic follow-up, and serial thymidine kinase activity levels in the cerebrospinal fluid suggested a self-limiting course of the virus-induced vasculopathy. Varicella zoster virus seems to be another potential causative agent to be considered in acute childhood hemiplegia.

Four elderly patients with inclusion body myositis and dysphagia are described. Dysphagia was the presenting symptom in three, preceding generalised weakness by 1.5 to 7 years. Myotomy of the cricopharyngeal muscle improved the symptoms and signs in 3 of the 4 patients. It is suggested that inclusion body myositis is not an infrequent cause of dysphagia in elderly people, and is amenable to treatment.

In a retrospective study, 300 scans obtained with 99mTc-DTPA of 100 kidney transplant recipients were studied. The aim was to look for extrarenal scintigraphic aspects encountered specifically in renal transplant scintigraphy and to determine whether some of these phenomena could interfere with adequate interpretation. The most important phenomena seen were radioactivity in the uterus and a cold spot in the pelvis minor caused by a urine filled bladder. If the phenomena that can be encountered are known, the risk of incorrect evaluation is small. In addition, we report on the occurrence of stasis due to disturbed urine flow.

In a prospective study of 27 shoulders with recurrent anterior dislocation, we compared six radiographic views for demonstration of the Hill-Sachs defect and the Bankart lesion. The Hill-Sachs defect was most often identified by the Stryker notch view (25/27); it was best visualized and most easily recognized on the 45 degrees craniocaudal view (22/27). This view also had the highest diagnostic yield for demonstrating the Bankart lesion.
