RESUMO

The graft nephrectomy is burdened by immunological and surgical complications. The main surgical complications of graft nephrectomy are hemorrhage, infections, vascular injury and death. The mortality is high, with percentages varying between 1.3 and 38%. Therefore, graft nephrectomy should be recommended only in selected cases. We conducted a retrospective study, comparing the data of 26 patients undergoing an allograft nephrectomy (2009-2013), without embolization of the renal artery (NO EMBO group) with the data of 40 patients undergoing an allograft nephrectomy (2014-2019), with embolization of the renal artery (EMBO group). We included only graft nephrectomies performed at least 6 months after transplantation. The patients included in the study were consecutive because until 2013 we did not perform the embolization of the renal graft artery. Afterwards, from 2014, instead, we routinely carry out embolization to all patients to be subjected to graft nephrectomy. We, therefore, wanted to analyze whether this surgical approach compared to the previous technique can lead to an improvement in morbidity and mortality, reducing the risk of bleeding and operating times. The examination of our data highlights that embolization of renal artery reduces the operating times of the explant, in addition the group subjected to embolization had less changes in hemoglobinemia and less blood loss.

RESUMO

Background: The extraction of the mandibular third molar is one of the most frequent intervention in oral surgery. A common indication for wisdom tooth extraction is represented by pericoronitis, which can determine discomfort and pain in patients. The present study aimed to evaluate the impact of patients' quality of life by comparing a surgical approach with a periodontal approach. METHODS: We evaluated 82 patients diagnosed with pericoronitis that occurred at the third molar site. In total, 41 of them received a periodontal treatment and 41 were treated by extraction. The quality of life (QoL) of the patients was assessed by using the Oral Health Impact Profile-14 (OHIP-14) index. RESULTS: A total of 82 patients were included in the study and were followed up for 6 months. Of the patients, 41 received a periodontal treatment and 41 underwent surgical extraction. At the baseline, the OHIP-14 scores of the surgical group were higher (19.71, SD 9.90) than the periodontal group (14.41, SD 8.71). At 1 week, there was a reduction in terms of OHIP-14 in both groups, but the periodontal group showed lower values (12.3, SD 8.11). Long-term follow-up showed a reduction of the OHIP-14 values, with a difference in favor of the surgical group (0.10, SD 0.45). However, there was a reduction in OHIP-14 scores in both groups. CONCLUSION: Although the periodontal treatment offered a rapid improvement in terms of quality of life during the first week after the treatment, after 1 month and 6 months, the extraction of the mandibular third molar extraction remained the best treatment, removing the occurrence of re-inflammation of the site.

RESUMO

This article reports research that tried to make the father's commitment to the child's development more apparent. Based in extensive research, they differenciated two groups of 17 babies: children brought up "only and primarily by the mother"; and children brought up "as much by the father as the mother" -- a balanced sample group regarding age and sex. The dependent variable was revealed by a check of observable relational and motor skills inside a day-care center: each child was watched for 10 minutes at each of ten sessions of recreational activity, for a total of 100 minutes. Factoral analysis of the relationships allows us to think that the child's behavior is influenced by the father's sharing the caregiving on 3 levels: motors skills, opening-up to playmates (peers), a healthy safe relationship with the adult. Interpreting this co-occurrence would now be worthwhile.
