RESUMO

The wakefulness-sleep cycle characteristics changes in Wistar line rats after unilateral lesions of the neuronal elements of the caudate nucleus head with kainic acid (at sparing the conducting ways going through this structure) were studied. It was shown that in 4 days after acid injection the share of the active wakefulness and light slow-wave sleep is significantly increased, whereas the percentage of the passive wakefulness, deep slow-wave stage, and paradoxal sleep (up to 80%) is reduced. The wakefulness-sleep cycle in rats is completely normalized on the 7th day after injection. The obtained data allow to consider the caudate nucleus as a modulator for wakefulness-sleep cycle, that is the structure involved in the motive activity regulation.

RESUMO

Unit activity of the medial wall of the frontal cortex was studied during spatial delayed performance in rats. Significant modifications of the neuronal activity were observed after the change of motivation. Direct neuronal projections from hypothalamic nuclei to the medial wall of the frontal cortex were revealed by horseradish peroxidase technique. The role of hypothalamo-cortical interaction in organization of motivational and emotional components of behaviour is discussed.

RESUMO

The Golgi and Golgi-Kopsh methods show that pyramidal cells in layers II-IV of the prefrontal cortex in Macaca rhesus have numerous, mainly recurrent, collaterals of axons which realize vertical connections. Three groups of stellate basket cells which have different axon collateral directions were identified. They unite the pyramidal cells both in horizontal (modules) and vertical (micromodules) directions. Arrangements of 14-16 pyramidal neurons which form dendritic bundles were found. Local neuronal groups with U-shape axons were observed near the bundles.

RESUMO

The morphological analysis after intracortical injection of kainic acid revealed lesions of cell bodies and dendrites and intact afferents in the same cortical region. After the injection, the primary positive phase of cortical surface EPs during stimulation of the ventrolateral nucleus or contralateral forepaw disappeared whereas the negative phase remained though with a lesser amplitude, shortened latency, and not inverted in the deep cortical layers. The dendrite potential on the cortical stimulation was completely depressed in the poisoned cortical region. The initial positive phase seems to reflect the postsynaptic hyperpolarization of apical dendrites whereas the initial negative phase seems to consist of both pre- and postsynaptic components across the whole cortical diameter.

RESUMO

The changes that occurred in the cat cerebral cortex were studied days 1, 3, 7 and 14 following administration of 0.2% kainic acid. Kainic acid was shown to produce a local destruction of neuronal cell bodies and their dendrites and to spare the afferent fibers that pass through or terminate in the injected area. These effects were demonstrated with using the methods of Golgi and Golgi-Kopsch as well as during the administration of horseradish peroxidase after kainic acid injection into the cerebral cortex. The 3-day period following the injection is the most optimal for studies into interneuronal relations. The experiments revealed pericellular baskets formed by afferents around the pyramidal cells.
