[Otogenic and rhinogenic intracranial complications: meningitis and brain abscess in adults]. / Vnutricherepnye oslozhneniia vospalitel'nykh zabolevanii nosa i ukha: meningit i abstsessy mozga u vzroslykh.

The purpose of this study is to review etiology, diagnosis and management strategies of rhinogenic and otogenic meningitis and brain abscess in adults. Current diagnostic procedures, effective surgery and antibiotic treatment are discussed. The clinical case of diagnosis and successful treatment of the patient with rhinogenic meningitis and brain abscesses is presented.

[Foreign bodies in the external auditory canal and tympanic cavity].

The rare clinical case of a patient with chronic otitis media and foreign body in the middle ear - a micro earphone in the tympanic cavity - is described in this article. The diagnostics, possible complications, and surgical treatment are discussed.

[Clinical picture and treatment of initial symptoms of otogenic intracranial complications]. / Klinika i lechenie nachal'nykh proiavlenii otogennykh vnutricherepnykh oslozhnenii.

The author presents results of clinical and device investigation and analysis of intraoperative findings in surgical treatment of 150 patients with chronic purulent otitis media. Computed tomography of the temporal bones allows verification of the initial stage of otogenic intracranial complications in 90% of the cases. In early stages of development of otogenic intracranial complications destruction extention demans urgent cleansing intervention of the open type.

[Characteristics of destructive changes in the middle ear of patients with chronic otitis media, purulent complicated by local pachymeningitis]. / Osobennosti destruktivnykh izmenenii v srednem ukhe u bol'nykh khronicheskim gnoinym otitom, oslozhnennym ogranichennym pakhimenengitom.

The author made a comparison of clinical and morphological examinations of 150 patients with otitis media purulenta chronica. Being an initial stage of otogenic intracranial complications, local pachymeningitis is characterized by more pronounced destruction of the temporal bone. In emergence of local pachymeningitis signs an urgent operation on the middle ear is needed.

[The EEG characteristics and EEG toposelective mapping in patients with chronic suppurative otitis media before and after a sanitizing operation on the ear]. / Osobennosti EEG i toposelektivnogo kartirovaniia EEG u bol'nykh s khronicheskim gnoinym srednim otitom do i posle saniruiushchei operatsii na ukhe.

Spontaneous bioelectric activity of the brain was studied by means of EEG monitoring with toposelective EEG mapping in 45 patients with otitis media purulenta chronica before and after ear surgery. A correlation was found between the presentation of slow rhythms and the initial stage of otogenic intracranial complications in the examinees. This is an additional criterium for establishment of early diagnosis of local pachymeningitis.

[Effectiveness of computerized tomography of the temporal bone in the diagnosis of chronic suppurative otitis media]. / Effektivnost' komp'iuternoi tomografii visochnoi kosti v diagnostike khronicheskogo gnoinogo srednego otita.

Temporal bone computed tomography findings were compared to those obtained at operation in 30 patients with chronic OMP. The comparison demonstrated high informative value of CT examinations which provide exhaustive characteristics of the pathological process important for preparation to and performance of relevant surgery.
