[Chemiluminescence of peripheral blood T and B lymphocytes in patients with burn leukoma after lamellar keratoplasty]. / Khemiliuminestsentsiia T- i B-limfotsitov perifericheskoi krovi bol'nykh s ozhogovymi bel'mami posle posloinoi keratoplastiki.

Lamellar keratoplasty was carried out in 50 patients after eye burns. The following methods were used in the study: assessment of the intensity of chemiluminescence, electron microscopy, and assessment of T-lymphocyte subpopulations by cytofluorograph (USA) and OCT monoclonal antibodies (USA). Free-radical activation was detected by chemiluminescence during the first hours of keratoplasty in the recipient's peripheral blood leukolymphocytic suspension, whereas immunocorrecting lymphocytes did not change during this period. On days 1-2 statistically reliable changes occurred in the immune system. By day 5 electron microscopy of the leukolymphocytic suspension showed cooperation of immunocompetent cells. The course of the corneal transplant taking in was for 2 years associated with the T-helper to T-suppressor imbalance, increase of chemiluminescence level, and detection of immune lymphocytes and their cooperation under electron microscope. The authors claim that primary formed peroxides act as nonspecific participants of metabolism by altering the functional activity of immunocompetent cells; hence, a new trend in the study of cell-mediated immunity appears: immunobiophysical.

[Initial clinical experience with the use of an auxiliary liver device]. / Pervyi klinicheskii opyt primeneniia apparata "vspomogatel'naia pechen".

The authors developed an artificial liver apparatus that comprised 2 running classifiers of blood or one running classifier and mass exchanger. The functionally active link of the apparatus is a suspension of living isolated xenohepatocytes obtained from the liver of pigs weighing 18-20 kg by a combined enzymatic and mechanical procedure. More than 100 in vivo laboratory experiments and 30 operations were performed in 20 patients with acute and chronic hepatic failure. Three patients died, the remaining showed significantly better biochemical parameters of blood and full recovery or stable remission.

[Morphological characteristics of Peyronie's disease]. / Morfologicheskie osobennosti bolezni Peironi.

Morphological examinations of 40 operation preparations in Peyronie's disease were done by light and electron microscopy. The studies showed the main changes in this disease to localize in tunica albuginea which thickens considerably forming a plaque. The latter presents bundles of thickened collagen fibers with altered fibroblasts and perivascular round-cell infiltrates. Sometimes areas of formation of cartilage and bone tissue were found. The combination of Peyronie's disease with Dupuytren's contracture was confirmed.

[Hematopoietic stroma and the regulation of hematopoiesis in extramedullary bone marrow transplants in mice]. / Krovetvornaia stroma i reguliatsiia krovetvoreniia v ékstramedulliarnykh transplantatakh kostnogo mozga u myshei.

The bone marrow fragments were transplanted under the renal capsule and "stromal function" of the transplants during up to 1.5 years was estimated by the numbers of CFU-S, myelokaryocytes and the weight of newly formed bone tissue. On the basis of the published and authors' data, a conclusion was drawn that the ability of the stromal precursor cells of bone marrow to provide for the growth of hemopoietic territories is limited by the size of medullary cavity; outside its limits this ability is not only realized, but may be additionally stimulated by some distant factors (preirradiation of the recipients in the given case). The self-maintenance ability of the stromal mechanocytes from the old mice during 43 months was shown by means of retransplantation. On the basis of electron microscopy and published data, a suggestion was put forward that fibroblastic reticular cells might be ancestral elements of osteogenic differentiation.

Comparative histoenzymatic, electron microscopic and histologic studies of kidney preservation without perfusion have shown that the pattern of precipitation of tetrazolium reaction products correlates with the degree of ultrastructural damage to the epithelium of renal tubules. A previously made suggestion on the possibility of using the tetrazolium reactions for estimating the degree of preservation of ischemized organs and tissues has been confirmed.

[Biological activity of ischemic liver tissue]. / Osobennosti biologicheskoi aktivnosti ishemizirovannoi tkani pecheni.

Four fractions were isolated from extracts of ischemized and control liver tissues. Toxic activity of the fractions did not depend on the content of proteins. Distinct immunogeneity and high antigenic activity of the ischemized liver tissue were noted. As shown by electron microscopy the fractions consisted of mitochondria destructed by various degree. The data obtained suggest the polypeptide structure of the toxic factor. Molecular weight of the active component was about 10000-20000 daltons.

[Trauma to the blood during assisted circulation]. / Travma krovi pri vspomogatel'nom krovoobrashchenii.

Trauma inflicted to blood in different method of assisted circulation was studied in experiments and in the clinic. Morphological disturbances of red blood cells and changes in their aggregation properties were revealed. Left ventricular shunt and aorto-aortic counter-pulsation are attended with increased aggregation properties of blood platelets. Aorta-aortic counter-pulsation causes a greater damaging effect than shunting of the left ventricle. Counter-pulsation by means of a balloon pump is attended with least hemolysis.

[Supramolecular changes in preserved corneal tissue exposed to alpha-tocopherol]. / Nadmolekuliarnye izmeneniia v konservirovannoi tkani rogovitsy pri vozdeistvii na nee al'fa-tokoferola

Kinetics of chemifluorescence of the tissue of the cornea of isolated dog eyes (induced by 1% hydrogen peroxide) was confronted to the results of determination of the ultrastructural changes in the 30th day the eye preservation in a moist chamber at 4 degrees C with and without replacement of the chamber humour of the eye with alpha-tocopherol. The results of investigations pointed to profound changes of free radical processes in the structural components of the corneal cells with changes in the periods and conditions of preservation. It is supposed that these disturbances underlied the trigger mechanisms of the autolysis. Stabilization of the lipoprotein complexes of the cell in preservation is apparently determined by the capacity of antioxidants, particularly of alpha-tocopherol to maintain oxidative processes at a constant level.
