RESUMO

The problem of light reflection has been raised as a high priority issue for optical diagnostics in next step fusion devices where metallic wall environment will generate significant perturbations in the diagnostics measurements. Tore Supra is a large size tokamak equipped with water-cooled stainless-steel panels used to sustain the plasma long shot radiations. These panels are highly reflective and affect significantly optical systems. In particular, we show that the infrared imaging diagnostic, which surveys the plasma facing component surface temperature for safety purposes, can give incorrect information due to reflected light coming from the bottom limiter. In the visible range, motional Stark effect and Zeff measurements experience important drifts during the plasma heating phases due to parasitic light coming from the limiter, but also from the plasma itself when the viewing lines are facing the reflecting walls. In the next step fusion devices such as ITER, the possibility to use optical measurements needs to be accessed by a modeling of the diagnostic light in its machine environment and the development of new techniques of online correction.

RESUMO

Probe measurements in the PISCES linear device indicate the presence of plasma radially far from where it is produced. We show that this is mainly caused by large-scale structures of plasma with high radial velocity. Data from the Tore Supra tokamak show striking similarities in the shape of these intermittent events as well as the fluctuation density probability distribution and frequency spectrum. The fact that intermittent, large-scale events are so similar in linear devices and tokamaks indicates the universality of convective transport in magnetically confined plasmas.

RESUMO

Recently, reversed magnetic shear operation was performed using only ion-cyclotron-resonance frequency minority heating (ICRH) during current ramp-up. A wide region of reversed magnetic shear has been obtained. For the first time, an electron internal transport barrier sustained by ICRH is observed, with a dramatical drop of density fluctuations. This barrier was maintained, on the current flat top, for about 2 s.

RESUMO

Laser-induced fluorescence measurements of NO in CH(4)-air flames seeded with CH(3)Cl and CH(2)Cl(2) are described. The measurements are perturbed by strong photochemical effects characterized by UV emissions. The contribution of these background emissions is taken into account on the basis of an on-line-off-line resonance procedure. First results indicate an important increase of NO in the presence of chlorinated species. Background emissions observed in the range 220-260 nm and at 278 nm are ascribed, respectively, to electronically excited HCl and CCl photofragments. It is shown that C(2)H(3)Cl and CHCl(2) species are responsible for the formation of HCl and CCl, respectively, and a photolytic mechanism for formation of the photofragments is proposed.
