RESUMO

Doxorubicin is the common chemotherapeutic agent that has been harnessed for the treatment of various types of malignancy including the treatment of soft tissue and osteosarcoma and cancers of the vital organs like breast, ovary, bladder, and thyroid. It is also used to treat leukaemia and lymphoma, however, this is an obstacle because of their prominent side effects including cardiotoxicity and lung fibrosis, we do aim to determine the role of CoQ10 as an antioxidant on the impeding the deleterious impacts of doxorubicin on tissue degenerative effects. To do so, 27 rats were subdivided into 3 groups of 9 each; CoQ10 exposed group, Doxorubicin exposed group, and CoQ10 plus Doxorubicin group. At the end of the study, the animals were sacrificed and lungs with hearts were harvested, and slides were prepared for examination under a microscope. The results indicated that doxorubicin induced abnormal cellular structure resulting in damaging cellular structures of the lung and heart while CoQ10 impeded these damaging effects and nearly restoring normal tissue structure. As a result, CoQ10 will maintain normal tissue of the lung and heart.

RESUMO

UNLABELLED: The aim of our study was to detect free-living Amoebae (FLA) by morphological methods and to identify Acanthamoeba spp. by PCR in the dental unit water lines (DUWL). MATERIALS AND METHODS: it was a prospective study dealing with 196 water samples collected from DUWL (94 samples taken in the early morning before materials flush and patient consultations and 102 samples taken after consultations). At the same time, 39 samples from tap water were realized. RESULTS: 135 (69%) samples were positives by the morphological study with morpholypical diversity. The predominant morphotype was the monopodial (39.2%). 18 strains of Acanthamoeba spp. were detected in DUW (13.%) and three strains in tap water (10%). The amplification of 18S rDNA gene of these strains of Acanthamoeba spp. was positive for all samples. CONCLUSION: the FLA and Acanthamoeba were isolated both in tap water and in dental unit. The amoeba pathogenicity has not been demonstrated after oral or dental contamination; but the presence of intracellular and pathogenic bacteria in the amoeba could be a source of microbiological risks for patients in case of deep dental care or immunodepression. The improvement of this dental unit was necessary by putting a filter of 0.2 microns porosity before the arrival of the water in hand-pieces allowing the limitation of FLA passage.

RESUMO

It is thought that incisor protrusion could be ethnic-related because Tunisians, as Africans, might reflect the genetic influence of the incisal protrusion of their darker skinned neighbors. We first compiled local standards by determining the normal incisor positions of children of the Sfax region with balanced facial patterns. We selected 95 teenagers from 5 different high schools in Sfax (average age: 16 years 9 months), all having a normal dentition and a balanced facial pattern. This first study showed that upper and lower incisors were protruded 3 mm beyond American standards. Second, we studied incisor stability after four-first bicuspid extraction treatment. We selected 26 patients all having Class I molar relationships and upper and lower incisor protrusion. We compared x-ray incisor measurements of 3 radiographs: before treatment, after treatment and 2 or 3 years post-treatment. This study shows that incisor relapse ranges between 20 and 30%.
