RESUMO

The shear strength prediction of concrete beams reinforced with FRP rebars and stirrups is one of the most complicated issues in structural engineering applications. Numerous experimental and theoretical studies have been conducted to establish a relationship between the shear capacity and the design variables. However, existing semi-empirical models fail to deliver precise predictions due to the intricate nature of shear mechanisms. To provide a more accurate and reliable model, machine learning (ML) techniques are adopted to study the shear behavior of concrete beams reinforced with FRP rebars and stirrups. A database consisting of 120 tested specimens is compiled from the reported literature. An artificial neural network (ANN) and a combination of ANN with a genetic optimization algorithm (GA-ANN) are implemented for the development of an ML model. Through neural interpretation diagrams (NID), the critical design factors, i.e., beam width and effective depth, shear span-to-depth ratio, compressive strength of concrete, FRP longitudinal reinforcement ratio, FRP shear reinforcement ratio, and elastic modulus of FRP longitudinal reinforcement rebars and FRP stirrups, are identified and determined as input parameters of the models. The accuracy of the proposed models has been verified by comparing the model predictions with the available test results. The application of the GA-ANN model provides better statistical results (mean value Vexp/Vpre equal to 0.99, R2 of 0.91, and RMSE of 22.6 kN) and outperforms CSA S806-12 predictions by improving the R2 value by 18.2% and the RMSE value by 52.5%. Furthermore, special attention is paid to the coupling effects of design parameters on shear capacity, which has not been reasonably considered in the models in the literature and available design guidelines. Finally, an ML-regression equation considering the coupling effects is developed based on the data-driven regression analysis method. The analytical results revealed that the prediction agrees with the test results with reasonable accuracy, and the model can be effectively applied in the prediction of shear capacity of concrete beams reinforced with FRP bars and stirrups.

Carbon emissions from land use changes have become one of the main sources of regional carbon emissions. In order to explore its changes, based on the MCD12Q-LUCC data of MODIS from 2001 to 2019 using the carbon emission coefficient method, clustering, and outlier analysis method, the spatial characteristics of land use carbon emissions in various provinces in China in the past 19 years were discussed from the perspectives of carbon emission economy contributive coefficient, carbon ecological support coefficient, and their coupling and coordination relationship. The results showed that:① from 2000 to 2019, the national land use carbon emissions increased significantly; however, after 2011, the growth rate of carbon emissions became flat, whereas the growth of carbon sinks was relatively slow, and the gap between the two was still large. ② Clustering and outlier analysis showed that during the study period, the high-value agglomeration centers of land use carbon emissions in various provinces and cities across the country shifted from Guangdong, Jiangsu, and other provinces to Hebei, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, and other provinces, and the agglomeration status became increasingly obvious. ③ The economy contributive coefficient of carbon emissions in all provinces and cities across the country had the spatial characteristics of being high in the south and low in the north, and the ecological support coefficient gradually developed from high in the west to low in the east, followed by that in the north, and the coupling coordination between the two showed a downward trend. ④ Based on the economy contributive of carbon emissions and carbon ecological support, this study divided the provinces into four categories:low-carbon maintenance area, economic development area, carbon sink development area, and comprehensive optimization area. We also put forward our own development suggestions, striving to achieve carbon neutrality and low-carbon sustainable development.

This study investigated the shear resistance and damage evolution of glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP)-reinforced concrete short columns. Five circular concrete short columns reinforced with GFRP bars and spiral stirrups were fabricated and tested under lateral thrust in the laboratory. The test variables involved the stirrup reinforcement ratio, the longitudinal reinforcement ratio and the type of stirrups. The failure modes, load-displacement curves, strain responses and crack characteristics of these columns were documented and discussed. The accuracy of shear design equations in predicting shear capacity of such columns was evaluated. In addition, the digital image correlation (DIC) instrument was used to identify the full-field strain and damage zones of circular concrete short columns. Several smart aggregate (SA) transducers coupled to the surface of these columns were used to monitor its damage status. The energy ratio index (ERI) and the damage index based on smart aggregate were established to characterize damage level of such columns. The test results indicate that the shear capacity is improved 5.6% and 31.1% and the lateral ultimate displacement is increased 67.7% and 400% as the stirrup reinforcement ratio of the concrete short column is increased from 0 to 0.19% and 0.47%, respectively. The shear capacity equation proposed by Ali and his co-workers, considering a strain limit of 0.004Efv, gives accurate predictions of the shear capacity of circular concrete short columns reinforced with GFRP bars and spiral stirrups. The variation in ERI values is explained by the development of damage zones of the column obtained with DIC technology and with the proposed damage index based on the smart aggregate it is feasible to evaluate the damage level of circular short concrete columns.

To extend understanding of the bonding behavior of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) and steel bars in self-compacting concrete (SCC), an experimental series consisting of 36 direct pull-out tests monitored by acoustic emission (AE) were performed in this paper. The test variables involved rebar type, bar diameter, embedded length, and polypropylene (PP) fiber volume content. For each test, the pull-out force and free end slip were continuously measured and compared with the corresponding AE signals. It was found that the proposed AE method was effective in detecting the debonding process between the FRP/steel bars and the hosting concrete. The AE signal strength exhibited a good correlation with the actual bond stress-slip relationship measured in each specimen. Based on the AE location technique, the invisible non-uniform distribution of bonding stress along the bar was further revealed, the initial location of damage and the debonding process were captured. Additionally, the contribution of bar-to-concrete load-bearing mechanism (chemical adhesion, friction, and mechanical interlocking) to sustain the pull-out force was effectively clarified by studying the collected signals in the frequency domain of AE methods. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed AE method has potential to detect the debonding damage of FRP/steel bar reinforced SCC structures accurately.

In this study, we investigated the distribution of vitamin D and its association with carotid atherosclerotic plaque (CP) in Chinese type 2 diabetic (T2D) patients. We performed a cross-sectional study in 210 T2D and 94 age- and gender-matched nondiabetic patients during winter months, by determining serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) levels in both diabetic and nondiabetic controls. We carried out measurements of B-mode ultrasonography of carotid arteries in each T2D patient. The 25(OH)D concentration was 26.25 nmol/L among the T2D patients. About 93.3% T2D patients suffered from hypovitaminosis D. First, we found a clear inverse correlation between the 25(OH)D concentration and CP (P <0.001). Second, an association between 25(OH)D and macrovascular disease was significant (P = 0.005). In multivariate logistic regression analysis, decreasing 25(OH)D concentration was markedly associated with CP in T2D patients. Third, after adjusting for the confounding factors, we also observed a positive correlation between low levels of 25(OH)D in T2D patients with CP, when the following parameters were measured: old age (odds ratio [OR] = 2.533, P = 0.013); smoking (OR = 3.872, P = 0.001); and high level of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (OR = 2.776, P = 0.009). Thus, we concluded that high prevalence of hypovitaminosis D exists in Chinese T2D patients. Further, we found a significant association between low concentration of serum 25(OH)D and the existence of high body mass index, and high circulating LDL to be substantially positive predictors of patients with CP in T2D.

OBJECTIVE: a network meta-analysis was performed to compare the strength and weakness of negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) with ultrasound debridement (UD) as for diabetic foot ulcers (DFU). METHODS: PubMed, Ovid EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane library databases, and Chinese Biomedical Literature Database were searched till February 2015. Clinical compared studies of negative pressure wound therapy and ultrasound debridement were enrolled. The primary efficacy outcomes included healed ulcers, reduction of ulcer areas and time to closure. Secondary amputation including major and minor amputations was used to assess the safety profile. RESULTS: Out of 715 studies, 32 were selected which enrolled 2880 diabetic patients. The pooled analysis revealed that NPWT including vacuum assisted closure (VAC) and vacuum sealing drainage (VSD) were as efficacious as ultrasound debridement improving healed ulcers, odds ratio, 0.86; 95% CI 0.28 to 2.6 and 1.2; 95% CI 0.38 to 4, respectively. However, both were better to standard wound care in wound healing patients. Compared with the standard wound care treated diabetic foot ulcers, NPWT and UD resulted in a significantly superior efficacy in time to wound closure and decrement in area of wound. No significances were observed between NPWT and UD groups in both indicators. Fewer patients tended to receive amputation in NPWT and UD groups compared to standard wound care group. CONCLUSIONS: The results of the network meta-analysis indicated that negative pressure wound therapy was similar to ultrasound debridement for diabetic foot ulcers, but better than standard wound care both in efficacy and safety profile.

The Chinese herbal formula Tongluo Jiunao, containing the active components Panax notoginseng and Gardenia jasminoides, has recently been patented and is in use clinically. It is known to be neuroprotective in cerebral ischemia, but the underlying pathway remains poorly understood. In the present study, we established a rat model of cerebral ischemia by occlusion of the middle cerebral artery, and administered Tongluo Jiunao, a positive control (Xuesai Tong, containing Panax notoginseng) or saline intraperitoneally to investigate the pathway involved in the action of Tongluo Jiunao injection. 2,3,5-Triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) staining showed that the cerebral infarct area was significantly smaller in model rats that received Tongluo Jiunao than in those that received saline. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay revealed significantly greater expression of neurotrophin 3 and growth-associated protein 43 in ischemic cerebral tissue, and serum levels of neurotrophin 3, in the Tongluo Jiunao group than in the saline group. The reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and immunohistochemical staining showed that after treatment with Tongluo Jiunao or Xuesai Tong, tropomyosin-related kinase C gene expression and immunoreactivity were significantly elevated compared with saline, with the greatest expression observed after Tongluo Jiunao treatment. These findings suggest that Tongluo Jiunao injection exerts a neuroprotective effect in rats with cerebral ischemia by activating the neurotrophin 3/tropomyosin-related kinase C pathway.

Objective To learn the consumption of edible oil among residents in Tongxiang City. Methods 180 households were randomly sampled from 6 resident committees. The consumption of edible oil was obtained by questionnaire investigation,and the levels of edible oil consumption between different oil types,survey spots and districts were compared. Results The per-capita of edible oil consumption was(42. 89 ± 5. 83)g. There was significant difference among the per-capita of six survey spots( p<0. 05 ). Among all the residents,rapeseed oil( 55. 00%)and blended oil( 55. 00%) were the most consumed edible oil. Except lard oil,there was no significant difference among different types of edible oils (p>0. 05). In rural area,the per-capita of oil was(48. 46 ± 8. 90)g,which was higher than(35. 78 ± 4. 27)g in city (p<0. 05). Conclusion The consumption level of edible oil among residents is high in Tongxiang City. It's necessary to strengthen the health education and to guide residents intaking edible oil correctly.

The present article measured the absorption coefficient spectra and refractive index spectra of nitrofurantoin original drug, which is one kind of nitrofuran drugs, in the terahertz frequency range from 0.2 to 1.8 THz using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy. The results showed that there exist a number of characteristic absorption peaks of nitrofurantoin with different intensity in the range and the absorption coefficient spectra can be used to identify nitrofurantoin. The article also simulated absorption coefficient spectra of nitrofurantoin molecule within 0.2 - 1.8 THz using density functional theory by Gaussian software, and vibrational modes of some peaks in the experimental absorption coefficient spectra were analyzed and identified. The results show that the experimental absorption peaks at 1.25 and 1.60 THz correspond with the theoretical peaks at 1.30 and 1.67 THz, and these experimental peaks were caused by intramolecular vibrational modes of nitrofurantoin.

Previous studies have shown that insertion/deletion polymorphisms in the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) gene and the endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) gene are associated with Henoch-Schönlein purpura nephritis (HSPN). However, further studies are required to prove the relationship between HSPN and ACE and eNOS single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). We studied six ACE SNPs and two eNOS SNPs by genotyping HSPN patients. Statistical analyses indicate that four ACE SNPs and two eNOS SNPs are associated with HSPN susceptibility. A cumulative effect analysis suggested that an increased number of unfavourable genotypes may lead to an increased risk of HSPN. By comparing alleles, genotypes and haplotypes that are associated with lupus nephritis (LN) and HSPN, we found genetic heterogeneity between HSPN and LN.

Frequency-dependent absorption coefficient spectrum and refractive index spectrum of alpha endosulfan, a kind of persistent organic pollutants, are presented in the terahertz frequency region by terahertz (THz) time-domain spectroscopy (TDS). The spectral features in the THz region have a number of unique characteristic absorption peaks. The result demonstrates that THz-TDS is a promising method to identify materials. Then we adopted density functional calculation method to analyze theoretic absorption coefficients of single alpha endosulfan molecule within 0.2-2 THz. The results show that absorption peaks at 1.68, 1.91 THz in theoretical calculation correspond to 1.7, 1.88 THz in the experiment. Finally, vibrational modes and approximate assignments were discussed, showing that these matched peaks are caused by intramolecular vibrational modes of alpha endosulfan. Others might be related to intermolecular vibrational modes or combined vibrational modes.

The terahertz spectra of Ractopamine hydrochloride in the range of 0.2 to 2.2 THz was obtained by THz time-domain spectroscopy, and the absorption and refraction spectra of Ractopamine hydrochloride was got meanwhile. The structure and vibrational frequencies of Ractopamine molecule in the THz range were simulated by density functional theory. The difference between experimental and theoretical results was analyzed. And assisted by Gaussian View 3.09, the origin of the vibrational frequencies was recognized. The results show that besides the intramolecular vibrations, THz absorption of Ractopamine hydrochloride originated from the intermolecular hydrogen bond network and Van der Waals force between molecules. This study demonstrated the feasibility of time-domain terahertz spectroscopy for the identification of Ractopamine hydrochloride and provided a new way for the detection of Ractopamine hydrochloride.

RESUMO

The terahertz spectra of Clenbuterol hydrochloride in the range of 0.2 to 2.6 THz were obtained by THz time-domain spectroscopy, the absorption and refraction spectra of Clenbuterol hydrochloride was got meanwhile. The structure and vibrational frequencies of Clenbuterol molecule, Clenbuterol hydrochloride molecule and Clenbuterol hydrochloride crystal in the THz range were simulated. Based on the difference between experimental and theoretical results, the origin of the vibrational frequencies was analyzed. This study demonstrated the feasibility of time-domain terahertz spectroscopy for the identification of Clenbuterol hydrochloride and provides a new way for the detection of Clenbuterol hydrochloride.

The optical properties of elaidic acid in the THz band were investigated by using THz time-domain spectroscopy (THZ-TDS). The absorption and refractive index spectra in the frequency range from 0.5 to 2.5 THz were obtained at room temperature under nitrogen atmosphere, and the results show that elaidic acid had some characteristic absorption peaks, and the average refractive index of the sample was 1.43. The structure and vibrational frequencies of elaidic acid molecule in the THz range were simulated by the B3LYP algorithm of density functional theory, and the THz characteristic absorption peaks of elaidic acid molecule were identified by using Gaussian View software. The results show that the experimental and theoretical results agree in general, and the observed absorption peaks in the THz range were mainly caused by the intramolecular and intermolecular vibrations jointly. At the same time, the fingerprint spectra of elaidic acid in the THz band verify that the time-domain terahertz spectroscopy can be used to detect oleic acid, and this study provides a new experimental method for the detection of trans fatty acids in food.

The present paper reports the theoretical and experimental vibrational frequencies of L-ascorbic acid in the frequency range from 0.2 to 2.4 THz respectively. The vibrational frequencies of L-ascorbic acid in the THz range were simulated by Becke-3-Lee-Yang-Parr (B3LYP) algorithm of density functional theory. Simultaneously, the absorption and refractive index spectra of L-ascorbic acid were obtained using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS). Based on the results from density functional calculations, the observed vibrational peaks were assigned with the aid of Gaussian View 3.07. Finally, the tera-hertz absorption spectra of tablets of vitamin C were compared with those of L-ascorbic acid. It was found that L-ascorbic acid had some distinct fingerprint spectra in the THz region and the theoretical results were in good agreement with the experimental results. The observed vibrational peaks were induced jointly by the intramolecular and intermolecular vibrations. The absorption peaks of L-ascorbic acid could be observed in the absorption spectra of the tablets of vitamin C. Our research is helpful to understanding the role of L-ascorbic acid in biological reactions. Still, the research results show the potential of the application of THz-TDS in the quantification of L-ascorbic acid.

Terahertz radiation generated by ultra short laser pulses has a broad band width in the far-infrared range. Terahertz wave interacting with materials is a new research field. In this paper, we performed measurement of absorption coefficient and refractive index of imidacloprid in the frequency range 0.2-2.0 THz at room temperature by THz-TDS. The results indicate that imidacloprid has absorption fingerprints in this frequency range, and the absorption coefficient increases with the frequency. The average refractive index of imidacloprid is 1.65, and the refractive index of imidacloprid increases slightly with frequency. A semi-empirical theory was applied to obtain the structure and vibrational frequencies of the imidacloprid molecules in THz region. The calculated results agree well with the experimental data. The absorption features are caused by the collective vibrational and torsional modes, and different absorption peaks correspond to different vibrational modes. The comparison between experimental and theoretical study shows that far-infrared absorption features are highly sensitive to the structure and spatial arrangement of the molecules. THz-TDS is a potential tool to understand the collective vibrational modes and conformational structures of biomolecules.
