RESUMO

A study was made of a possibility to use subtotal irradiation (STI) as an equivalent of chemotherapy for the treatment of 33 Hodgkin's disease patients aged 17 to 77 (of them 25 were treated during the 1st-19th yrs. of therapy, for 8 patients it was the 1st stage of antitumor therapy). ROKUS apparatus and a linear accelerator of 15 MeV were used for irradiation at a single dose of 1.5 Gy and a total dose of 3-6 Gy, at a 2-4 day interval. STI efficacy was assessed by a response of the peripheral and intrathoracic lymph nodes, tumor foci in the lungs, by a decrease in liver and spleen sizes, a decrease in body temperature and the end of night sweating. Of 25 patients a positive effect was achieved in 19, in 4 patients it was absent, and in 2 patients disease progression was observed. A marked positive effect was noted in 8 previously untreated patients, especially with respect to the elimination of signs of intoxication. A conclusion has been made that STI can be employed for the treatment of Hodgkin's disease patients as a method of general cytostatic action. STI causes a more noticeable and prolonged leukopenia than a cycle of polychemotherapy.

RESUMO

Biologically equivalent doses with various single values, fractionation, irradiated areas, relative biological efficacy, the time of radiation therapy for schedules of intracavitary and gamma-beam radiotherapy were determined for concomitant radiotherapy of rectal cancer patients. A radiation effect implementation factor was introduced making it possible to sum up equivalent dose values in critical points and to obtain equivalent isodose distributions.

RESUMO

The paper is devoted to a comparative analysis of dose distributions occurring during combined radiation therapy of patients with endometrial cancer. A dosimetric analysis has shown that the level of absorbed doses in a primary tumor focus is most adequately evaluated with taking due account of dose exposures in points M but not in points A. Besides it was established that the level of radiation exposure in the irradiated organ can be changed by the individual selection of schemes for the intracavitary placement of 60Co sources of higher activity. A comparative analysis of dose distributions occurring in different methods of gamma-beam irradiation of patients was made. It has been shown that the use of the shaped fields of matrix formation provides optimum dose distribution in pathological foci and organs neighbouring with the uterus.

RESUMO

The authors have worked out a technique of control over depth dose fields of the maxillofacial area by placing detectors of a hermoluminescent dosimeter and an ionisation chamber on an individual protective cast in preset points. This simple device makes it possible to exercise an effective and multiple computerized control over the distribution of depth doses.

RESUMO

A series of dose maps have been obtained on the basis of typical isodose maps for moving irradiation of patients with oral tumors, the doses being selected with the help of a specialized computer and dose calculation program for computer ES 1020: in the main cross-sectional plane going through a tumor (y = 0) and in parallel planes 1 cm above [y = -(1-4)] and below [y = -(1-4)] from the main plane within the limits of an irradiation field -1 cm, dose fields have been formed in the sagittal (parasagittal) plane extending through the center of a tumor.
