RESUMO

In the pursuit of next-generation ultrahigh-energy-density Li-O2 batteries, it is imperative to develop an electrolyte with stability against the strong oxidation environments. N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMA) is a recognized solvent known for its robust resistance to the highly reactive reduced oxygen species, yet its application in Li-O2 batteries has been constrained due to its poor compatibility with the Li metal anode. In this study, a rationally selected hydrofluoroether diluent, methyl nonafluorobutyl ether (M3), has been introduced into the DMA-based electrolyte to construct a localized high concentration electrolyte. The stable -CH3 and C-F bonds within the M3 structure could not only augment the fundamental properties of the electrolyte but also fortify its resilience against attacks from O2- and 1O2. Additionally, the strong electron-withdrawing groups (-F) presented in the M3 diluent could facilitate coordination with the electron-donating groups (-CH3) in the DMA solvent. This intermolecular interaction promotes more alignment of Li+-anions with a small amount of M3 addition, leading to the construction of an anion-derived inorganic-rich SEI that enhances the stability of the Li anode. As a result, the Li-O2 batteries with the DMA/M3 electrolyte exhibit superior cycling performance at both 30 °C (359th) and -10 °C (120th).

OBJECTIVES: This study was designed to explore and validate the value of different machine learning models based on ultrasound image-omics features in the preoperative diagnosis of lymph node metastasis in pancreatic cancer (PC). METHODS: This research involved 189 individuals diagnosed with PC confirmed by surgical pathology (training cohort: n = 151; test cohort: n = 38), including 50 cases of lymph node metastasis. Image-omics features were extracted from ultrasound images. After dimensionality reduction and screening, eight machine learning algorithms, including logistic regression (LR), support vector machine (SVM), K-nearest neighbors (KNN), random forest (RF), extra trees (ET), extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), light gradient boosting machine (LightGBM), and multilayer perceptron (MLP), were used to establish image-omics models to predict lymph node metastasis in PC. The best omics prediction model was selected through ROC curve analysis. Machine learning models were used to analyze clinical features and determine variables to establish a clinical model. A combined model was constructed by combining ultrasound image-omics and clinical features. Decision curve analysis (DCA) and a nomogram were used to evaluate the clinical application value of the model. RESULTS: A total of 1561 image-omics features were extracted from ultrasound images. 15 valuable image-omics features were determined by regularization, dimension reduction, and algorithm selection. In the image-omics model, the LR model showed higher prediction efficiency and robustness, with an area under the ROC curve (AUC) of 0.773 in the training set and an AUC of 0.850 in the test set. The clinical model constructed by the boundary of lesions in ultrasound images and the clinical feature CA199 (AUC = 0.875). The combined model had the best prediction performance, with an AUC of 0.872 in the training set and 0.918 in the test set. The combined model showed better clinical benefit according to DCA, and the nomogram score provided clinical prediction solutions. CONCLUSION: The combined model established with clinical features has good diagnostic ability and can be used to predict lymph node metastasis in patients with PC. It is expected to provide an effective noninvasive method for clinical decision-making, thereby improving the diagnosis and treatment of PC.

Genetic mutations leading to premature termination codons are known to have detrimental effects. Using the Lepidoptera model insect, the silkworm (Bombyx mori), we explored the genetic compensatory response triggered by mutations with premature termination codons. Additionally, we delved into the molecular mechanisms associated with the nonsense-mediated mRNA degradation pathway. CRISPR/Cas9 technology was utilized to generate a homozygous bivoltine silkworm line BmTrpA1-/- with a premature termination. Transcript levels were assessed for the BmTrpA paralogs, BmPyrexia and BmPainless as well as for the essential factors Upf1, Upf2, and Upf3a involved in the nonsense-mediated mRNA degradation (NMD) pathway. Upf2 was specifically knocked down via RNA interference at the embryonic stage. The results comfirmed that the BmTrpA1 transcripts with a 2-base deletion generating a premature termination codon in the BmTrpA1-/- line. From day 6 of embryonic development, the mRNA levels of BmPyrexia, BmPainless, Upf1, and Upf2 were significantly elevated in the gene-edited line. Embryonic knockdown of Upf2 resulted in the suppression of the genetic compensation response in the mutant. As a result, the offspring silkworm eggs were able to hatch normally after 10 days of incubation, displaying a non-diapause phenotype. It was observed that a genetic compensation response does exist in BmTrpA1-/-B. mori. This study presents a novel discovery of the NMD-mediated genetic compensation response in B. mori. The findings offer new insights into understanding the genetic compensation response and exploring the gene functions in lepidopteran insects, such as silkworms.

Prussian blue analogs (PBAs) as insertion-type cathodes have attracted significant attention in various aqueous batteries to accommodate metal or non-metal ions while suffering from serious dissolution and consequent inferior lifespan. Herein, we reveal that the dissolution of PBAs primarily originates from the locally elevated pH of electrolytes that are caused by proton co-insertion during discharge. To address this issue, a water-locking electrolyte (WLE) has been strategically implemented, which interrupts the generation and Grotthuss diffusion of protons by breaking the well-connected hydrogen bonding network in aqueous electrolytes. As a result, the WLE enables the iron hexacyanoferrate to endure over 1000 cycles at a 1C rate and supports a high-voltage decoupled cell with an average voltage of 1.95 V. These findings provide insights for mitigating dissolution problems in electrode materials, thereby enhancing the viability and performance of aqueous batteries.

The structural characteristics of fucoidans exhibit species and regional diversity. Previous studies have demonstrated that Laminaria japonica- and Ascophyllum nodosum-derived fucoidans have type I and type II fucosyl chains, respectively. These chemical differences may contribute to distinct hypolipidemic effects and mechanisms of action. Chemical analysis demonstrated that the percentage contents of sulfate, glucuronic acid, and galactose were higher in L. japonica-derived fucoidans than those of A. nodosum-derived fucoidans. In hyperlipidemic apolipoprotein E-deficient mice, both A. nodosum- and L. japonica-derived fucoidans significantly decreased the plasma and hepatic levels of total cholesterol and triglyceride, leading to the reduction of atherosclerotic plaques. Western blotting experiments demonstrated that these fucoidans significantly enhanced the expression and levels of scavenger receptor B type 1, cholesterol 7 alpha-hydroxylase A1, and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)-α, contributing to circulating lipoprotein clearance and fatty acid degradation, respectively. Differentially, L. japonica-derived fucoidan significantly increased the LXR/ATP-binding cassette G8 signaling pathway in the small intestine, as revealed by real-time quantitative PCR, which may lead to further cholesterol and other lipid excretion. Collectively, these data are useful for understanding the hypolipidemic mechanisms of action of seaweed-derived fucoidans, and their potential application for the prevention and/or treatment of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases.

Li-O2 batteries (LOBs) possess the highest theoretical gravimetric energy density among all types of secondary batteries, but they are still far from practical applications. The poor rate performance resulting from the slow mass transfer is one of the primary obstacles in LOBs. To solve this issue, a rotating cathode with periodic changes in the electrolyte layer thickness is designed, decoupling the maximum transfer rate of Li+ and O2. During rotation, the thinner electrolyte layer on the cathode facilitates the O2 transfer, and the thicker electrolyte layer enhances the Li+ transfer. As a result, the rotating cathode enables the LOBs to undergo 58 cycles at 2.5 mA cm-2 and discharge stably even at a high current density of 7.5 mA cm-2. Besides, it also makes the batteries exhibit a large discharge capacity of 6.8 mAh cm-2, and the capacity decay is much slower with increasing current density. Notably, this rotating electrode holds great promise for utilization in other electrochemical cells involving gas-liquid-solid triple-phase interfaces, suggesting a viable approach to enhance the mass transfer in such systems.

Objective: Currently, sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) is increasingly used in endometrial cancer, but the rate of missed metastatic lymph nodes compared to systemic lymph node dissection has been a concern. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the false negative rate (FNR) of SLNB in patients with endometrial cancer and to explore the risk factors associated with this FNR. Data sources: Three databases (PubMed, Embase, Web of Science) were searched from initial database build to January 2023 by two independent reviewers. Research eligibility criteria: Studies were included if they included 10 or more women diagnosed with International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage I or higher endometrial cancer, the study technique used sentinel lymph node localization biopsy, and the reported outcome metrics included false negative and/or FNR. Study appraisal and synthesis methods: Two authors independently reviewed the abstracts and full articles. The FNR and factors associated with FNR were synthesized through random-effects meta-analyses and meta-regression. The results: We identified 62 eligible studies. The overall FNR for the 62 articles was 4% (95% CL 3-5).There was no significant difference in the FNR in patients with high-risk endometrial cancer compared to patients with low-risk endometrial cancer. There was no difference in the FNR for whether frozen sections were used intraoperatively. The type of dye used intraoperatively (indocyanine green/blue dye) were not significantly associated with the false negative rate. Cervical injection reduced the FNR compared with alternative injection techniques. Indocyanine green reduced the FNR compared with alternative Tc-99m. Postoperative pathologic ultrastaging reduced the FNR. Conclusions: Alternative injection techniques (other than the cervix), Tc-99m dye tracer, and the absence of postoperative pathologic ultrastaging are risk factors for a high FNR in endometrial cancer patients who undergo SLNB; therefore, we should be vigilant for missed diagnosis of metastatic lymph nodes after SLNB in such populations. Background: Persistent infection with high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) can lead to cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and cancer. At present, there is no medication that specifically targets HR-HPV infection. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of different interventions in promoting HR-HPV regression using a MeSH meta-analysis method. Methods: A search for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) reporting different interventions for the treatment of HR-HPV infection included PubMed, Web of Science, Embase and Cochrane Library from the inception of the databases to March 8, 2023. Two researchers independently screened the articles, extracted data, and evaluated the quality. The literature that met the inclusion criteria was selected, the quality and risk of bias of the included studies were assessed according to the Cochrane 5.1 manual, and NMA was performed using Stata 16.0. The area under the cumulative ranking probability graph (SUCRA) represented the probability that each treatment would be the best intervention. Results: Nine studies involving 961 patients and 7 treatment options were included in the analysis. The results of the network meta-analysis indicated the following rank order in terms of promoting HR-HPV conversion: Anti-HPV biological dressing > vaginal gel > imiquimod > REBACIN® > interferon > probiotics > observation/placebo > Polyphenon E. Conclusion: Anti-HPV biological dressing treatment was found to be significantly effective in promoting HR-HPV conversion. However, further validation of the findings is necessary due to the limited number and quality of studies included in the analysis. Objective: Thermal ablation is a commonly used therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Nevertheless, inadequate ablation can lead to the survival of residual HCC, potentially causing rapid progression. The underlying mechanisms for this remain unclear. This study explores the molecular mechanism responsible for the rapid progression of residual HCC. Methods: We established an animal model of inadequate ablation in BALB/c nude mice and identified a key transcriptional regulator through high-throughput sequencing. Subsequently, we conducted further investigations on RAD21. We evaluated the expression and clinical significance of RAD21 in HCC and studied its impact on HCC cell function through various assays, including CCK-8, wound healing, Transwell migration and invasion. In vitro experiments established an incomplete ablation model verifying RAD21 expression and function. Using ChIP-seq, we determined potential molecules regulated by RAD21 and investigated how RAD21 influences residual tumor development. Results: High RAD21 expression in HCC was confirmed and correlated with low tumor cell differentiation, tumor growth, and portal vein thrombosis. Silencing RAD21 inhibited the migration, invasion, and proliferation significantly in liver cancer cells. Patients with high RAD21 levels showed elevated multiple inhibitory immune checkpoint levels and a lower response rate to immune drugs. Heat treatment intensified the malignant behavior of liver cancer cells, resulting in increased migration, invasion, and proliferation. After subjecting it to heat treatment, the results indicated elevated RAD21 levels in HCC. Differentially expressed molecules regulated by RAD21 following incomplete ablation were primarily associated with the VEGF signaling pathway, focal adhesion, angiogenesis, and hepatocyte growth factor receptor signaling pathway etc. Conclusion: The upregulation of RAD21 expression after incomplete ablation may play a crucial role in the rapid development of residual tumors and could serve as a novel therapeutic target.

BACKGROUND: Poor Bell's phenomenon is often considered a relative contraindication for ptosis surgery, as it increases the risk of corneal exposure and dry eye symptoms after surgery. However, the Bell's phenomenon may vary in different individuals and sleep stages, making it inaccurate to predict the position of the eye during sleep based on awake examination. This study aimed to investigate the role of Bell's phenomenon in ptosis surgery and the management of nocturnal lagophthalmos. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective case series of 23 patients with ptosis and poor Bell's phenomenon who underwent different surgical techniques at Xijing Hospital from April 2020 to June 2021. We assessed Bell's phenomenon at different stages of sleep and collected data on ptosis degree, surgical approach, lagophthalmos, complications, and outcomes. RESULTS: Of the total 23 patients originally considered for study, 9 with frontalis muscle advancement technique, 8 with conjoint fascial sheath suspension, 4 with levator resection technique, and 2 with levator aponeurosis plication technique. All patients achieved satisfactory correction of ptosis. One patient had prolonged lagophthalmos and underwent reoperation to lower the eyelid height. Other complications were minor and resolved with conservative treatment. CONCLUSION: We conclude that poor Bell's phenomenon is not a relative contraindication for ptosis surgery. Nocturnal lagophthalmos should be monitored after ptosis surgery regardless of the Bell's phenomenon results. Tape eyelid closure can be an effective solution to protect the corneal surface during nocturnal lagophthalmos. BACKGROUND: Bulbar conjunctival prolapse is one of the complications of conjoint fascial sheath (CFS) suspension and has a negative impact on surgical results. To explore the prevention methods of this complication, the authors compared the incidence of it between the below-conjunctiva fornix-bulbar conjunctiva-Tenon capsule (CBT) approach and the above-CBT approach to dissecting CFS in CFS suspension and shared their experience in the treatment of bulbar conjunctival prolapse. METHODS: From January of 2020 to August of 2021, 81 patients with severe congenital ptosis who underwent CFS suspension were enrolled and divided into two groups. Forty-five patients' (group A) CFS was dissected by means of the below-CBT approach and 36 patients' (group B) CFS was dissected by means of the above-CBT approach. Data regarding the incidence and outcomes of bulbar conjunctival prolapse and the postoperative condition were collected and analyzed. RESULTS: The incidence of bulbar conjunctival prolapse was 24.44% in group A and 2.78% in group B. Of the 12 bulbar conjunctival prolapse patients, seven patients' conditions improved after conservative treatment, and five did not. All of them underwent bulbar conjunctiva resection within 1 year and were cured. No recurrent prolapse was observed within 3 months postoperatively. At the last follow-up, the mean marginal reflex distance 1 and palpebral fissure height were 4.09 ± 0.19 mm and 9.85 ± 0.62 mm, respectively. There were no complications except lagophthalmos (16 eyelids), asymmetric eyelid contour (one patient), and trichiasis (two eyelids). CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of bulbar conjunctival prolapse decreased significantly by dissecting CFS by means of the above-CBT approach. For patients with bulbar conjunctival prolapse after CFS suspension, bulbar conjunctiva resection could provide satisfactory results. CLINICAL QUESTION/LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Therapeutic, IV.

BACKGROUND: Lagophthalmos, a common complication after blepharoptosis correction, has plagued oculoplastic surgeons. The goal of this study was to investigate the effect of tape eyelid closure on reducing the occurrence of lagophthalmos after blepharoptosis correction. METHODS: From April 2020 to June 2021, a total of 112 patients with severe congenital ptosis received corrective surgery at the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Xijing Hospital, Fourth Military Medical University. Of these, 48 underwent frontalis muscle advancement technique and 64 underwent conjoint fascial sheath suspension. Preoperative data collected included demographics, levator function, Bell's phenomenon, and marginal reflex distance 1 (MRD1). Postoperative data included surgery type, MRD1, eyelid closure function, aesthetic outcomes (including eyelid contour, eyelid symmetry, and eyelid crease), keratitis, and other complications. RESULTS: Frontalis muscle advancement technique group: the median of safe eye closure time was 7.3 months (positive Bell's phenomenon; interquartile range [IQR], 3.8-10.8 months) and 13.9 months (poor Bell's phenomenon; IQR, 11.6-16.1 months). There was a significant improvement between the preoperative and postoperative MRD1 (-1.52 ± 0.82 vs 3.85 ± 0.58 mm, P < 0.05). Conjoint fascial sheath suspension group: the median of safe eye closure time was 5.7 months (positive Bell's phenomenon; IQR, 2.9-8.5 months) and 12.4 months (poor Bell's phenomenon; IQR, 8.1-16.7 months). There was a significant improvement between the preoperative and postoperative MRD1 (-1.02 ± 0.91 vs 4.15 ± 1.03 mm, P < 0.05). All patients/guardians were satisfied with the aesthetic outcomes. CONCLUSIONS: Tape tarsorrhaphy is a safe, easy-to-learn method for treating lagophthalmos with a good aesthetic outcome.

BACKGROUND: Severe congenital ptosis is a common ocular deformity in pediatric patients that can significantly impact visual development and aesthetic appearance, leading to negative psychosocial outcomes. The frontalis muscle advancement technique is a well-established surgical treatment for severe congenital ptosis. Aesthetic changes of the brow-eye continuum often plays an important role in ptosis surgery. METHODS: We conducted a single-center retrospective case series study of patients with severe congenital ptosis who underwent the frontalis muscle advancement technique at the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Xijing Hospital, Fourth Military Medical University between April 2020 and June 2021. The study aimed to evaluate the aesthetic changes of the eyebrow-eyelid continuum after surgery. The main outcome measurements included marginal reflex distance 1, palpebral fissure height, eyebrow position, upper eyelid to lower eyebrow distance, lower eyelid to upper eyebrow distance, and nasal base to lower eyelid distance. RESULTS: The study included 48 patients (66 eyelids), with 30 unilateral and 18 bilateral patients. Our analysis found that eyebrow height decreased by an average of 4.8% postoperatively relative to preoperatively in all patients. CONCLUSIONS: The frontalis muscle advancement technique has demonstrated effectiveness in achieving aesthetically pleasing outcomes in children with severe ptosis. It is crucial to pay careful attention to the brow-eye continuum during the correction process, as its harmony can greatly impact the final result.

OBJECTIVE@#To explore the clinical characteristics and genetic variant of a patient with desminopathy manifesting with atypical symptoms.@*METHODS@#A patient who was admitted to the Department of Neurology of Jing'an District Central Hospital on February 24, 2021 was selected as the study subject. Clinical data, laboratory tests, muscle pathology, muscle magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and genetic testing of the patient were retrospectively analyzed.@*RESULTS@#The patient had developed myalgia after lower limb activity, and gradually developed asymmetrical muscle weakness and atrophy of the lower limbs. Cardiac examination revealed atrioventricular block and decreased left ventricular diastolic function. Muscle MRI showed that semitendinosus, sartorius, gracilis, fibula, gastronemius and supinator muscles were selectively involved at the early stage. Muscle biopsy confirmed pathological changes of desmin positive myofibrils. Genetic testing revealed that the patient has harbored a c.1024A>G (p.n342d) missense variant in exon 6 of the DES gene. Based on the guidelines from the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG), the variant was rated as likely pathogenic (PS4_moderate+PM2_supporting+PP3_moderate+PP1).@*CONCLUSION@#Desmin disease has a great clinical heterogeneity. Postexercise myalgia of lower limbs is a rare clinical phenotype. For patients harboring the c.1024A>G (p.n342d) variant of the DES gene, in addition to semitendinosus and fibula, Cardiac involvement is relatively insidious and easy to be ignored in clinic. Timely muscle MRI, muscle biopsy and gene detection will help the early diagnosis of the disease.

The slow reaction kinetics and structural instability of organic electrode materials limit the further performance improvement of aqueous zinc-organic batteries. Herein, we have synthesized a Z-folded hydroxyl polymer polytetrafluorohydroquinone (PTFHQ) with inert hydroxyl groups that could be partially oxidized to the active carbonyl groups through the in situ activation process and then undertake the storage/release of Zn2+ . In the activated PTFHQ, the hydroxyl groups and S atoms enlarge the electronegativity region near the electrochemically active carbonyl groups, enhancing their electrochemical activity. Simultaneously, the residual hydroxyl groups could act as hydrophilic groups to enhance the electrolyte wettability while ensuring the stability of the polymer chain in the electrolyte. Also, the Z-folded structure of PTFHQ plays an important role in reversible binding with Zn2+ and fast ion diffusion. All these benefits make the activated PTFHQ exhibit a high specific capacity of 215 mAh g-1 at 0.1 A g-1 , over 3400 stable cycles with a capacity retention of 92 %, and an outstanding rate capability of 196 mAh g-1 at 20 A g-1 .

Oxidative stress-induced lens epithelial cells (LECs) death plays a pivotal role in age-related cataract (ARC) with severe visual impairment, in which ferroptosis is gradually receiving numerous attention resulting from lipid peroxide accumulation and reactive oxygen species (ROS) overproduction. However, the essential pathogenic factors and the targeted medical strategies still remain skeptical and indistinct. In this work, by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis, the major pathological courses in the LECs of ARC patients have been identified as ferroptosis, which was manifested with remarkable mitochondrial alterations, and similar results were found in aged mice (24-month-old). Furthermore, the primary pathological processes in the NaIO3-induced mice and HLE-B3 cell model have also been verified to be ferroptosis with an irreplaceable function of Nrf2, proved by the increased sensitivity to ferroptosis when Nrf2 was blocked in Nrf2-KO mice and si-Nrf2-treated HLE-B3 cells. Importantly, it has been found that an increased expression of GSK-3ß was indicated in low-Nrf2-expressed tissues and cells. Subsequently, the contributions of abnormal GSK-3ß expression to NaIO3-induced mice and HLE-B3 cell model were further evaluated, inhibition of GSK-3ß utilizing SB216763 significantly alleviated LECs ferroptosis with less iron accumulation and ROS generation, as well as reversed expression alterations of ferroptosis markers, including GPX4, SLC7A11, SLC40A1, FTH1 and TfR1, in vitro and in vivo. Collectively, our findings conclude that targeting GSK-3ß/Nrf2 balance might be a promising therapeutic strategy to mitigate LECs ferroptosis and thus probably delay the pathogenesis and development of ARC.

BACKGROUND: For moderate ptosis associated with fair levator function (LF), the levator resection is the most commonly used procedure. However, the levator resection technique still has some disadvantages, such as residual lagophthalmos (RL), undercorrection, conjunctival prolapse, and eyelid contour abnormality. To solve the above problems, our team have made modifications to the levator resection technique in three aspects: releasing the levator muscle sufficiently, preserving the supporting structure of the conjunctiva, and placing multiple suture sites. METHODS: Fifty-seven patients (81 eyes) underwent the modified levator resection technique and were enrolled in the study. Preoperative data collected included age, sex, margin reflex distance 1 (MRD1), and LF. Postoperative data collected included MRD1, RL, patient satisfaction, complications, and length of follow-up. RESULTS: Mean MRD1 significantly increased from 1.45 ± 0.65 mm preoperatively to 3.57 ± 0.51 mm postoperatively. Mean LF significantly increased from 6.49 ± 1.12 mm preoperatively to 9.48 ± 1.39 mm postoperatively. Successful correction was obtained in 77 eyes (95.1%). Mean RL was 1.09 ± 0.57 and 72 eyes (88.9%) showed excellent or good eyelid closure function. Fifty-four patients (94.7%) were completely satisfied with the final result. Complications such as hematoma, infection, conjunctival prolapse, suture exposure, corneal abrasion, and keratitis were not found in any cases during follow-up. CONCLUSION: This modified levator resection technique introduced in this study is effective in correcting moderate congenital blepharoptosis, while minimizing RL, undercorrection, conjunctival prolapse, eyelid contour abnormality by releasing the levator muscle sufficiently, preserving the supporting structure of the conjunctiva, and placing multiple suture sites. BACKGROUND: The conventional frontalis muscle advancement technique still has some disadvantages, such as residual lagophthalmos, eyebrow ptosis, eyelid contour abnormality, and undercorrection. This article describes the authors' extended frontalis muscle advancement technique, which takes extensive subcutaneous separation through the eyelid crease incision for the treatment of severe congenital blepharoptosis. METHODS: A retrospective review was performed that included patients with severe congenital ptosis who underwent extended frontalis muscle advancement technique from April of 2019 to April of 2021. Preoperative evaluation included age, sex, and margin reflex distance 1, levator function, and lagophthalmos. Postoperative evaluation including correction result, closure function of eyelid, and cosmetic result was performed at the last follow-up. RESULTS: From April of 2019 to April of 2021, a total of 102 patients (137 eyes) who underwent extended frontalis muscle advancement technique were included in the study. The mean postoperative margin reflex distance 1 in unilateral and bilateral ptosis patients was 3.84 ± 0.60 mm and 3.86 ± 0.56, respectively, and 126 eyes (92.0%) showed successful correction. Postoperatively, the mean residual lagophthalmos was 0.88 ± 1.40 mm, and 127 eyes (92.7%) showed excellent or good eyelid closure function. The average score of cosmetic results was 8.29 ± 1.34, and 94 patients (92.2%) had an excellent or good cosmetic result. CONCLUSIONS: Extensive subcutaneous separation relieves the mutual restriction between the forehead skin and frontalis muscle. The extended frontalis muscle advancement technique is effective in correcting severe congenital ptosis, and minimizes undercorrection, residual lagophthalmos, eyelid contour abnormality, and eyebrow ptosis. Oral squamous cell carcinoma is the sixth most common malignant tumor in the world, and the clinical treatment effect is not satisfactory. Because of the special nature of its location, oral cancer is inextricably linked with a wide variety of microorganisms, and its pathogenesis and development are also extremely susceptible to microbial regulation. In addition, the mediating role of the immune system is also indispensable to the course of tumor pathogenesis and development, especially tumor-associated macrophages, which amplify the regulatory role of microorganisms, and in turn regulate the microbial population components--two complementary effects that jointly exacerbate oral cancer. Herein, we summarized the existing research on the relationship between microorganisms and macrophages, as well as the regulatory role of microorganisms and macrophages in the pathogenesis and development of oral cancer. We also discussed the current status of and gaps in research on the relationship between microorganisms and macrophages and oral cancer. Both microorganisms and macrophages are considered promising indicators for prognosis, showing potentials to be used as new therapeutic targets. Despite some research interest in the role of microorganisms and macrophages in oral cancer, very few studies have linked them to oral precancerous lesions, and the mutual regulatory relationship between microorganisms and macrophages remains unclear. Therefore, in-depth exploration of the relationship network of microorganisms, macrophages and oral cancer is expected to provide more possibilities for the early diagnosis and treatment of tumors.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) often occurs following chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, leading to high recurrence and a low 5-year survival rate. We developed an overall survival (OS) prediction model based on protein expression profiles in HBV-infected nontumor liver tissues. We aimed to demonstrate the feasibility of using protein expression profiles in nontumor liver tissues for survival prediction. A univariate Cox and differential expression analysis were performed to identify candidate prognostic factors. A multivariate Cox analysis was performed to develop the liver gene prognostic index (LGPI). The survival differences between the different risk groups in the training and validation cohorts were also estimated. A total of 363 patients, 159 in the training cohort, and 204 in the validation cohort were included. Of the 6478 proteins extracted from nontumor liver tissues, we identified 1275 proteins altered between HCC and nontumor liver tissues. A total of 1090 out of 6478 proteins were significantly related to OS. The prognostic values of the proteins in nontumor tissues were mostly positively related to those in the tumor tissues. Protective proteins were mainly enriched in the metabolism-related pathways. From the differentially expressed proteins, the top 10 most significant prognosis-related proteins were submitted for LGPI construction. In the training and validation cohorts, this LGPI showed a great ability for distinguishing patients' OS risk stratifications. After adjusting for clinicopathological features, the LGPI was an independent prognostic factor in the training and validation cohorts. We demonstrated the prognostic value of protein expression profiling in nontumor liver tissues. The proposed LGPI was a promising predictive model for estimating OS in HBV-related HCC.
