RESUMO

BACKGROUND: During the occurrence of accidents and disasters, the role of hospitals and healthcare centers is very sensitive and they are among the first units that with their quick, optimal, and timely healthcare services provision can reduce mortality and increase the number of survivors. For this purpose, this study was conducted to investigate the knowledge, attitude, and level of preparedness of operating room technologists of educational hospitals of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences in relation to disasters. MATERIALS AND METHOD: The present research is a cross-sectional descriptive study that was conducted with the participation of 60 operating room technologists of Zahedan educational hospitals from January 2022 to December 2022. The sampling was performed by the census method. The data collection tool was a demographic characteristic and a researcher-made questionnaire for the assessment of attitude, knowledge, and preparation against the occurrences of accidents and disasters was completed during 2 months by referring the researcher to the hospitals. For the data analysis, descriptive statistics and analytical statistical tests were used. The data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 26. Corp., Armonk, NY, USA. The significance level was considered P < 0.05. RESULTS: The results showed that the average scores of attitude, preparation, and knowledge are 9.3 ± 6.1, 75.8 ± 9.9, and 5.7 ± 4.1, respectively, and the majority of operating room technologists have a favorable level towards attitude and have relatively favorable level towards preparation and knowledge during the occurrence of disasters. The average score of knowledge and attitude of operating room technologists with work history had a significant difference from each other (P < 0.05). technologists with less work experience have more knowledge and a more positive attitudedisaster. CONCLUSION: Measuring the level of knowledge, attitude, and preparedness of surgical technologists to deal with disasters as one of the ways of receiving feedback from employee training can be a useful reflection of the success of training programs in creating the necessary capabilities in various fields of disaster preparedness, and it can be a powerful tool for increasing individual and group dynamics and organizing individual learning in coping training. Furthermore, disaster education should be incorporated into the operating room curriculum, which would play a seminal role in preparing them for future disaster management. It is also suggested to investigate the impact of intelligent training on the level of knowledge, attitude, and preparation of operating room personnel regarding disasters and obstacles in this regard in future research.

RESUMO

Chronic kidney disease is a significant public health problem worldwide. However, the causes of chronic kidney disease in Iran are unclear. This systematic review and meta-analysis identified the causes of chronic kidney disease in the general population of Iran. International databases (PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar) and national databases (Scientific Information Database and Magiran) were searched for studies published until March 1, 2018. The quality of the studies was assessed using the checklist developed by Hoy et al. Of 2518 retrieved studies, 26 studies involving 34,683 patients with chronic kidney disease stages 1 to 5 were included in the meta-analysis. The mean age of the cohort was 53.6±15.02 years. The results of the random-effects model showed that the three leading causes of chronic kidney disease were diabetes, hypertension, and glomerulonephritis, with an overall prevalence of 27.7%, 27.6%, and 6.4%, respectively. These results indicate the importance of addressing these risk factors at the national level to reduce disease prevalence.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Despite the high prevalence of coronavirus and various treatment approaches, including complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), there is still no definitive treatment for coronavirus. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of CAM interventions on COVID-19 patients. CONTENT: Four databases (Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus, and EMBASE) were searched from the inception of databases until July 16, 2020. Keywords included complementary and alternative medicine therapies and Coronavirus. SUMMARY AND OUTLOOK: Of the 1,137 studies searched, 14 studies performed on 972 COVID-19 patients entered the systematic review final stage. The results showed that different CAM interventions (acupuncture, Traditional Chinese medicine [TCM], relaxation, Qigong) significantly improved various psychological symptoms (depression, anxiety, stress, sleep quality, negative emotions, quality of life) and physical symptoms (inflammatory factors, physical activity, chest pain, and respiratory function) in COVID-19 patients. The results showed that various CAM interventions have a positive effect on improving the various dimensions of coronavirus disease but since there are few studies in this regard, further studies using different CAM approaches are recommended.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: This study was performed to determine the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of health care workers (HCWs) towards radiation protection. METHODS: In this systematic review study, three international databases (Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus) were searched for related published articles in the English language from 1 January 2000 to 1 February 2020. The quality of the included studies was evaluated using the Hoy et al. tool. RESULTS: Out of the 1,848 studies examined, 41 studies that were performed on 11,050 HCWs were included in the final stage. The results indicated that in most studies, more than half (50%) of the participants had average knowledge. Furthermore, 60% of the participants had a positive attitude, but in most studies, they had average practice regarding radiation protection. The most important recommendation for improving KAP among the participants was incorporating radiation protection standards in the student curriculum. CONCLUSION: Considering the results of the study, further attention should be paid to proper education regarding radiation protection standards and improvement of HCW performance.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Although using time management skills is a major component of nursing professional practice, they have not received much attention. Time management training can improve the psychological and communication aspects of nursing care quality. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of time management skills training on the psychosocial and communication aspects of nursing care quality. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This semi-experimental study was conducted at Valiasr Hospital of Shahr Babak City, Kerman Province, in the Southeast of Iran, during 2018. The study population consisted of 100 nurses who were randomly assigned to one of the two groups: an intervention group or a control group. To identify and measure the outcomes, nurses' perceptions of the psychosocial and communication aspects of care quality were first assessed by the Quality Patient Care Scale (Qualpacs) at pretest. Then, the intervention group received the 2 days of training on time management skills for 12 h. The posttest outcome data were collected from both the groups 1 month after the intervention. RESULTS: No statistically significant differences were observed between the two groups with respect to the total mean scores of nursing care quality and its psychosocial and communication aspects before the intervention (t = 1.96, P = 0.09). However, there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups in this regard after the intervention, and the mean nursing care quality scores and its related aspects were improved in the intervention group (t = 5.76, P < 0.0001). CONCLUSIONS: The time management skills training could significantly improve psychosocial and communication aspects of nursing care quality. Health-care managers should allocate facilities to clinical training programs so that health-care professionals can acquire the time management skills. The higher effectiveness of time management training can be determined by its application in diverse domains of health care.
