RESUMO

Presented are the results of observation of lenses in 500 patients (aged 14-58 years, period of observation 3 months - 12 years) treated according to various schemes of immunosuppression (encorton + azathioprin, cyclosporin + encorton). One hundred and eighty patients were examined over and over again. A typical posterior subcortical cataract was detected in the course of the first examination in 25 patients, in the control one in 55. It appeared more frequently in patients who--because of the process of rejection of the kidney--received high doses of steroids (1.0 g) throughout several days. No dependence could be detected between the degree of opacity of the lens and the general doses of steroids and the period of their application.

RESUMO

Ophthalmological examinations were carried out in 42 patients (aged 16-45 years) after kidney transplantation in whom malignant hypertension was discovered before transplantation. The first funduscopy revealed pathological changes of various type and grade (I-IV), in 17 patients the visual acuity was lowered and in 18 the ERG record was pathological (residual or extinguished). The control examinations performed in 19 patients after 1-5 years showed that the changes typical for malignant hypertension receded in 7; the fundus of the rest of the patients was the same as before. The lack of improvement in the ERG record points to a permanent lesion of the retinal activity after passed malignant hypertension in spite of normalization of the arterial pressure.

RESUMO

Analysis of the clinical course of retinal degeneration in 40 patients in whom one suspected a retinal dystrophy "sine pigmento", a sector or unilateral dystrophy or a mixed conerod form. Eventually the diagnosis was possible only after performing a complex of investigations: the visual acuity, visual field, adaptation, the ERG and in some cases also the fluorescein angiography. No exact correlation between the results of a particular test could be established but the degree of abnormality of some of them was decisive for the moment of the first reference of the patient for examination by an ophthalmic specialist. In the course of observation the progress of the condition was evident but the dynamics of it was not the same and it was dependent on many factors.
