RESUMO

Notwithstanding the efforts injected in vascular tissue engineering in the past 30 years, the clinical translation of engineered artery constructs is far from being successful. One common approach to improve artery regeneration is the use of cyclic mechanical stimuli to guide cellular remodeling. However, there is a lack of information on the effect of cyclic strain on cells within a 3D environment. To this end, this work explored the effect of gradual increase in stimulation frequency on the response of human umbilical artery smooth muscle cells (HUASMCs) embedded in a 3D collagen matrix. The results demonstrate that, with an applied strain of 5%, the gradual increase of frequency from 0.1 to 1 Hz improved collagen remodeling by HUASMCs compared to samples constantly stimulated at 1 Hz. The expression of collagen, elastin and matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) genes was similar at 7 days for gradual and 1 Hz samples which showed lower amounts than static counterparts. Interestingly the mechanical properties of the constructs, specifically the amplitude of the time constants and the elastic equilibrium modulus, were enhanced by gradual increase of frequency. Taken together, these results show an increase in collagen remodeling by the HUASMCs overtime under incremental cyclic mechanical strain. This work suggests that only the in-depth investigation of the effects of stimulation parameters on the behavior of vSMC under cyclic strain in a 3D environment could lead to the design of optimized control strategies for enhanced vascular tissue generation and maturation in bioreactors.

RESUMO

The chloroniumyl cation, HCl+, has been recently identified in space from Herschel's spectra. A joint analysis of extensive vis-UV spectroscopy emission data together with a few high-resolution and high-accuracy millimiter-wave data provided the necessary rest frequencies to support the astronomical identification. Nevertheless, the analysis did not include any infrared (IR) vibration-rotation data. Furthermore, with the end of the Herschel mission, infrared observations from the ground may be one of the few available means to further study this ion in space. In this work, we provide a set of accurate rovibrational transition wavenumbers as well as a new and improved global fit of vis-UV, IR and millimiter-wave spectroscopy laboratory data, that will aid in future studies of this molecule.

Rotational transitions for two distinct structural isomers of allyltricarbonyliron bromide have been clearly observed in the cold molecular beam of a pulsed-beam Fourier transform microwave spectrometer. Rotational transitions exhibiting quadrupole splitting patterns for each isomer were measured for the 79Br and 81Br isotopomers. Both isomers are accidental near-prolate symmetric tops. The measured rotational constants for the 79Br isotopomer are A(anti) = 920.6148(2) MHz, B(anti) = 582.8866(12) MHz, C(anti) = 581.3027(12) MHz, A(syn) = 919.5055(1) MHz, B(syn) = 584.1865(1) MHz, and C(syn) = 581.6392(1) MHz. Analysis of the isotopic substitution data and possible transition assignments indicates that these molecules have Cs symmetry. Both isomers are found to have a dipole component along the a axis. However, the anti isomer has a "c" type dipole component, whereas a "b" dipole component is found for the syn isomer. It was found necessary to carefully analyze both rotational constants and the quadrupole coupling data in order to determine the correct assignment of dipole moment components for each isomer. This change in dipole assignments implies that there is a switch of inertial axes upon isomerization resulting from a subtle shift of the allyl center of mass coordinates, upon reorientation of the allyl ligand. The X-ray and DFT calculated structures for the anti isomer are in excellent agreement with the present data. No previous structural data for the syn isomer were available, and the present analysis strongly supports the expected conformation.

RESUMO

The campaign against smoking requires a dynamic attitude in the field. With this in mind, a study was conducted in 14 to 16 year old school-children in the Drôme region and a questionnaire was sent to all doctors in the region. The school survey confirmed the results obtained previously in similar studies, such as the high proportion of girls who smoke and the essential role of the family. There was no valorising element associated with cigarettes in young people. The aim of the questionnaire, which was sent to all doctors registered in the Drôme region (more than 800), was to encourage them to adopt a dynamic attitude towards smoking in their professional practice. The high reply rate was encouraging, even if not all of the doctors are ready for an aggressive campaign.
