RESUMO

The experience of medical rehabilitation conduction in 321 patients with mammarial gland cancer after mastectomy performance was summarized. Twenty five percent reduction of lymphorrhea, upper extremity oedema, branchial joint contracture were noted.

RESUMO

The raise of natural antitumoral resistance level, the reduction of intoxication severity, the raise of an organism tolerance to irradiation and polychemotherapy were permitted by adjuvant low-energy laser therapy absorption in the complex of treatment of 27 patients with colonic cancer in early postoperative period, 16--cervix uteri cancer while irradiation therapy conduction, and 14--with cutaneous melanoma during polychemotherapy.

RESUMO

The study deals with a complex approach to prognosis of hormone sensitivity in breast cancer patients on the basis of certain biological characteristics of tumor and the host. A number of clinical and morphological parameters were tested in 71 patients suffering breast tumors. The said parameters proved useful in determining hormone sensitivity and were used as a basis for indirect assay of estrogen receptors levels. Levels of estrogen (ER) and progesterone (PR) receptors and tumor sex chromatin (SC) were measured in 46 patients. Indirect determination of ER level should be recommended as an additional criterion for evaluating hormone sensitivity in breast cancer patients considering its findings matching (76-78.2%) those obtained in ER and PR assay by the labeled ligand binding method which uses dextran-covered charcoal. Close correlations (80.4%) and (sensitivity +1) were obtained for ER and PR, on the one hand, and that of sex chromatin, on the other, particularly, in ER+PR(+)-tumors. High concentration of sex chromatin in tumor is one of the most reliable criteria of measuring hormone sensitivity levels in breast cancer patients.

RESUMO

Blood levels of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), alpha-fetoprotein, ferritin, ACTH. triiodothyronine and thyroxin were measured by radioimmunoassay in 217 cases of lung, hepatopancreatoduodenal and colonic cancer, 61 patients with nontumor pathology of those sites and in 37 healthy controls. CEA proved the most reliable marker of lung and colonic cancer and tumor-related mechanical jaundice, its lowest concentration in 65-100% of cancer patients exceeding the highest levels observed in controls. In the colorectal group, CEA level returned to normal after radical surgery and rose again at recurrence or distant metastases. Ferritin, cortisol and ACTH appeared less efficient.

RESUMO

A study of the blood levels of gonadotropic and steroid hormones in 321 breast cancer patients has shown that the basal levels of gonadotropin concentration in them exceed the control values (p less than 0.05); those of the follicle-stimulating hormone--in 54.1% of patients at reproductive age and in menopause less than 5 years and in 33.8% of patients in menopause over 5 years; those of luteotropin--in 50 and 93.5% of patients, respectively. Low basal levels of estradiol and progesterone were found more than 70% of breast cancer patients. A significant decrease in the level of the above hormones (p less than 0.05) was noted after polychemotherapy. An increase in the levels of corticotropin (in 54.5-65.2% of patients) and cortisol (in 81.6-84.3% of patients) was noted with progression of breast cancer. Data on the above hormones can be used as a diagnostic and prognostic test.

RESUMO

Blood level of large granular cells was assayed in patients suffering cancer of the breast (30), colon (13) and rectum (34) at various stages of the disease. This level in cancer patients was half as much that in healthy controls. Procedures employed for treatment of the above pathologies were shown to contribute to inhibition of peripheral blood spontaneous cytotoxicity. This makes the case for immunocorrection. The cytologic method of identification of large granular lymphocytes may be used to monitor cell-mediated antitumor immunity in breast and colorectal cancer patients in the course and after treatment and, therefore, serve the diagnosis of recurrence and metastasis.

RESUMO

The results of diagnosis and treatment of 255 patients with rectal cancer, treated in Rovno Province dispensary since 1950 to 1974, are analysed. A 5-year survival made nearly 50% and was dependent on the stage of the disease.
