RESUMO

Based on the results achieved in systematic studies of structure formation and the formation of multicomponent phases, a scandium-containing filler metal from system alloy Mg-Zr-Nd for welding of aircraft casting was developed. The influence of scandium in magnesium filler alloy on its mechanical and special properties, such as long-term strength at elevated temperatures, was studied by the authors. It is established that modification of the magnesium alloy with scandium in an amount between 0.05 and 0.07% allows a fine-grained structure to be obtained, which increases its plasticity up to 70% and heat resistance up to 1.8 times due to the formation of complex intermetallic phases and the microalloying of the solid solution. Welding of the aircraft castings made of magnesium alloy with scandium-containing filler material allows obtaining a weld with a dense homogeneous fusion zone and the surrounding area without any defects. The developed filler material for welding surface defects (cracks, chips, etc.) formed during operation on aircraft engine bodies makes it possible to restore cast body parts and reuse them. The proposed filler material composition with an improved set of properties for the welding of body castings from Mg-Zr-Nd system alloy for aircraft engines makes it possible to increase their reliability and durability in general, extend the service life of aircraft engines, and obtain a significant economic effect.

RESUMO

The main objective of the article is to develop the concept of flock fragmentation and the averaging method for the application of electrocoagulation in the process of treating wastewater from coke ovens. The designed solution was part of an innovative system for the coke oven wastewater treatment process. The system is dedicated to removing the hazardous elements and compounds from wastewater from leaching ashes in municipal waste incineration plants. The design of the process and its automatization was based on a quantitative simulation method. The balance equations of mass, energy, and momentum of transport, complemented by the kinetics of the related reaction, are used during the calculation of the process. The main result achieved is a practical solution-the reactor's scheme, classified due to a patent procedure in the Polish Patent Office.

RESUMO

Designers' efforts to use the lightest possible materials with very good mechanical properties mean that in recent years magnesium alloys have been increasingly used. It is well-known that the use of various plastic working processes allows achieving even better strength properties of the material, often without significant loss of plastic properties in relation to the properties of products obtained in the casting process. The article presents the results of research on microstructural changes and mechanical properties of the alloy AZ91 (MgAl9Zn1) occurring in samples subjected to conventional plastic deformation and the KOBO method. The obtained results were compared to the properties of reference samples, i.e., cast samples. The article presents the advantage of using the low-temperature KOBO method compared to the high-temperature deformation in a conventional manner. Moreover, it has been shown that the use of KOBO extrusion allows the alloy AZ91 (MgAl9Zn1) to obtain superplasticity properties with an elongation of up to 577% compared to the cast reference sample, which is generally classified as difficult for plastic deformation.

RESUMO

Recently, there has been great interest in the application of polysaccharides in the preparation of diverse biomaterials which result from their biocompatibility, biodegradability and biological activity. In this work, the investigations on chitosan/poly(aspartic acid)-based hydrogels modified with starch were described. Firstly, a series of hydrogel matrices was prepared and investigated to characterize their swelling properties, structure via FT-IR spectroscopy, elasticity and tensile strength using the Brookfield texture analyzer as well as their impact on simulated physiological liquids. Hydrogels consisting of chitosan and poly(aspartic acid) in a 2:1 volume ratio were elastic (9% elongation), did not degrade after 30-day incubation in simulated physiological liquids, exhibited a relative biocompatibility towards these liquids and similar swelling in each absorbed medium. This hydrogel matrix was modified with starch wherein two of its form were applied-a solution obtained at an elevated temperature and a suspension obtained at room temperature. Hydrogels modified with hot starch solution showed higher sorption that unmodified materials. This was probably due to the higher starch inclusion (i.e., a larger number of hydrophilic groups able to interact with the adsorbed liquid) when this polysaccharide was given in the form of a hot solution. Hydrogels modified with a cold starch suspension had visible heterogeneous inequalities on their surfaces and this modification led to the obtainment materials with unrepeatable structures which made the analysis of their properties difficult and may have led to misleading conclusions.
