RESUMO

Gene regulatory networks (GRNs) are crucial in every process of life since they govern the majority of the molecular processes. Therefore, the task of assembling these networks is highly important. In particular, the so called model-free approaches have an advantage modeling the complexities of dynamic molecular networks, since most of the gene networks are hard to be mapped with accuracy by any other mathematical model. A highly abstract model-free approach, called rule-based approach, offers several advantages performing data-driven analysis; such as the requirement of the least amount of data. They also have an important ability to perform inferences: its simplicity allows the inference of large size models with a higher speed of analysis. However, regarding these techniques, the reconstruction of the relational structure of the network is partial, hence incomplete, for an effective biological analysis. This situation motivated us to explore the possibility of hybridizing with other approaches, such as biclustering techniques. This led to incorporate a biclustering tool that finds new relations between the nodes of the GRN. In this work we present a new software, called GeRNeT that integrates the algorithms of GRNCOP2 and BiHEA along a set of tools for interactive visualization, statistical analysis and ontological enrichment of the resulting GRNs. In this regard, results associated with Alzheimer disease datasets are presented that show the usefulness of integrating both bioinformatics tools.

RESUMO

Hydropic degeneration of a uterine leiomyoma is common. Giant forms are uncommon. Positive diagnosis may be challenging because the differential diagnosis includes other rare uterine tumors such as leiomyosarcoma. Uterine localization, the leiomyoma volume, margins with adjacent structures are best evaluated at MRI. Final diagnosis requires gross and microscopic examination. We describe such a diagnostic challenge in a 46-year-old woman with a giant hydropic leiomyoma.

RESUMO

We report an uncommon presentation of plasmocytoma in an AIDS patient. AIDS is associated with an increased risk of neoplasms. The incidence of Plasma Cell tumors in HIV-positive patients is greater than in non-infected patients. Multiple factors contribute to B cell neoplasms development.

RESUMO

Three cases of extraosseous Ewing sarcoma are reported. This pathology of the young adult is very rare as shown by the review of the literature. Clinical or imaging (CT or MRI) findings are non-specific and diagnosis is based on histology. Nonetheless, this diagnosis should be considered in all patients with primary soft tissue tumors.

RESUMO

We present a case of symptomatic pneumatocyst of the ilium observed in a professional scuba diver exposed to pressure variations. Pneumatocysts are rare and except for one case reported in a clavicular localization, are always found in subchondral bone of the iliac or sacral side of the sacroiliac joint. Undoubtedly, air fills an intraosseous node. We report here the first case of efficient treatment achieved by filling the cyst via percutaneous access under scopic control.

The authors have studied the veinous pattern of 30 livers of human foetuses from 190 to 390 mm V.C. The injection-corrosion method was used. The portal and sus-hepatic distribution is more frequently modal than for the adult. The portal anomalies touch more frequently the left branches: drainage of the right para-medial area by the left para-medial vein, agenesis or atrophy of the left segmentary branches. The right branch breaks up into several branches in 51% of the cases. The sus-hepatic anomalies are distinguished by the plurality of the veins. The right middle and inferior veins are present in 70% of the cases. Exceptionally large peripheral anastomoses between portal and sus-hepatic systems are observed.

RESUMO

On two personal cases of left diaphragmatic congenital hernia, the authors study the innervation of the diaphragm. They describe a lower number of fibres in the phrenic nerve on the side of the malformation and don't find any branches coming from the intercostal nerves. This malformation is probably of neurogenic origin.
