RESUMO

Notch signaling is required in many invertebrate and vertebrate cells to promote proper cell fate determination. Mutations in sanpodo cause many different neuronal peripheral nervous system precursor cells to generate two identical daughter neurons, instead of a neuron and sibling cell. This phenotype is similar to that observed when Notch function is lost late in embryonic development and opposite to the numb loss-of-function phenotype. Genetic interaction studies show that sanpodo is epistatic to numb. sanpodo encodes a homolog of tropomodulin, an actin/tropomyosin-associated protein. Loss of sanpodo leads to an aberrant F-actin distribution and causes differentiation defects of actin-containing sensory structures. Our data suggest that an actin-based process is involved in Notch signaling.

RESUMO

The attitudes of nurses strongly influence the nature of nurse-patient dynamics. This investigation sought to determine whether two comparative treatment approaches utilizing persuasion and simulation gaming in group settings would appreciably affect attitudes toward mental illness and aging. Locus of control was also studied to determine whether internal or external orientation affected treatment responsively. Analysis of variance revealed a significant difference for one factor (interpersonal etiology) of the opinions about mental illness scale. Confirmation of this difference was provided by a multivariate analysis, but no difference was found for attitudes toward old people or locus of control.

RESUMO

Attitude change of nursing students following two group-therapy treatments, involving persuasive communication (n = 6) and autotelic inquiry (n = 7), was measured by the Attitude Toward Old People and Opinions About Mental Illness scales. Rotter's Locus of Control scale was used to measure internal vs external orientation. A significant difference from controls (n = 14) for Interpersonal Etiology on the Opinions About Mental Illness scale was found for the Autotelic Inquiry group (n = 7) which provided role-induced simulations, but no difference was found for Atttitudes Toward Old People or Locus of Control.
