RESUMO

The paper presents a novel data-embedding method based on the Periodic Haar Piecewise-Linear (PHL) transform. The theoretical background behind the PHL transform concept is introduced. The proposed watermarking method assumes embedding hidden information in the PHL transform domain using the luminance channel of the original image. The watermark is embedded by modifying the coefficients with relatively low values. The proposed method was verified based on the measurement of the visual quality of an image with a watermark with respect to the length of the embedded information. In addition, the bit error rate (BER) is also considered for different sizes of a watermark. Furthermore, a method for the detection of image manipulation is presented. The elaborated technique seems to be suitable for applications in digital signal and image processing where high imperceptibility and low BER are required, and information security is of high importance. In particular, this method can be applied in systems where the sensitive data is transmitted or stored and needs to be protected appropriately (e.g., in medical image processing).

RESUMO

The use of optical coherence tomography (OCT) in medical diagnostics is now common. The growing amount of data leads us to propose an automated support system for medical staff. The key part of the system is a classification algorithm developed with modern machine learning techniques. The main contribution is to present a new approach for the classification of eye diseases using the convolutional neural network model. The research concerns the classification of patients on the basis of OCT B-scans into one of four categories: Diabetic Macular Edema (DME), Choroidal Neovascularization (CNV), Drusen, and Normal. Those categories are available in a publicly available dataset of above 84,000 images utilized for the research. After several tested architectures, our 5-layer neural network gives us a promising result. We compared them to the other available solutions which proves the high quality of our algorithm. Equally important for the application of the algorithm is the computational time, which is reduced by the limited size of the model. In addition, the article presents a detailed method of image data augmentation and its impact on the classification results. The results of the experiments were also presented for several derived models of convolutional network architectures that were tested during the research. Improving processes in medical treatment is important. The algorithm cannot replace a doctor but, for example, can be a valuable tool for speeding up the process of diagnosis during screening tests.

RESUMO

The paper focuses on the application of new orthogonal transforms in digital watermarking. Novel types of transforms and their characteristics are presented. Potential methods for watermark embedding and recovery are also proposed. They assume embedding hidden information in the transform domains using the luminance channel of the original image. Image spectra are obtained by dividing the original image into smaller blocks that then are further processed by performing the forward transform operation. A watermark is embedded by modifying the spectral coefficients with relatively low values. Since there are various types of transforms, the latter process is realized in an adaptive manner. The proposed solutions were evaluated by measuring the level of visual distortion with respect to the total size of the inserted data. Additionally, the bit error rate (BER) in the recovery phase is also analyzed. The elaborated methods seem to be useful for applications in digital signal and image processing where high imperceptibility and low BER are of great importance. New orthogonal transforms were proved to be useful in watermarking tasks, and in some cases, they can even outperform the classic DCT approach.

RESUMO

This paper presents a new model of the content reconstruction problem in self-embedding systems, based on an erasure communication channel. We explain why such a model is a good fit for this problem, and how it can be practically implemented with the use of digital fountain codes. The proposed method is based on an alternative approach to spreading the reference information over the whole image, which has recently been shown to be of critical importance in the application at hand. Our paper presents a theoretical analysis of the inherent restoration trade-offs. We analytically derive formulas for the reconstruction success bounds, and validate them experimentally with Monte Carlo simulations and a reference image authentication system. We perform an exhaustive reconstruction quality assessment, where the presented reference scheme is compared to five state-of-the-art alternatives in a common evaluation scenario. Our paper leads to important insights on how self-embedding schemes should be constructed to achieve optimal performance. The reference authentication system designed according to the presented principles allows for high-quality reconstruction, regardless of the amount of the tampered content. The average reconstruction quality, measured on 10000 natural images is 37 dB, and is achievable even when 50% of the image area becomes tampered.
