RESUMO

Melt quenching technique was used to create Bismuth Boro-Silicate nano glasses with compositions of 45SiO2-10CaO- 25Na2O- xBi2O3- (20-x) B2O3 (where x is 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 mol %). Standard point sources AM-241, Ba-133, Co-60, Cs-137, and Eu-152 were used in the radiation experiment to evaluate the attenuation coefficients spanning the energy range of 59.51 keV to 1048.01 keV. The findings show that adding Bi2O3 in place of B2O3 increases the following: radiation protection efficiency (RPE%), transmission factor (TF%), absorption buildup factor values (ABF), exposure buildup factor values (EBF), mass attenuation coefficients (MACs), linear attenuation coefficients (LACs), and radiation protection efficiency (RPE%). In comparison to lead glass, these findings demonstrate the potential of nano Bismuth Boro-Silicate glass as a radiation shielding material.

RESUMO

This study investigates the differential responses of two maize genotypes, SC180 and SC168, to salt stress, aiming to elucidate the mechanisms underlying salinity tolerance and identify traits associated with improved stress resilience. Salinity stress, imposed by 150 mM NaCl, adversely affected various growth parameters in both genotypes. SC180 exhibited a more pronounced reduction in shoot length (13.6%) and root length (13.6%) compared to SC168, which showed minimal reductions (3.0% and 2.3%, respectively). Additionally, dry weight losses in SC180's leaves, stems, and roots were significantly greater than those in SC168. Under salinity stress, both genotypes accumulated Na+ in all organs, with SC168 showing higher Na + concentrations. However, K+ levels decreased more significantly in SC180's leaves than in SC168's. The study also assessed physiological responses, noting that SC180 experienced a substantial reduction in relative water content (RWC) in leaves (22.7%), while SC168's RWC remained relatively stable (5.15%). Proline accumulation, a marker for osmotic adjustment, increased 2.3-fold in SC168 compared onefold in SC180. Oxidative stress indicators, such as electrolyte leakage and hydrogen peroxide levels, were elevated in both genotypes under salt stress, with SC180 showing higher increases (48.5% and 48.7%, respectively) than SC168 (35.25% and 22.0%). Moreover, antioxidant enzymes (APX, CAT, POD, SOD, GR) activities were significantly enhanced in SC168 under salinity stress, whereas SC180 showed no significant changes in these activities. Stress indices, used to quantify and compare salinity tolerance, consistently ranked SC168 as more tolerant (average rank = 1.08) compared to SC180 (average rank = 1.92). Correlation analyses further confirmed that SC168's superior tolerance was associated with better Na + regulation, maintenance of K+ levels, and a robust antioxidant defense system. In conclusion, SC168 demonstrated greater resilience to salinity stress, attributed to its efficient ion regulation, stable water status, enhanced osmotic adjustment, and strong antioxidant response. These findings provide valuable insights for breeding and developing salinity-tolerant maize varieties.

RESUMO

Cardiac pacemakers are used for handling bradycardia, which is a cardiac rhythm of usually less than 60 beats per minute. Therapeutic dual-sensor pacemakers aim to preserve or restore the normal electromechanical activity of the cardiac muscle. In this article, a novel intelligent controller has been developed for implanted dual-sensor cardiac pacemakers. The developed controller is mainly based on intuitionistic fuzzy logic (IFL). The main advantage of the developed IFL controller is its ability to merge the qualitative expert knowledge of cardiologists in the proposed design of controlled pacemakers. Additionally, the implication of non-membership functions with the uncertainty term plays a key role in the developed fuzzy controller for improving the performance of a cardiac pacemaker over other fuzzy control schemes in previous studies. Moreover, the proposed pacemaker control system is efficient for managing all health-status conditions and constraints during the different daily activities of cardiac patients. Consequently, the healthcare of patients with implanted dual-sensor pacemakers can be efficiently improved intuitively.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA) represents an infertility problem that is usually difficult to treat. Such patients usually have testicular biopsy of germ cell aplasia or spermatogenic arrest. In recent decades, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) had been studied thoroughly and proved safe and effective regarding their capability for trans-differentiation into different cell types. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of MSCs local intratesticular injection in induction of spermatogenesis. PATIENTS AND METHOD: The current study included 87 infertile non-obstructive azoospermic patients. Clinical assessment and repeated semen analysis with centrifugation were done to confirm azoospermia. Karyotyping and AZF study were done. Some of the patients had previous testicular biopsy proving a lack of sperm in the testes. Single intratesticular injection of purified MSCs suspension was done. RESULTS: 20.7% of patients showed sperm in their semen after variable period of time. Hormonal profile among treated patients showed significant improvement regardless success of treatment. Also most of the treated patients appreciated the improvement of their sexual function and libido. CONCLUSIONS: Bone marrow derived MSCs could be a new hope and therapeutic modality for treatment of refractory cases of NOA.

RESUMO

Background: Medicines are maintained at home for several reasons. However, irrational household storage of medicines is a universal public health problem, causing significant harm to health and the healthcare system. Objective: This study aimed to assess home drug use and storage practices among the residents of Bahir Dar. Town, Ethiopia. Method: A cross-sectional household study was conducted in three sub-cities of the town of Bahir Dar from July to October 2022. Multistage stratified sampling was used to select the households included in the study. Data on the prevalence of home drug storage, storage place, and self-medication practice, among others, were collected using a semi-structured questionnaire and analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science version 20. Results: More than half (57.9%) of the respondents stored medicines at home, mostly in drawers (35%). In this study, the widespread use of self-medication (44.6%) and drug-sharing practices (25%) were observed. Most of the leftover medicines (67.3%) were disposed of in the trash. Education status (AOR=3.8, 95% CI: 1.6-9.1), occupation (AOR=2.9, 95% CI: 1.2-7.2), income (AOR=1.73, 95% CI: 1.01-3.0), and the presence of chronic disease (AOR=3.2, 95% CI: 1.7-5.9) showed a significant association with home drug storage. Conclusion: Many study participants stored medications at home and bought them from pharmacies without consulting physicians. Disposing of medications into waste and practice of medication sharing were found to be high in the current study, suggesting that there is a lack of home drug utilization and storage practices by the general public.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Phytochemical compounds can modify the rumen microbiome and improve rumen fermentation. This study evaluated the impact of supplementation with tannin and an herbal mixture containing ginger (Zingiber officinale), garlic (Allium sativum), Artemisia (Artemisia vulgaris), and turmeric (Curcuma longa) on the rumen fermentation and microbiota, and histology of rumen tissue of goats. Eighteen Shami male goats were divided into three groups (n = 6): non-supplemented animals fed the basal diet (C, control); animals fed basal diet and supplemented with condensed tannin (T); and animals fed basal diet and supplemented with herbal mixture (HM). Each animal received a basal diet composed of Alfalfa hay and a concentrate feed mixture. RESULTS: Group HM revealed higher (P < 0.05) rumen pH, total volatile fatty acids (VFA), acetic, propionic, isobutyric, butyric, isovaleric, and valeric. Principal Co-ordinate analysis (PCoA) showed that rumen microbial communities in the control group and supplemented groups were distinct. The supplementation increased (P < 0.05) the relative abundances of phylum Bacteroidota and Proteobacteria and declined (P < 0.05) Firmicutes and Fibrobacterota. Additionally, the dominant genus Prevotella and Rikenellaceae RC9 gut group were increased (P < 0.05) and the family Ruminococcaceae was declined (P < 0.05) due to the supplementation. The supplementation decreased (P < 0.05) the archaeal genus Methanobrevibacter and increased (P < 0.05) Candidatus Methanomethylophilus. Tannin supplementation in T group shortened the rumen papillae. CONCLUSIONS: The results revealed that the herbal mixture might be used to alter the rumen microbiota to improve rumen fermentation.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Peripheral nerve injury refers to any damage or trauma to the nerves located outside the central nervous system. Ultrasonography is a reliable, cheap, and minimally invasive method in clinical practice to give physicians useful information about nerve injury. OBJECTIVES: to assess the power of ultrasound in determining the presence, localization, and extent of neural damage in patients with clinical evidence of peripheral nerve lesions before surgery. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 78 patients (56 females and 22 males, aged from 9 to 52 years) who had different pathologies including entrapment, tumoral, post-traumatic, and post-surgical nerve injuries at the Neurosurgery and Physical Medicine, Rheumatology, and Rehabilitation Departments, Tanta University Hospitals. All studied patients had preoperative evaluation; neurological examination, electrodiagnostic studies, and sonographic examinations with linear array transducers (frequencies ranging from 7.5 to 16 MHz). RESULTS: The most common pathological condition was entrapment neuropathy (39 patients) (50%). Ultrasound complemented the electrodiagnostic studies by determining the site of entrapment manifested by increased mean maximum cross-sectional area of the nerve proximal to the site of entrapment and nerve hypoechogenicity. In post-traumatic and iatrogenic neuropathies (35 patients) (44.9%), the ultrasound finding revealed neuroma in continuity in nine cases (11.5%), complete neurotmesis with stump neuroma in eighteen patients (23.1%), and eight cases (10.3%) showed perineural adhesion. In all cases, the nerve was hypoechoic at the site of injury. The presence of hyperechoic fibrous tissue could indicate perineural adhesion and the necessity for neurolysis. This study also included three (3.8%) cases had schwannoma, and one case (1.3%) had neurofibroma. Ultrasound was used to confirm the diagnosis by determining the tumor's size and vascular supply. CONCLUSIONS: Ultrasonography is a diagnostic and surgical planning tool that is becoming more and more useful for the management of peripheral nerve injuries. Its high resolution and real-time capability provide safe and cost-effective scans that aid in determining the extent of injuries. For patients with peripheral nerve injuries, ultrasound is advised to be added to the routine clinical and neurophysiological evaluation. It is also advised to use ultrasound as a first-line imaging modality for tumors thought to be of nerve origin.

RESUMO

Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is a relatively new syndrome associated with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) that is characterized by a severe clinical course compared to pediatric COVID-19. This review aimed to compile the available evidence on the clinical presentation and management of MIS-C in children with COVID-19. During this systematic review, a comprehensive search was performed in the following databases: PubMed, Embase, Medline, Google Scholar, Cochrane, and Scopus, using predetermined search terms, such as Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) and keywords to find relevant studies on the MIS-C. Relevant data were extracted, and the quality of the studies was evaluated using suitable methods. The collected findings were synthesized and discussed in the study. The World Health Organization's (WHO) definition of MIS-C was the most favored due to its precision and inclusiveness. MIS-C primarily affected children aged 6-12 years, with male predominance. MIS-C involves a range of systems, including gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, hematologic, mucocutaneous, and respiratory. Radiographic findings revealed cardiovascular abnormalities, solid visceral organ involvement, and bowel abnormalities, reflecting a systemic inflammatory process. Laboratory investigations unveiled elevated inflammatory markers, neutrophil activation, release of extracellular traps in vessels, elevated procalcitonin, hyponatremia, hypoalbuminemia, low hemoglobin, and thrombocytopenia. The inflammatory markers and autoantibody profiles are essential in differentiating MIS-C from COVID-19. The preferred treatment primarily involves immunomodulatory therapies like intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), glucocorticoids, and interleukin-6 or 1RA inhibitors or a combination of those. In severe cases, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and mechanical ventilation are necessary, leading to reduced mortality and quick recovery. This review found that the average hospital stay was seven days, and most discharged children fully recovered within seven days. MIS-C is a life-threatening post-COVID-19 condition and involves multiple systems due to systemic inflammation, with elevated inflammation markers. Recognition of multisystem involvement is crucial, and prompt identification and multidisciplinary treatment are vital for optimal outcomes.

RESUMO

Two simple and rapid chromatographic methods were developed and validated for the analysis of levamisole and triclabendazole simultaneously in pure and pharmaceutical products. The first method is thin-layer chromatography (TLC) with densitometry, and the second method is high-performance liquid chromatography with PDA detection (HPLC-PDA). A Hypersil BDS C18 column with dimensions of 4.6 × 150 mm and a particle size of 5 µm was used in the HPLC-PDA method. An isocratic condition was used to carry out the separation, and the mobile phase was made up of acetonitrile and a 0.03 M potassium dihydrogen phosphate buffer in double-distilled water. The ratio of the mobile phase preparation was 70:30 (v/v), and the flow rate was 1 mL/min. A wavelength of 215 nm was employed for analyte detection. Precoated silica gel 60 F254 aluminium plates were used for the TLC method's separation. Mobile phase was made of ethyl acetate, hexane, methanol, and ammonia (69:15:15:1) for the separation. The detection wavelength selected was 215 nm. According to the International Council for Harmonization (ICH) guidelines, the proposed methods were validated and it was found that the two chromatographic methods are accurate, precise, and linear for both compounds in the range of 3.75-37.5 and 6-60 mg/L for the HPLC method for levamisole and triclabendazole, respectively and in the range of 2-14 µg/spot for the TLC method. The developed methods greenness profile was assessed using AGREE and ComplexGAPI tools.

RESUMO

Dietary selenium (Se) sources affects the structure of the rumen microbial community and rumen fermentation. This study evaluated the effects of sodium selenite (SS) and bio-nanostructured selenium (SeNSM) on rumen fermentation and structure of rumen microbial community of lactating Barki ewes. Twenty one lactating Barki ewes were assigned into three groups based on their body weight and milk yield. The experiment lasted for 50 days, whenever, the control group was fed basal diet; group SS received basal diets plus sodium selenite as inorganic source of Se; and group SeNSM received basal diet plus organic selenium bio-nanostructured. Ruminal pH and volatile Fatty Acids (VFA) was lower (P < 0.05) in SeNSM group compared to control. Principle Coordinate Analysis separated the microbial communities into three clusters based on feeding treatment. The bacterial community was dominated by phylum Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes that were affected (P < 0.05) by Se sources. Specifically Bacteriodetes was higher (P < 0.05) in SS and SeNSM groups; and Firmicutes was higher (P < 0.05) in the control group. Moreover, the predominant bacterial genera were Prevotella, Rikenellaceae RC9 gut group, Unclassified_Bacteroidales, which were higher (P < 0.05) in SeNSM group. The methanogenic community belonged to phylum Euryarchaeota and was significantly decreased (P < 0.05) by Se supplementation. Principal component analysis based on rumen fermentation parameters, and relative abundances of bacteria and methanogens revealed three distinct clusters. These findings suggest that Se supplementation affected the relative abundances of dominant bacterial groups, declined rumen methanogens and SeNSM supplementation showed some positive impacts on some fibrolytic bacteria.

RESUMO

In the present study, a novel glass system containing Neodymium(III) oxide with BaO, Al2O3, and B2O3 were created via a popular melt-quenching technique. Nd2O3 were added, in different concentrations, instead of B2O3 to study its impact on the crystallization, and electro-magnetic behaviors of the prepared poly-crystalline materials. Thermal characteristics via DTA, XRD and SEM techniques were involved to explore the crystallization and structural properties. The magnetic parameters of the prepared glass-ceramics were studied by VSM measurements. As well the electric properties were also explored. BaB2O4 and Al(BO3) phases were firstly crystallized then Ba3Nd(BO3)3 phase was incompletely precipitated instead of BaB2O4 phase owing to Nd2O3 additions. As well, the internal structure was modified from coarse crystals to fine grain microstructure. The crystallization study proved that the addition of neodymium improved the crystallization process of the BaO-Al2O3-B2O3 glass system. The VSM and conductivity analysis for the crystalline materials proved that the Nd2O3/B2O3 substitutions led to an increase in the electrical and magnetic parameters of the investigated materials. The data obtained from the prepared crystalline specimen showed that these materials are with a distinct and promising ferro-electrical property for use in diverse modern applications.

RESUMO

Although integrating a distributed generation (DG) into a distribution system (DS) has several benefits, it may be accompanied by some issues, such as ferroresonance. Therefore, ferroresonance investigations in an integrated DS with multi-DGs have been identified as a research gap. To this end, this paper presents a new method to mitigate ferroresonance in distribution networks, after which ferroresonance in an IEEE-33 bus radial DS integrated with multi-DGs was investigated. Here the RLC shunt limiter is introduced as a method for mitigating ferroresonance, including a design approach for adjusting its dimensions to fit the system. Investigations revealed that this shunt relied on the negative sequence detector to connect it to the system during ferroresonance. Finally, the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method have been demonstrated by comparing its result with those obtained using other existing ferroresonance mitigation methods used in the literature.

RESUMO

Understanding the rumen microbiota of camels under different feeding conditions is necessary to optimize rumen fermentation and productivity. This study aims to investigate the effects of different concentrate supplement levels on digestion, rumen fermentation and bacteria in growing camels. Fifteen growing camels were divided into three groups and were fed alfalfa hay in addition to one of the three concentrate supplement levels based on body weight (BW): low (0.7%), medium (1%), and high (1.3%). Increasing the concentrate supplement level in the diet increased total dry matter intake but had no effect on nutrients digestibility, except for crude protein digestibility, which was enhanced with the high concentrate level. Growing camels at low-level had considerably higher rumen pH than those fed medium or high levels. Increasing the supplement level also increased rumen propionic acid but decreased acetic acid concentration. Principal coordinate analysis showed that concentrate levels clearly separated the ruminal bacterial communities where Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes were the dominant phyla and Prevotella, Ruminococcus, Butyrivibrio, RC9_gut_group, and Fibrobacteres were the dominant bacterial genera. This study expands our knowledge regarding the rumen microbiota of growing camels under different concentrate levels and reveals that medium concentrate levels could be appropriate for growing camels.

RESUMO

The combination of live yeast and microalgae as feed supplementation could improve rumen fermentation and animal productivity. This study aimed to investigate the impact of a mixture of (YA) yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) and microalgae (Spirulina platensis and Chlorella vulgaris) as feed supplementation on feed intake, rumen disappearance of barley straw, bacteria, and fermentation, blood parameters of camels and sheep. Three fistulated camels and three fistulated rams were fed a concentrates mixture and ad libitum barley straw as a basal diet alone or supplemented with YA mixture. The dietary supplementation improved the feed intake, rumen disappearance of barley straw nutrients, and the blood immunity parameters. The YA supplementation affected rumen fermentation as well as the composition and diversity of rumen bacteria; however, the response to the supplementation varied according to animal species. Principle Coordinate Analysis (PCoA) separated bacterial communities based on animal species and feeding treatment. Phylum Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes dominated the bacterial community; and the dominant genera were Prevotella, RC9_gut_group, Butyrivibrio, Ruminococcus, Saccharofermentans, Christensenellaceae_R-7_group, and Succiniclasticum. Our results suggest positive impacts of YA supplementation in rumen fermentation and animal performance.

RESUMO

Herein, efficient and potential chelating α-aminophosphonate based sorbents (AP-) derived from three different amine origins (aniline/anthranilic acid/O-phenylenediamine) to form AP-H, carboxylated and aminated enhanced aminophosphonate as AP-H, AP-COOH, and AP-NH2 were synthesized via a facile method. The structure of the synthesized sorbents was elucidated using different techniques; elemental analysis (CHNP/O), FT-IR, NMR (1H-, 13C and 31P NMR), TGA and BET. The fabricated sorbents were exploited for Hg(II) removal from aqueous solution via sorption properties. Isotherm fitted by Langmuir equation: the maximum sorption capacities at optimum pH 5.5, and T:25 ± 1 °C, were found to be 1.33, 1.23, and 1.15 mmol Hg g-1 for AP-COOH, AP-NH2, AP-H, respectively, which is roughly correlated with the active sites density and the hard/soft characteristics of adsorbents' reactive groups. Metal-ligand binding affinities are qualitatively rationalized in terms of hard and soft acids and bases (HSAB) theory. The interaction of Hg(II) (soft) has a stronger affinity to AP-COOH can be considered a softer base compared with reference material (AP-H) over than AP-NH2 (hard). This sequence result showed opposite trends consistent with their reciprocal properties according to the steric effect modulates and the specific surface area. Thermodynamics analysis for absolute values of ΔH°, ΔS° and ΔG° afford the selectivity towards Hg(II) sorption with the following order: AP-COOH > AP-NH2 >AP-H. Elution and regeneration was carried out by HCl solution and recycled for a minimum of five cycles, the sorption and desorption efficiencies are greater than 91%. Such sorbents exhibit good durability, stability and promising potential for Hg(II) removal. Finally, a new modelling technique for quantitative non-linear description and comparison of equivalent geographical positions in 3D space of extended relationships. Exothermic and spontaneous behavior were observed using a proposed Floatotherm that included the Van't Hoff parameters model.

RESUMO

Rumen methanogens prevent the accumulation of fermentation gases in the rumen and generate methane that increases global warming and represents a loss in animals' gross energy. Non-traditional feed resources such as the by-products of date palm (Phoenix dactylifera) and olive (Olea europaea) trees have received attention to be used in animal feeding. This study evaluated the impact of non-traditional feed resources including olive cake (OC), discarded dates (DD), and date palm frond (DPF) in sheep diet on rumen fermentation, diversity and relative abundance of rumen methanogens. Nine adult rams were assigned to three equal groups and fed three diets: traditional concentrates mixture (S1); non-traditional concentrate mixture (S2) based on DD and OC; and (S3) composed of the same S2 concentrate supplemented with DPF as a roughage part. The results showed that rumen pH was higher with S3 diet than the other two diets. However, the S1 diet showed the highest values of total volatile fatty acids (TVFA) and rumen ammonia. In addition, the proportions of acetic and butyric acids were increased, whereas propionic acid declined in S2 and S3 compared to the S1 diet. Rumen methanogens were dominated by Methanobrevibacter that showed a numeric decline by including DD, OC, and DPF in the animal diets. Principal component analysis (PCA) based on rumen fermentation parameters and relative abundances of methanogens genera showed three distinct clusters. Also, positive and negative correlations were revealed between methanogens genera and rumen metabolites. This study expands the knowledge regarding the effect of agricultural byproducts on rumen fermentation and the methanogenic community.

RESUMO

Rice cultivation in Egypt is limited by the scarcity of water resources. The main strategy of rice breeders to overcome this problem is to develop new high-yielding varieties that are tolerant to drought stress. In this study, an drought-tolerant (IR60080-46A) variety was crossed with commercial Egyptian varieties using the back-cross method and marker-assisted selection (MAS) approach. The advanced lines of these crosses were selected under drought stress conditions. The best-performing candidate line, RBL-112, and its parental genotypes, were evaluated under drought stress and control conditions. The RBL-112 line showed superior its root system, which in turn produced higher grain yield under drought-stress conditions than its parental and check genotypes. Furthermore, physiological and biochemical studies showed that the RBL-112 line maintained higher relative water content (RWC), maximum quantum efficiency of photosystem II (Fv/Fm) values, proline content, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, and lower malondialdehyde (MDA) content compared to its parents and the check. The functional expression profiles of 22 drought tolerance-related genes were studied, out of which the genes OsAHL1, OsLEA3, OsCATA, OsP5CS, OsSNAC1, Os1g64660, OsRab21, OsAPX2, OsDREB2A, OsSKIPa, and OsLG3 were strongly induced in the newly developed RBL-112 line under drought-stress conditions. It could be concluded that the new line has a higher capacity to modulate physiological activities and expression levels of several drought-induced genes to withstand drought stress with high yielding ability. This finding suggests that the RBL-112 line presents a promising new addition to enable sustainable rice cultivation under water-limited conditions, and confirms the efficiency of the approach implemented in the current study.

RESUMO

Rumen bacteria make the greatest contribution to rumen fermentation that enables the host animal to utilize the ingested feeds. Agro-industrial byproducts (AIP) such as olive cake (OC) and date palm byproducts (discarded dates (DD), and date palm fronds (DPF)) represent a practical solution to the deficiency in common feed resources. In this study, thirty-six growing Barki lambs were divided into three groups to evaluate the effect of untraditional diets including the AIP on the growth performance. Subsequently, nine adult Barki rams were used to evaluate the effect of experimental diets on rumen fermentation and rumen bacteria. Three rations were used: common concentrate mixture (S1), common untraditional concentrate mixture including OC and DD (S2), and the same concentrate mixture in S2 supplemented with roughage as DPF enriched with 15% molasses (S3). The animals in S2 group showed higher dry matter intake (DMI) and lower relative growth rate (RGR) as compared to the animals in S1 group. However, the animals in S3 group were the lowest in DMI but achieved RGR by about 87.6% of that in the S1 group. Rumen pH, acetic and butyric acids were more prevalent in animals of S3 group and rumen ammonia (NH3-N), total volatile fatty acids (TVFA), propionic acid were higher in S1. Rumen enzymes activities were higher in S1 group followed by S3 and S2. The bacterial population was more prevalent in S1 and microbial diversity was higher in the S3 group. Principal coordinate analysis revealed clusters associated with diet type and the relative abundance of bacteria varied between sheep groups. The bacterial community was dominated by phylum Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes; whereas, Prevotella, Ruminococcus, and Butyrivibrio were the dominant genera. Results indicate that diet S3 supplemented by OC, DD, and DPF could replace the conventional feed mixture.

RESUMO

The camel is well-adapted to utilize the poor-quality forages in the harsh desert conditions as the camel rumen sustains fibrolytic microorganisms, mainly bacteria that are capable of breaking down the lignocellulosic biomass efficiently. Exploring the composition of the bacterial community in the rumen of the camel and quantifying their cellulolytic and xylanolytic activities could lead to understanding and improving fiber fermentation and discovering novel sources of cellulases and xylanases. In this study, Illumina MiSeq sequencing of the V4 region on 16S rRNA was applied to identify the bacterial and archaeal communities in the rumen of three camels fed wheat straw and broom corn. Furthermore, rumen samples were inoculated into bacterial media enriched with xylan and different cellulose sources, including filter paper (FP), wheat straw (WS), and alfalfa hay (AH) to assess the ability of rumen bacteria to produce endo-cellulase and endo-xylanase at different fermentation intervals. The results revealed that the phylum Bacteroidetes dominated the bacterial community and Candidatus Methanomethylophilus dominated the archaeal community. Also, most of the bacterial community has fibrolytic potential and the dominant bacterial genera were Prevotella, RC9_gut_group, Butyrivibrio, Ruminococcus, Fibrobacteres, and Treponema. The highest xylanase production (884.8 mU/mL) was observed at 7 days. The highest cellulase production (1049.5 mU/mL) was observed when rumen samples were incubated with Alfalfa hay for 7 days.
