RESUMO

This article will explore why degree-granting graduate and professional leadership programs should align with institutional missions to clearly promote program scope and value proposition to prospective students. By touting program uniqueness, graduate and professional leadership program administrators can better serve graduate students by clearly advertising what they offer, why they offer it, and how students can expect to learn leadership both in and outside the classroom.

RESUMO

Klinefelter syndrome (KS) is the most common aneuploidy in men and has long-term sequelae on health and wellbeing. KS is a chronic, lifelong condition and adolescents/young adults (AYAs) with KS face challenges in transitioning from pediatric to adult-oriented services. Discontinuity of care contributes to poor outcomes for health and wellbeing and transition programs for KS are lacking. We aimed to develop and test a mobile health tool (KS Transition Passport) to educate patients about KS, encourage self-management and support successful transition to adult-oriented care. First, we conducted a retrospective chart review and patient survey to examine KS transition at a university hospital. Second, we conducted a systematic scoping review of the literature on AYAs with KS. Last, we developed a mobile health transition passport and evaluated it with patient support groups. Participants evaluated the tool using the System Usability Scale and Patient Education Materials Assessment Tool (PEMAT). Chart review identified 21 AYAs diagnosed between 3.9-16.8 years-old (median 10.2 years). The survey revealed only 4/10 (40%) were on testosterone therapy and fewer (3/10, 30%) had regular medical care. The scoping review identified 21 relevant articles highlighting key aspects of care for AYAs with KS. An interprofessional team developed the mobile-health KS transition passport using an iterative process. Support group members (n=35) rated passport usability as 'ok' to 'good' (70 ± 20, median 73.5/100). Of PEMAT dimensions, 5/6 were deemed 'high quality' (86-90/100) and participants knew what to do with the information (actionability = 83/100). In conclusion, many patients with KS appear to have gaps in transition to adult-oriented care. Iterative development of a KS transition passport produced a mobile health tool that was usable, understandable and had high ratings for actionability.

RESUMO

This paper applies theoretical frameworks from organizational sociology and sociolegal studies to examine factors associated with educators' conceptions of students' rights to due process in disciplinary actions. We analyze a unique representative data set of 402 teachers and 200 administrators in U.S. high schools to investigate how educators understand the rights to due process articulated in the Supreme Court case of Goss v. Lopez (1975). We then examine whether individual characteristics and participation in organizational processes are associated with educators' understandings of students' due process rights. Findings suggest that educators' understandings of students' entitlements to due process vary with educators' level of education, experience of school-related legal threats, and participation in district or diocese in-service training programs on students' rights. Results point to organizational climate as a key factor in shaping educators' rights conceptions and the role of law in American schools.

RESUMO

Ischemic colitis is a rare, life-threatening, consequence of mesenteric arteriovenous malformations. Ischemia ensues from a steal phenomenon through shunting, and may be compounded by the resulting portal hypertension. Computed tomographic angiography is the most common first-line test because it is quick, non-invasive, and allows for accurate anatomic characterization. Also, high-resolution three-dimensional images can be created for treatment planning. Magnetic resonance angiography is similarly sensitive for vascular mapping. Conventional angiography remains the gold standard for diagnosis and also allows for therapeutic endovascular embolization. Our patient underwent testing using all three of these modalities. We present the first reported case of this entity in a patient with a vascular connective tissue disorder.

RESUMO

In this article, we analyze ethnoracial patterns in youth perceptions and responses to rights violations and advance a new model of legal mobilization that includes formal, quasi-, and extralegal action. Slightly more than half of the 5,461 students in our sample reported past rights violations involving discrimination, harassment, freedom of expression/assembly, and due process violations in disciplinary procedures. Students, regardless of race, are more likely to take extralegal than formal legal actions in response to perceived rights violations. Self-identified African American and Latino/a students are significantly more likely than white and Asian American students to perceive rights violations and are more likely to claim they would take formal legal action in response to hypothetical rights violations. However, when they perceive rights violations, African American and Asian American students are no more likely than whites to take formal legal action and Latino/a students are less likely than whites to take formal legal action. We draw on in-depth interviews with youth and adultswhich we interlace with our quantitative findingsto explore the interpretive dynamics underlying these survey findings, and we offer several theoretical and methodological implications of our work.
