RESUMO

It is important to implement supportive programs to ensure mothers breast feed for the desired period, and infants are fed by only mother's milk. In the research, it was aimed at evaluating the effects of lactation management model on mothers' breastfeeding process following a caesarean section. Women who gave birth by planned cesarean delivery were divided into two groups, randomized control and experimental. Data collection was performed during gestation, first day after postpartum, pre-discharge, on the 9th day in a face to face interview, and in the form of monthly phone interviews up to 6 months. While the experimental group exercised the lactation management model, the control group received routine lactation practices in clinic. In the scores of Breastfeeding Charting System and Documentation Tool, a significant difference was found between the groups (p<0.001). 87.9% of the experimental group and 48.5% of the control group were determined to apply successful breast-feeding techniques. In addition, it was found that all of the experimental group breast fed 1 month longer than the control group, and for the first month, 90.9% of the experimental group and 78.8% of the control group breast fed with mother's milk only and a higher breastfeeding. Among in the experimental group, it was found that breastfeeding self-efficacy was higher, and breastfeeding techniques were accurate and successful and breastfeeding only and continuity rates were higher while breastfeeding related breast problems developed less frequently. RESUMO

Understanding mothers with problems regarding support is important for planning care, directing interventions, and ensuring the continuity of breastfeeding. This is a qualitative analytic study. Data were collected by using questions about socio-demographic characteristics and semi-structured interview questions. The research sample consisted of 15 mothers who met the participation criteria and volunteered to participate. Most of the mothers stated that they want to be supported when they need it, they want positive support, they do not want to be compared with other mothers and they care about professional support. Social support given without ignoring the feelings and expectations of the woman during the breastfeeding process will positively affect the process.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study was undertaken to assess the effect of repeated video-training sessions on the adequacy of metered-dose inhaler (MDI) among individuals with COPD. BACKGROUND: MDI devices facilitate the use of inhalation drugs in COPD patients and have become ever more important over the years. However, this device requires a certain level of hand-to-mouth coordination and cognitive ability. Since it has a high risk of application errors, training in its use is important to treatment success. DESIGN: Randomised controlled trial. METHODS: This study was carried out from 1 February to 1 July 2017 with the participation of 40 COPD patients. The data were collected using a 'Patient Information Request Form' and an 'MDI Skill Evaluation Form'. CONSORT checklist was used to report the current study. RESULTS: It was found that there was no significant difference between the experimental and control groups in terms of the mean scores of the 1st measurement (p > .05), though the mean scores of the 5th measurement were significantly higher in the experimental group (p < .001). In the 5th measurement, it was identified that the control group had 'moderate' adequacy (3.20 ± 1.6), while the experimental group had 'satisfactory' adequacy (8.70 ± 1.17), indicating that the patients in the experimental group made fewer mistakes and showed improved adequacy. CONCLUSION: It was found that repeated video-training sessions materially improved MDI skills. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE: Supporting the training on inhaler drug therapy with visual technological tools and regular checking of drug use will contribute to COPD management.
