RESUMO

ABSTRACT: Menopause signifies permanent cessation of ovarian function and the end of a woman's reproductive potential. Menopausal transition plays a major role in many symptoms common in middle age and may contribute to chronic conditions and disorders of aging. An evidence-based plan of care improves outcomes, enhancing quality of life.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Now, more than ever, enhancement of diversity and inclusion is significant to the nursing profession. One way that nursing institutions can enrich diversity in the workforce is through enrollment of students from diverse backgrounds. PURPOSE: The overarching goal of this innovative admissions revision project was to implement and assess the process of holistic admissions in a BSN to DNP family nurse practitioner track. METHODS: Using a step-by-step approach, the authors in this paper present five key steps to implementing a holistic review of doctoral nursing applicants. These five steps are: (1) assessing fit of admissions criteria, (2) utilizing shared governance, (3) measuring admissions criteria, (4) analyzing reliability, and (5) evaluating revision outcomes. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The step-by-step approach to holistic admissions discussed in this paper was feasible and cost effective. The scoring tool developed for applicant videos demonstrated very good to excellent reliability among raters in two different scoring scenarios. Diversity enhancement among enrolled students was noted in gender, race, and ethnicity after a holistic review was implemented. IMPLICATIONS: Findings from this innovative admissions revision have implications for nursing education, advanced nursing practice, organizational policy, workforce diversity, and student/patient outcomes.

RESUMO

ABSTRACT: Recommendations for social distancing and avoidance of mass gatherings during the COVID-19 pandemic have correlated with increased depressive symptoms in some individuals, such as loss of interest in daily activities, sleeplessness, or sadness. Perinatal depression screening using established, validated tools can aid with early diagnosis, guide management strategies, and optimize outcomes for pregnant women and their families. Identifying at-risk patients early in pregnancy and implementing a plan of care with appropriate mental health resources such as counseling or therapy have been shown to decrease clinical depression by more than 40%.

RESUMO

Mixed-methods quality improvement project improved the new obstetrical perinatal education curriculum by cultivating reliable delivery of evidenced-based initiatives linked to successful pregnancy. The web-based format enhanced family-centered care in a teaching format in the comfort of the home. The identification of at-risk populations resulted in improved referral for cell-free fetal DNA screening. A qualitative approach assessed overall provider satisfaction with web-based teaching. The patient survey identified barriers for noncompletion of web-based content. Quantitative data identified completion rate, high-risk populations for referral for advanced screening, and provider satisfaction with web-based curriculum content in a teaching platform linked to the provider's website.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Small bowel or multivisceral transplant is a relatively new treatment for irreversible intestinal damage, and no published practice guidelines exist. The purpose of this article is to report evidence regarding the best plan of care to achieve adequate nutrition and appropriate development for children. DESIGN AND METHODS: An integrative review was conducted with 54 articles related to management of this transplant population. A nine-member nursing team integrated the findings. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS: This resulting guideline represents the best research and best practices on which to base staff education and competency validations to manage this medically fragile patient population.
