RESUMO

Objective: Impacted canines are one of the significant challenges in orthodontics that should be appropriately assessed to provide the best treatment to the patients. Materials and Methods: In the present study, 57800 patients were examined over six years to investigate the prevalence, diagnostic procedures, and treatment methodologies for impacted canine cases. Prevalence and diagnosis were tested using history taking, clinical examination, and three-dimensional cone-beam radiographs. The cases were tested for impaction site, gender, age, signs, and symptoms. The groups were classified for impaction location according to Mupparapu's classification. Result: The causative factors and the treatment methodology selected were plotted according to age and gender distribution. The total prevalence was 3.9% of canine impaction cases in relation to the total sample cases. The results showed a strong correlation between the site of impaction toward the upper arch and with distribution following Mupparapu's classification. The pain was the most detectable complication in all age groups, while root resorption was the least. Conclusion: Most of the younger age groups were sent for exposure and orthodontic traction, while the mid-aged groups elected for observation, and follow-up as their primary concern was esthetics. However, the adult patients were into exposure and traction to improve their function.

Introduction In forensic literature, estimating an individual's age has garnered a lot of attention. With increasing age, the size of the dental pulp cavity shrinks as a result of secondary dentin deposits. This could be used as a measure of age. Aside from morphological approaches, radiological approaches might be used to analyze this regression shift. Kvaal's method calculates the chronological age of individuals based on the age-pulp size relationship on periapical dental radiographs. Purpose This study aims to use Kvaal's method to estimate the chronological age of patients using digital panoramic radiographs and verify the validity of regression equations proposed by Kvaal et al. in the Saudi population. Material and methods A total of 74 digital orthopantomograms were randomly selected from Qassim University Dental Clinic in Saudi Arabia, ranging in age from 18 to 64 years (mean age 32 years). The radiographs were taken between 2018 and 2021 according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results When the Kvaal technique was applied to Saudi members, there was no statistically significant discrepancy between the estimated and chronological ages. The coefficient of determination R2 was highest when three mandibular teeth were evaluated together (0.752). Conclusion The most accurate indicator for age assessment was "M" (mean worth, all things considered) and "W L" (contrast among "Width" and "Length").

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: Discomfort associated with the use of fixed orthodontic appliances may have a negative influence on the patient's oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL). In general, OHRQoL assessments have the potential to provide information on the need to improve the overall quality of care. This study aims to assess the impact of fixed orthodontic appliances on OHRQoL of Saudi population and to explore the impact of the patient's gender and age on perceived treatment. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: This cross-sectional study used a generic measure of OHRQoL the Arabic version of the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14), which is a responsive measure to changes in oral health conditions. Data were collected using self-completed e-questionnaire which was distributed through social media and were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21.0. RESULTS: A total of 149 subjects, 110 (73.8%) were females and 39 (26.2%) were males. Adolescents between 13 and 20 years were 63 (42.3%) and adults between 21 and 30 years were 86 (75.7%). A response rate of 100% was obtained. The prevalence of oral health impacts according to OHP-14 was 22.5%. OHIP-14 consists of 14 items covering seven domains. A three-dimensional structure was used to test the existence of separate dimensions: functional limitation, pain discomfort, and psychosocial impact. A significant difference was found between males and females in the first dimension (P = 0.038) and the third dimension (P = 0.022). In addition, a significant difference was also found between the two age groups included in the study within the third dimension (P = 0.025). CONCLUSION: Fixed orthodontic appliances had an evident impact on OHRQoL. However, males had significantly altered functional limitations while females had a higher psychological impact. Furthermore, adults had a significantly higher psychological impact than adolescents.

BACKGROUND: Using of sealant on pits and fissures is likely one of the most generally well-known strategies by the new cavity-prevention systems. AIM: The purpose of this research is to measure the retentiveness of sealants of resin-modified ionomer glass cement (GIC) and resin pits and fissures, on the first permanent molars of special patients as a part of caries prevention program in schools. METHODS: The sample was comprised by 60 molars. Resin-based sealants on one side and glass-ionomer sealant on the contralateral side of the mouth. The molars were examined in three and six months after application for retention with three standards: TR: Totally Retained; PR: Partially Retained; and CL: Completely Lost. RESULTS: by the end of the study 60% of resin sealant was present. While 55% of GIC were retentive after 6 months. CONCLUSION: Resin sealants are more retentive than glass ionomer sealants in school-based carries prevention program.
