RESUMO
This paper presents the MIMOSA architecture and development platform to create Ambient Intelligence applications. MIMOSA achieves this objective by developing a personal mobile-device centric architecture and open technology platform where microsystem technology is the key enabling technology for their realization due to its low-cost, low power consumption, and small size. This paper focuses the demonstration activities carried out in the field of health care. MIMOSA project is a European level initiative involving 15 enterprises and research institutions and universities.

Alternative methods for prevention and treatment of dental caries are presented, based on the use of laser and magnetic laser exposure (patent No. 2053818, in Russia) with a new generation laser device with Optodan microprocessor monitoring (patent No. 2014107, Russia). The methods are intended for wide clinical application in children and adolescents in pedodontic departments and outpatient centers and particularly for group and individual use in dental rooms at school.

A method of laser prevention of periodontal complications in patients with whole-cast and cermet dentures is described. Optodan automated laser physiotherapeutic device made in Russia was employed. Exposure was performed at a wavelength 0.85 mm, power 4 W, and frequency 0.8-2 kHz. The prevention was effective in 97% patients.

Automated computer system for differential diagnosis and defining the indications for pathogenetic therapy is described, which was used in 2816 patients and was effective in 97% of cases. The system includes computer-regulated Lancet surgical lasers (wavelength 10.6 microns, power 60 W, frequency 0.05-1.0 Hz) and Optodan physiotherapeutic laser (wavelength 0.85 micron, power 4 W, frequency 0.08-3 kHz).

In experimental local staphylococcal infection in white mice, previously immunized with staphylococcal toxoid and the combined preparation (staphylococcal toxoid + protective somatic staphylococcal antigen), the advantage of the latter in protecting the animals against infection with Staphylococcus aureus belonging to different phage groups has been revealed. Immunization with the combined preparation, carried out in 2 injections, has been found to stimulate antimicrobial immunity, simultaneously with antitoxic one, which indicates the expediency of the further study of the combined preparation.

Sensitivity of 575 NAG-vibrio strains isolated from various substrates in 1978-1980 to 14 antibiotics was studied and compared with the results of an analogous study performed in 1968 by Z. V. Ermolyeva et al. It was shown that sensitivity of NAG-vibrio to chloramphenicol, ampicillin, cephaloridine and streptomycin decreased. However, NAG-vibrio remain to be sensitive to tetracycline, chloramphenicol and gentamicin. Resistance of the majority of the strains to ampicillin, carbenicillin, cephaloridine and polymyxin M was noted.

Antibiotic sensitivity and other biological properties of Aeromonas and NAD-vibrios isolated from water of open waterbodies were studied comparatively. It was found that the organisms of these genera had a definite similarity with respect to antibiotic sensitivity, morphological, cultural and some antigenic properties. The differences in the antibiotic sensitivity of these organisms were not sufficient for definition of the taxonomic features.

A study was made of the pathogenic properties of NAG-vibrios on various experimental animals (917 guinea pigs, 609 nursling rabbits, and 203 rabbits aged from 20 to 24 days). The results obtained were compared with the reference to definite serological groups. Pathogenic NAG vibrios proved to be encountered in all the serological groups studied. The presence of pathogenic NAG-vibrios was mostly noted among the cultures belonging to the 2nd, 5th, 8th and 18th serological groups. The majority of serological groups isolated from man were also revealed among the cultures obtained from water.
