RESUMO

A successful childhood is to be striven after particularly for a handicapped child. Habilitation and rehabilitation, only carefully adapted to one another referring to medical specialties in colaboration with the family, may rise to the demand of the individuality of every one handicapped child. On prior conditions children with chiefly physical handicaps may be integrated into the polytechnical secondary school providing general education in the home town. The total-body examination of these children remains to be the basis for all paediatric actions.

RESUMO

Agyria is an extremely rare malformation of the brain caused by an arrest of neuronal migration towards the cortex. A case of nearly complete agyria is presented in a 2 8/12 year-old boy. The autopsy revealed complete absence of cerebral convolutions in the frontal, parietal and occipital lobes of both hemispheres and discrete convolutions in the temporal lobes. The cortex reached up to 22 mm and the central white matter was very thin, occipitally up to 2 mm. Additionally, hydrocephalus internus was observed. Clinical and pathoanatomical findings are presented and compared with other data published in the literature. The results are discussed in relation to a possible pathogenetic mechanism leading to this cerebral malformation.

RESUMO

Some children with cerebral palsy attend the ten-form general polytechnical school. To this end, several prerequisites have to be fulfilled and other essential arrangements to be developed in cooperation with specially trained teachers. The learning conditions have to be fitted to the improving abilities of children during the educational process. Factors of influence and cooperation modes are discussed.

RESUMO

Neuropediatric follow-up studies during 18 months of preterm born babies with birth weight below 1600 g show a normal development in 70%. Better perinatological and neuropediatric long-term care are taken as causes of the improved developmental prognosis of children at risk in recent years.

RESUMO

A decisive condition for advancement at an early stage is the detection of physical damage. In this connection the GDR Ministry of Public Health has published guidelines for the establishment of special groups for infants suffering from physical damage, at ordinary creches (Verfügungen und Mitteilungen 15/1976). In 1976/77 a total of eight special groups with 64 children were set up at creches in the city of Erfurt. The criteria for assigning children to such groups were age and the type/degree of damage, with the aim of having homogeneous group structures. Advancement was through an all-day teaching process, in which parents were involved by giving them guidance, inviting them for discussion evenings and calling on their homes. A description is given of the approach to teaching and methods and planning (written timetables for specific months, weeks and days), all of which are essential in creating adequate educational conditions taking into account individual differences in the level of performance and the prevailing primary damage (e.g. disablement, impaired hearing, marked milieu damage).

RESUMO

Based on the development of systematic investigations into child growth in the GDR, the importance of normal values of exact anthropometric parameters, which have to be checked every 10 years, is to be emphasized. For this reason, 1500 patients of the Pediatric Clinic of the Erfurt Medical School in the age between 1 and 3,5 years, were anthropometrically measured applying the slightly modified definitions by Martin-Saller 1959. Body length, trunk length, width of shoulders and pelvis as well as 10 limb measures and 7 skull measures were taken.

RESUMO

Mean values and standard deviations found in a population of 1500 children in the age between 1 and 3,5 years of 21 anthropometric parameters are given. They are statistically different and can be used as normal values. The growth of boys and girls is shown to be steady with age, in particular, as for as length and width measures are concerned. There are some significant sex differences. The practical use of the results is tested at present.
